Unfortunately, in spite of good intentions, many times the dog will suffer and the owner will lose out on a first class relationship with their dog. Why? Because the owner didn’t take the time to learn how and why the Ohio State K-9 College is superior to other schools.

I used to work from home, so even though my wife was in office, I used to take my dog out for a walk once every 3 hrs and never tied it nor locked it in. Fortunately my puppy got very well potty trained, also is good with strangers and new family members, even kids.

The Instructors will set up unique courses each week for teams to run and work on all four elements (weather permitted for exteriors and vehicles) at all levels.  The class will concentrate on the introduction of distraction odors, blank rooms, detailing, advanced handling techniques, and extended searches.  The class is run seminar style where all dogs are crated when it is not their turn to work so owners will need to bring their dogs crate.

Sit Means Sit was a godsend for us. We have four big rescue dogs – 55 to 80 lbs, all mixed breeds, and all 6 years old or younger. Overall, they have always been pretty good dogs, but we’d allowed them to develop some unpleasant habits – bolting out the doors and gates, crazy barking at roaming dogs and visitors, jumping up to greet people, not coming when called, and Rani had a bite problem, guarding food, toys, her bed, and her crate. Within the first visit, we were able to keep all 4 dogs seated calmly on the rug in the entranceway, waiting for permission to exit. I was able for the first time to reach into Rani’s bed and crate and take things from her without having to worry about getting nipped. That alone was a miracle in my book. On the second lesson, we were able to take all 4 dogs off-leash out in the unfenced front yard for the first time ever. Over time, we’ve learned how to use the Sit Means Sit system to teach the dogs just about any command we want, and have them obey! We tell people the collars and remotes are ‘hearing aids,’ which is exactly what they are for us. The thing to remember about Sit Means Sit — it’s a tool to allow responsible, involved and patient owners to better communicate with their dogs. It’s up to me and my husband to work the system and use the skills and tools that Sit Means Sit provided us. The greatest gift Sit Means Sit gave me was the confidence to work with the dogs. I know they’ll listen now, I just have to teach them what the words mean and what ‘right’ looks like.

This can help keep your dog safe when his curiosity gets the better of him, like if he smells something intriguing but possibly dangerous on the ground! The goal is to teach your pup that he gets something even better for ignoring the other item.

RD is one of the most amazing animal trainers I have ever met, when she walks in the front door my two cats and http://rentabilisermapassion.org/french/lart-de-la-tarification-comment-trouver-les-benefices-caches-pour-faire-croitre-votre-entreprise-anik-singal-linkedin/ act like they are hypnotized. Rewarding the puppy by giving it a treat after wearing the muzzle can help the dog associate the muzzle with something good. This makes it less likely to be wary of you or aggressive, and it makes the whole process easier for both you and the dog.

At the end of class we will again ask that you keep your distance from other owners and dogs. We will guide you out of the class one at a time, please remember to keep your distance from the other students as you are leaving the building and returning to your cars.

“The best decision I could have made for my new career. Within weeks of graduation I was offered a management position at a local dog day care. I also just accepted an internship at a well known dog shelter. I am part of the behavioral team, doing assessments and training for the shelter dogs. These opportunities have endless possibilities. I am looking forward to welcoming new clients soon.” – Jenny H., Master Class Graduate

“When our latest rescue started to nip people, we decided to give Rachel a try before making him a dog that would have to be in a crate when people visited. Unbelievable–one two hour session later, the transformation was amazing. Rachel is a true dog behaviorist–she understands why dogs do what they do and, most importantly, how to change that behavior.”

Your puppy needs to be taught what he can and cannot do. Some harmless behaviors can be ignored, but potentially dangerous ones need to be handled immediately by interrupting the behavior with a sharp “no” to get his attention — be sure to reward him when he stops and pays attention to you. Shouting or hitting will not help your puppy learn.

Summer comes and it is so hot we can’t do some of the outside activities with our dog that we usually do.  We don’t have our dog training classes during the summer months here due to the heat.  No one wants to be out in the heat, and certainly our dogs who wear fur…

We aim to teach you to understand how your dog communicates and learns in a fun, interactive environment.  We will support you in developing the skills needed to help them become happy, confident, well behaved canine citizens. We will achieve this through practical training and support for both you and your dog.

