He is crazy for food, and become restless at exact time of his food time. Now he is 4 months old and all his initial 3 vaccinations has been done. He weighs 17 Kgs now and is healthy. He becomes hyper active when he sees or meets children. I have to keep a close watch and a tight hold on his leash whenever he is around children.
You don’t expect a child to act all grown up, eating only what they’re supposed to, playing with only their toys, staying exactly where you ask them to and listening intently to your every word doing exactly as they’re told.
Mental Stimulation: Just like sending a kid to school, training helps your Lab get much-needed mental mojo. Without it, you may notice the destructive signs of boredom. However, with daily training, they will get mental stimulation so they don’t feel the need to rearrange your furniture or redecorate your house with pillow feathers.
Some say it’s a dog’s willingness to ‘obey’ their handler. However, as I prefer the idea of working with our dogs as a team, I try to avoid using the word ‘obey’. However, that’s really the end result.
It has been one week and I have seen such an improvement in both Max and Bella! They are listening better and Max seems more relaxed with Bella, knowing that both Chris and I will make sure she doesn’t get too puppy playful. We are looking forward to continued success with Dick’s direction.

Luckily for Matt, he comes from a family of sled dog racers. Using this experience, he decides he will teach his classmates the fine art of mushing huskies and malamutes. One especially kind boy called Tubbs who joins up with Matt is practically his polar opposite. Even so, they learn the importance of teamwork; of working with huskies and malamutes; of figuring out solutions to problems and how their efforts apply in mathematics.
Learning how to train your dog will improve your life and hers, enhance the bond between you, and ensure her safety-and it can be a lot of fun. Our Puppy Class is for pups 9 weeks through 5 months old. The puppy owner learns how to use positive methods to teach the puppy good manners and to build a bond of love and respect. The pup is socialized with other puppies and people and taught exercises to help them gain confidence when meeting new situations and objects. The puppy will learn to come when called, sit, lie down, stand, and not pull on the leash while walking. They are also taught to settle down, be touched and be examined by both the owner and a stranger. The instructor leads discussions on Jumping Up, Home Training Problems, Nutrition, Grooming, Crate Training, Spay/Neutering and other subjects to help the puppy’s family become responsible pet owners. Puppies are also taught the meaning of “Off”, to remove themselves from furniture, etc. Instructions for teaching some tricks (roll over, etc.) are included to give the puppy and handler additional “training fun” and to let the dog “show off”. A Training Handbook is issued to each student.

Wow, where to begin? Bull’s Eye (Jack Russell Terrier) kept us on a constant watch for escapes! Anytime the door was cracked open he would be on the loose and we would spend hours chasing him down or waiting for a phone call that someone had him. He pulled us around when we took him on the leash, barked non stop at other dogs, birds, squirrels, children etc. Basically, he trained us to move our lives around to suit him. But Sit Means Sit and JB gave me the dog of my dreams!! I can’t say enough about Sit Means Sit training and JB. I am a single mom and was concerned about spending the money on Bulls Eye but I knew I had to do it or we were going to loose him one day. So I did it. It was the BEST MONEY I have ever spent in my lifetime!!! His personality has not changed at all, he is still the wonderful, loving dog he has always been, but now he is obedient and a delight to take outside and other places. My neighbors are thrilled and constantly commenting on what a change they see in Bulls Eye. He is so much happier as am I. I am eternally grateful for Tom, JB and Sit Means Sit!! Sign us up for more training!!

If you are going to teach your dog to recall away from children, you will need to ‘rope in’ some children to help you. If you are going to teach your dog to walk to heel past other dogs, again you will need to get help from a friend or friends with other dogs.
Biting during play is often due to over excitement. Try and control the play so he doesn’t become over excited. One way to do this is to play for 15 second bursts, where you set down toys and don’t interact again until the puppy is sitting attentively. This short ‘time out’ sessions stop him getting too revved up. Plus, if he does nip, stop the game immediately and leave the room. This sends out the message that if he bites, the game ends.

Take safety precautions if your puppy bites. If you’re starting a training program with the help of a qualified trainer, consider muzzling your puppy with a basket muzzle. Your puppy will quickly learn to stop nipping or biting with the help of the muzzle, but muzzling is not recommended if you don’t have a clear understanding of the training approach and goals. If the muzzle isn’t introduced and used properly, your puppy can actually become more dangerous to people, especially those trying to put the muzzle on the puppy.

As a retired teacher and school librarian, I love this book. It has good and easy rhyming schemes for the young reader, a challenged reader, and anyone. I have used it many times before. One of my grandchildren is 3 years old and is usually not as interested in books as his older brother, but “Cool Dog, School Dog” was a hit for the 3 year old. Thank You.
I met RD after adopting my 11 month old pitty from the shelter. He didn’t have any manners to speak of yet. Within the first few nights of having him home, I realized I didn’t know much about being a dog mom and needed help. My dog couldn’t walk on a leash, lunged and barked at dogs, wasn’t potty trained…it was exhausting. We began working together every week and within the first few minutes of our first meeting I had several new skills I was able to use to help my dog learn. After the first meeting, I walked with him and he was responsive to my commands. She answered all of my desperate texts about anything that came up. Her energy is incredible. Her confidence is mesmerizing. Watching her hold a conversation while simultaneously and without effort correcting multiple dogs is inspiring. I continue to work with her after 4 months because it gives me confidence to continue training my dog. He is becoming a sweet, well behaved, wonderful boy. I board him with her, he goes to daycare with her and we join her monthly pack walks, all of which reinforce his good behavior.

Any retrieving dog is bred to put everything possible it can in their mouth. And they love picking up rocks. Each time you catch your dog with a rock in its mouth, you can teach it “Drop”, which will come in handy with a multitude of things later. Also, don’t worry to much about him getting sick. Unless it’s a giant rock, or something toxic, dogs bellys are really acidic and can break down pretty much anything. And if they don’t you’re more than likely to just see it in their poop.

Formal dog training has traditionally been delayed until 6 months of age. Actually, this juvenile stage is a very poor time to start. The dog is learning from every experience and delaying training means missed opportunities for the dog to learn how you would like him to behave. During the juvenile stage, the dog is beginning to solidify adult behavioral patterns and progresses through fear periods. Behaviors learned in puppyhood may need to be changed. In addition, anything that has already been learned or trained incorrectly will need to be undone and re-taught. Puppies are capable of learning much from an early age.
I have a 3 month old Black lab. When we try to put a leash on him he just wants to bite it, and hold it in his mouth. Is he too young for leash training? We have a couple of acres and he has not been on a leash before. Any tips?