Of course, the puppy is going to make a heap of mistakes… only he won’t know he’s done wrong unless you tell him. However, harsh punishment is completely inappropriate. Instead, guide your puppy by saying “No!” in a firm voice, or “Uh-oh”, when he makes a mistake. This helps him understand that the decision he just made was not a good one. Then when he gets praise for doing the right thing, he learns to think through situations and select the appropriate action.

Many people look at a disobedient dog and only see the problem pup. They may act out in destructive behaviors. They may pull their owner down the street by their leash with the enthusiasm of a team of huskies pulling in the Iditarod. Somewhere along the line, there is a communication breakdown.

Since 1997, Canine Dimensions certified in-home dog trainers have been helping “out of control” dogs become polite and well mannered. We train your dog in your home, for fast results. We are recommended by veterinarians, animal shelters, breeders, rescues and by both of the nation’s top dog training associations – the Association of Professional Dog Trainers and the International Association of Canine Professionals.

At this meeting you will decide if you want to work with us, and we will decide if we are able to take on your dog. Partners is one of the few schools offering solutions to aggression cases, but due to insurance requirements and the safety of our staff, we must follow strict protocols. We require a minimum training period of 30 days, to allow our staff to bond with your dog, and establish a foundation of trust and understanding. Depending on the specific situation we may require regular visits, follow up training classes, private lessons and homework. In most cases dogs will be crate trained, and strict training routines established. As a motivational school we pride ourselves on being highly successful with these cases, but we need cooperation from owners to achieve that goal. If you are not prepared to put in the effort, or don’t agree with our methods, we would prefer not to take on the case. A great relationship between client and instructor is critical to success.

Please try to let your coach know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend a class. You will be provided with the training guide for the week you missed so that you can catch up at home. We are not able to offer replacement classes or refunds but will help you catch up in time for the following class. If you require help in understanding or practising the guide for the week you missed get in touch with your coach for advice.

The best result is a dog that is obedient, calm, trusting, and happy. The best method is one that results in an obedient, calm, trusting, and happy dog. Often, lack of competence, experience. and proven results is obscured in discussion about methods and the ‘latest science.’ You’ll hear phrases like “purely positive”, and “rewards based” and even “force free”. Don’t be misled. If the trainer is competent, he or she will be happy to prove it by showing you photos, videos and/or dogs they’ve trained – in real world situations and environments. A well trained dog shouldn’t need treats or gadgets to gain his attention and cooperation. In fact, he shouldn’t even need a leash. Just look at the calm, happy, obedient dogs in our photos and dog training videos. Contact us today and begin the awesome journey to a genuinely loving, respectful and cooperative relationship with your best buddy. See the results for yourself. If you’re looking for the best dog training and the best dog trainers in RI and throughout New England, you’ve come to the right place.

In order to keep your Lab happy, it is important to channel its stamina and high energy levels into lots of fun activities. So, you can come up with innovative ways for your Labrador to have fun. Labradors love to play and they’ll be more than willing to indulge in various activities including swimming. Yes! Labradors love water and teaching your Lab how to swim, can be an enjoyable experience for both, you and your pup.

It’s easy to reward good behavior if you focus on teaching your dog to do specific things you like. Dogs can learn an impressive array of obedience skills and entertaining tricks. Deciding what you’d like your dog to learn will depend on your interests and lifestyle. If you want your dog to behave politely, you can focus on skills like sit, down, wait at doors, leave it, come when called and stay. If you want to enhance your enjoyment of outings with your dog, you can train her to walk politely on leash, without pulling. If you have a high-energy dog and would like outlets for her exuberance, you can teach her how to play fetch, play tug-of-war or participate in dog sports, such as agility, rally obedience, freestyle and flyball. If you’d like to impress your friends or just spend some quality time with your dog, you can take her to clicker training or trick-training classes. The possibilities are endless! Please see the following articles to find out more about what you and your dog can learn to do together: Teaching Your Dog Not to Jump Up on People, Teaching Your Dog to Come When Called, Teaching Your Dog Not to Pull on Leash, Teaching Your Dog to Play Tug-of-War, and Teaching Your Dog to Play Fetch.

Admission is restricted to those who have satisfactorily completed a Beginner class and received recommendation from the Instructor to attend OR have approval of the Training Director. Dogs will remain in this class until they have received recommendation from the Intermediate Instructor to move on to the Competitive Class or Novice Rally.  Canine Good Citizen tests will be scheduled for the week following the last week of class for an additional fee of $10 for members and $20 for non-members.

On the other hand, a submissive dog will try to make himself appear small and act like a puppy. This is because an adult dog will “tell off” a puppy but not attack him. Submission will take the form of a sideways crouch near to the ground, his tail held low but wagging away. He may also try to lick the face of the dominant dog or human. He may even roll on his back.

I have been a fan/customer of Dog School for a few years now, and I was pleased when they started the walking service which really fits our needs.  I have had bad, bad experiences with other dog walkers in Center City in past years so I really was not trusting anyone other than http://rentabilisermapassion.org/french/commencer-la-petite-entreprise-rentable-les-strategies-developpent-de-nouvelles-affaires/ folks anyway.  This is a first rate operation that is based on the nature and needs of people and dogs alike.  They know what they are doing and they are very detail oriented, while at the same time relaxed and good humored in all their interactions with me.  So appreciate Dog School.

In-home dog training consists of weekly visits from a certified dog trainer. Our standards and practices are taken from different facilities and training academies across the country.  Those of which we’ve been able to work at and learn from, throughout the last 7 years.  Our philosophy is quite unique, as it is a collection all it’s own and a “library” that we use everyday.  With our extensive background in hands on training and professional study, we are not limited to one way of thinking or teaching.  Applied, are the methods and structured activities in a dog’s life that will benefit them most.

Basics are about Matt’s school assignment to start and keep books for his own business that per the book title, is a Sled Dog School. You’ll need to read for yourself how Matt and his parents, Matt and his classmates, Matt and his teachers make their ways through the narrative, but I can assure you the plot fascinated me and Terry Lynn Johnson brought everything to life as a reader would expect from an experienced author.

Labradors are made to obey. Simply saying, obedience to their owners is innate in every Labrador. You will notice that your Labs would always want to please you and follow your every command. In fact, training and exercise is a fun activity for a Labrador. You can play catch, swim in the water and train him to sit, stand, stay and roll over.

We loved seeing the educational training videos shot live, watching David work magic in a matter of moments with two of our shelter dogs. All positive training! Highly recommend as in 5 stars!Gisella M.

Puppies are exactly like children. They cannot take care of themselves and are naïve to the world around them. But they’re highly observant and will be studying your every move as they learn about our world.

The parents of our companion puppies are OFA certified for hips. Your new pup will be current on the following: Rabies, Distemper combo (including Leptospirosis), Lyme, Bordetella, Heartworm preventative, and flea/tick protection. Our companion dog training covers behavior and social skills with people and other dogs, crate training, and obedience. The obedience training covers all commands on and off-leash. “Rachel was very patient in explaining techniques. I was amazed to see my 3 year old Lab finally walk with a loose leash. I have wanted to have my dog walk without a prong collar. The voice command Rachel taught me worked. I have already recommended Rachel – my trainer put me at ease when I was anxious about this new experience!”

But in all seriousness, training isn’t a one and done thing, it’s an ongoing process. And growing up and during adolescence, dogs go through stages where they seem to forget everything, stages where they kick up against the rules to see what they can get away with, explore and do things they know they shouldn’t, basically all the things that you and I did (and most dogs and animals do) as a part of growing up.

Fantastic! I was referred to Training Tracks by my vet for aggression issues with my puppy. Jeff did in-home training sessions with our entire family to teach us how to minimize this behavior. He is e…

Practice everywhere, with everyone If you learn that two plus two equals four in a classroom, you’ll take that information with you wherever you go. Dogs, however, learn very specifically and don’t automatically apply their knowledge in different situations and places as well as people do. If you teach your dog to sit on cue in your kitchen, you’ll have a beautifully kitchen-trained dog. But she might not understand what you mean when you ask her to sit in other locations. If you want your dog to perform new skills everywhere, you’ll need to practice them in multiple places-your home, your yard, out on walks, at friends’ houses, at the park and anywhere else you take your dog.

Imagine your dog being calm, peaceful, happy, friendly and obedient – without treats or a prong collar or an e-collar. Imagine your dog walking peacefully next to or behind you as you walk down a crowded street with people, traffic, and even other dogs and animals passing by. No lunging, pulling or troublemaking. Imagine your dog lying peacefully by your side as you enjoy a meal at an outdoor cafe while strangers pass all around. Yes … your dog!

Our staff isn’t just there for your dog during the day—they’ll take them home at night too! With our in-home boarding, your pup will be treated like family while you’re away. And, they’ll go to daycare all day instead of being cooped up in a kennel.

We come to you providing an invaluable service from the comfort of your own home. Your dog’s own territory is a non-adrenalized environment where he or she can be relaxed and more receptive to learning, providing for faster and more effective results, with none of the stress, distractions and learning impairment typical of a group-training environment.

No! Don’t give up! At 10 months old he isn’t even yet a teenager and you wouldn’t give up on a 9 or 10 year old boy! I have an 11yo son: He still runs into things, eats the things I say he shouldn’t from the worktops and runs away from my side when we’re out and about too! haha.

Do you have a new puppy needing to learn the ways of the household and the community? We can help! Puppies bring so much joy…and have so many needs. Without proper training and structure, puppies may also create a sense of STRESS within the home environment. Puppies will quickly learn to behave certain ways. As humans we often end up teaching our pups less than desirable behaviors without even realizing it! Puppies will, at times, exhibit behaviors such as jumping, mouthing, pawing, chewing, playing too rough, even doing the opposite of what we ask them to do. Our certified, expert dog trainer and staff specialize in teaching the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary for good, healthy relationships between puppy and owners as well as other family members. Our skilled methods and techniques will allow your puppy to learn basic obedience including, but not limited to sit, down stay, place, come when called, leash skills, crate training, proper socialization, confidence, appropriate play, and generally speaking…good manners at home and in the community! Allow us to teach your puppy the foundational skills needed to be a wonderful pet and companion.

Some days we have conflicting schedules that would leave our little guy by himself for 4 or 5 hours. We knew we needed to find him a doggie day care that he could play at while we were busy. Miles does not do well in the crate, so we needed some place that didn’t do any “crate/quiet time”. After talking with some of the fur-mommies and fur-daddies at our local dog park about their recommendations, we were excited to give Dog School a try.

The Academy is dedicated to educating both people and canines. Our dog training programs include everything from housebreaking, etiquette, and behavior modification, through obedience training and protection training services.

It’s important to start your labrador puppy training as early as possible (it’s never too late to start though!). Your cute little lab puppy will quickly grow to be a big powerful and excitable dog, which will be hard to control without some basic obedience training.

Also, she looks to me as her main caregiver (literally follows me everywhere)… do you have any tips on ways I could introduce the puppies to her? I’m expecting she will have some initial feelings of resentment towards them and be territorial since she has been the only dog we have had, so I’d like to try aid this transition as best I can. Although in the end I feel like a lot of it will be them feeling each other out. Any other advice you could give on this situation would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!

Hey I have a 7 month old male lab retriever, I have tried and tried to teach him obedience but with no luck he just doesn’t do it. He is very energetic as would all puppies be, but he seems to me to have a lack of respect and basically just runs rings round me. Out walking he pulls, he runs after everything! Birds, leaves, people, dogs, any vehicle, heck even if the wind blows the grass he tries to catch it… He’s awful when someone passes, if he sees another dog he goes completely nuts and will stop at nothing to get to them.. To the point of knocking me down or biting for restraining him. I’ve tried averting his attention but that definitely doesn’t work… He knocks over the kids and pulls on their tops. He jumps up and he bits a lot, I thought this was mouthing but any time you put your hand out to pet him he tries to snap it. He has excited urination which has been a challenge to get over but we have managed that (sort of)…before we got him a read a tone of books and researched a lot on training but it’s just not worked… Is it me? I don’t believe harsh punishment works, plenty praise and plenty love and affection but when your bitten or nipped on the legs every time your back is to him, he tears into possessions and just runs a mockery I’m at my wits end! HELP!!!

There are many techniques available for managing biting because not all dogs or people respond to the same method. If you or other members of your family are in physical danger or fearful of the puppy, seek the help of an experienced Certified Dog Trainer or Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (a veterinary specialist) immediately.[12]The longer the behavior continues unchecked, the greater the chance of escalation and injury.

In order to be certified as a therapy dog or emotional support dog, animals need to receive an evaluation/written designation from a licensed health professional: social worker, physician, psychiatrist typically. As for service dogs, which are allowed to accompany their owners into most businesses and pet-restricted areas, they can receive training, certifications, and registrations from several organizations such as TDI and United States Service Dog Registry. These certifications are not required by the Americans with Disabilities Act, but may streamline the process of getting a dog access to typically off-limits areas. Service dogs and therapy dogs are not the same thing. The same dog might fall into both categories, but therapy and emotional support animals are not recognized under the ADA.

I really liked that on the first day they have you come early so that your dog can get used to the space and people in a one on one setting, rather than being overwhelmed by entering a space that is already full of dogs. They also gave us a call midday to tell us how Abbey was doing, which was very reassuring. The instagram updates are also a huge bonus for dog parents.

June and Colin were fabulous! Loads of information to absorb and utilize. I need to get busy! The initial presentation was easy to follow and well explained to me. I scheduled 4 additional meetings during my Naples stay. So thankful I called them!!

At first, I was hesitant about sending my rescue to a doggy day care, but I was able to weigh the pros and cons. Now, I am grateful for their services – I notice that as soon as Charlie is picked up and goes home… he is passed out! It shows how much energy he has spent with the caretakers and the other dogs at Dog School. Whenever we walk Charlie around the area and we are close to the dog school, he pulls/tugs us towards the dog school which shows how much he enjoys being there! Thanks again for watching over my Charlie!

So if the dog in question is sitting quietly next to his owner on the far side of a  field,   that would be a far less powerful distraction than the dog which is racing around chasing a frisby twenty yards away.

While your Labrador may have learned to sit beautifully in your kitchen,  when you try and show off his new skill in your neighbour’s kitchen or whilst waiting outside school for your kids to emerge,  your dog will probably stand there wagging his  tail and looking stupid.

With group classes, in-home private lessons, behavior modification programs for both dogs and cats, plus evening, daytime and weekend hours, it couldn’t be more convenient. All dogs can learn, and we take pride in making it an enjoyable experience for all involved.

Today there is no place for harsh punishments and losing temper. Fortunately, for the last few decades, canine psychology and behavior is being given more importance and based on such aspects, dog training is now about loads of patience and positive reinforcements. Kat Camplin, KPA CTP, uses the skills she has accumulated in her many years volunteering déclaration auto entrepreneur en ligne and training dogs—and through her experience at Karen Pryor Academy—in her California-based business, Romping Dogs.

For successful training, practice the following basic training steps with your puppy every day. Keep training sessions short. Your puppy will see everything as a game, so keep him stimulated by changing what he’s learning. Do each command for about five minutes and come back to it whenever you can.

“In the initial session of approximately 1 1/2 hours: a.Rachel educated us on the underlying causes of our dogs unwanted behavior (aggressive greeting of guests to our home, fighting to be first out the door, excessive barking and ignoring our calls to come); and b.worked with us and our dogs leaving us with clear direction and tools to address the issues. I personally have had success beyond expectation with the tools she provided my husband and I to direct the desired behavior of our Miniature Schnauzer adolescent dog and Yorkshire Terrier puppy. We and our dogs are appreciative for her attention. I recommend her services without reserve!”

Take the dog that lies down at a quiet word or signal from his owner, and remains there without moving, even when his owner walks out of sight or moves around, and even when children or dogs run past.

‘Look’ has the dog focus on your face, and is a great way of distracting him from situations where he might be fearful or run off. Hold a treat by the dog’s nose and then slowly raise the treat until it’s resting on the bridge of your nose. The pup will watch the treat and end up appearing to stare into your eyes. Say “Look”. Have him stare at the treat for 10 seconds and then give it to him. Slowly build up the amount of time he has to look before he gets the treat.

Some dogs trained this way can appear quite ‘cowed’  and nervous.  Nowadays this kind of treatment of dogs is not popular and the challenge method is beginning to fall into disrepute due to the harsh punishments that can be involved.

Matt and his family live off the grid with few modern day conveniences. His parents believe in Free Range kids. Matt gets a lot of taunting in school and has even been called Smoky because of his aroma of the family’s wood burning stove. Matt tends to learn by doing rather than book learning so math class is getting difficult for him. His teacher gives the class a chance to earn some extra math credit by starting a business and reporting the profit/loss to the class.

Mny thanks for the site. In India pups are always provided at 40 days as a standard. I wish i’d read your site earlier and followed your advice on taking our lab put at 8 weeks. He came to us at 40 days and is now going to turn 12 weeks tomorrow. We love him to death and is spoilt silly. He is the new baby in the family and asks for attention when he doesnt get it like when we have to leave him some time and go downstairs. He is super chatty and tries to communicate all the time. The problem though is he is a barky and neighbours arent taking well to all the noise. Am not sure if there is anything i can do about it. Please help.

Snow day today! Due to impending inclement weather conditions, all classes and appointments are cancelled for Saturday, Dec. 11, 2017. We will resume regular schedule on Monday. Be safe and keep yourselves and those furry family members nice and warm!

Use these training tasks as you integrate the puppy into your life. For example, ask your puppy to “sit” prior to receiving her food, “sit” before you let her in or out the door, and “sit” before you pet her. These are times when your puppy wants something and is more likely to comply. In this way, you are training your dog all the time, throughout the day and also establishing predictable rules and routines for interactions and helping the dog to learn who controls the resources. Training your puppy prior to getting each requested necessity, helps to prevent problems. Having your puppy sit before getting a food or treat prevents begging, while teaching your dog to sit before opening the door can prevent jumping up or running out the door. Be creative. The time you spend training your puppy now will pay off when you have an adult dog. To have a well-trained dog, you need to be committedto reinforcing the training tasks on nearly a daily basis for the first year of your puppy’s life. The more you teach and supervise your puppy, the less opportunity it will have to engage in improper behaviors. Dogs do not train themselves, when left to choose their behavior they will act like dogs.

In-home dog training consists of weekly visits from a certified dog trainer. Your dog trainer will assess your dog’s specific learning style, and compose a training program based off your needs.  At the end of each training session, you will receive clearly defined homework and each lesson builds off the prior lesson.

Moreover, training precision lining and long-distance handling require a great deal of repetition and some degree of punishment. The dog that excels at these skills tends to be hyperactive, with a high pain threshold, which is exactly the type of dog we are breeding today.

There is a normal, natural fear period that begins around 14 to 16 weeks. During this period, a puppy may become wary and suspicious of new people, species or experiences. This is a normal adaptive process. Watch your puppy closely for signs of fear (cowering, urinating, and refusal of food treats). Avoid pushing or overwhelming your puppy during this developmental stage.

With time, dogs have become an important part of human households, where they are seldom treated as working mates. Unlike people of the 18th century, dog owners of today consider their pets as one of their family members and go out of their way to provide the latter with the best of training, diet, grooming and care.

At our School for Dog Trainers, our staff of instructors are highly qualified and accomplished individuals that are truly one of a kind. Our instructors and staff come from a variety of experiences, including law enforcement, military, competition and academic backgrounds. Not only do we teach you every aspect of the dog training industry, you will be immersed into an atmosphere alongside our instructors that are training a variety of dogs every day.

There is no universal vaccination protocol for dogs because of differing opinion among veterinarians, and also because of the ways in which DIY vaccinations are marketed and distributed to pet owners. I work with RD in an animal rescue group, One Tail At A Time PDX.  She took in my foster pup who was having some issues, just out of a hoarding situation.  She was suppose to meet a potential adopter in a couple days and was have a hard time with initial dog meetings and being in her crate.  After RD had her for only 2 DAYS, she was like a different dog.  The change was incredible.  Her stress in those situations was gone.  She interacted with her potential dog sibling perfectly.  I believe that those days with RD set her up for a huge success.  That family took her in on the spot and have since finalized her adoption.  RD gave such great little tips that you don’t even realize could be affecting the pup in such a dramatic way.  I was so impressed and am so grateful she is involved in the same organization as me.  Rescue dogs AND more importantly rescue adopters will absolutely benefit from her assistance!  She sets everyone up for success.

Dog School are proud to present a seminar all about what is important when choosing a puppy, how best to prepare your family for the furry new arrival, what to expect in the first few months, how to strengthen the bond between your family and your pup, and how to make sure that your new four-legged companion has a happy and fulfilled life!

For example, dogs naturally jump on each other to show affection. However, if your 80-pound Labrador jumps up to give Grandma a kiss on the nose, you may be calling 911 and looking into hip-replacement surgery. It’s your job to teach your dog that in the human world, jumping up on others is considered bad form.

The puppy has the bladder he has, and you cannot influence that. What you can do is make it easy for him to be clean,  by taking him outside to his toilet area very early in the morning,  and even in the middle of the night ,  if that is what he needs.

2. He still bites (softly, but the teeth are sharp and can hurt at times) while playing or cuddling and I am worried, as, soon, we will be having our baby. My lab should not hurt the baby or get jealous. How to make him friendly and train him how to be around a baby.

RD is amazing! Seriously, best dog trainer I’ve ever worked with! And there has been a few. When my girlfriend told me she booked an appointment for our dog troubles I was skeptical, to say the least…. She arrived on time, she introduced herself and got immediately to work. I have a German Shepherd that has aggression issues and a few others. We put our dog in his kennel prior to her arrival. She asked us to exit the room so there were no extra energies (fear from us) present. Within five minutes our dog had silenced his disapproval of her presence in ‘his’ house and she invited us back into the room. To our amazement, our dog was out of his kennel, and leashed by her side. This was shocking! I never would’ve believed it if I wasn’t there as a witness. She diagnosed our dog, showed us how to work him past his issues and take control of our household again. Her rates are affordable, she’s incredibly intelligent and a downright cool person to work with. I highly, highly, highly recommend giving her a chance to earn your business! You won’t regret it. There are few things as fun and rewarding as having a dog in your life. Our goal is to ensure you have a healthy, lifelong bond with yours by providing you the knowledge, skills and ongoing support to create a happy, confident and well-mannered member of your family.

Many behavior problems can be prevented by providing “legal,” acceptable ways for your dog to express her natural impulses. There are some things that dogs just need to do. So rather than trying to get your dog to stop doing things like chewing, mouthing and roughhousing altogether, channel these urges in the right direction. Increased physical activity and mental enrichment are excellent complements to training. Please see our articles, Enriching Your Dog’s Life, Exercise for Dogs and How to Stuff a KONG® Toy, to learn more.

Our 2017-2018 School for Dog Trainers program schedule is published and our course dates are listed below.  Our dog trainer programs generally fill 6-8 months in advance and space is limited. View our 2017-2018 Program Catalog to view our calendars and for more information.

Each time you increase the level of the distraction involved in training any skill, you should temporarily increase the level of reward that the dog receives for obedience.   You will also need to ensure that the dog cannot reward himself for disobeying you.

Again, perfectly normal behavior and especially for a Lab, it’s just a stage we have to go through with puppies, they all explore the world with their mouths initially. All you can do is puppy proof your home as best you can, and supervise him and redirect his chewing onto suitable toys until he grows out of it.

We’ve only been to the South Street location…When I took Miles there for the first time, I first fell in love with the fact that it’s basically a huge open room, with a large window in the front. There was plenty of space and toys to keep my little guy busy for quite some time, as well as super sweet doggie friends for him to play with for hours and hours!

Matt is not big on books and unfortunately had a dearth of literary learning. He is a visual learner, a hands-on learner who works best by actually doing a task. Luckily he has a really good teacher who thinks of ways http://rentabilisermapassion.org/french/faire-de-largent-en-ligne-un-jour-100-idees-pour-demarrer-une-entreprise-rentable-en-afrique/ meet each student’s needs equitably. One such example of this is when Matt’s teacher assigns him to starting a business and keeping records of profit and loss. A satisfactory assignment will mean an extra math credit for gun-shy math Matt.

The first dog training session will take about 2-3 hours. Following the first session you will continue to build the right relationship between you and your dog by practicing for 10-15 minutes a day. This will reinforce your dog’s newly learned behavior.

Some trainers suggest playing tug-of-war with your puppy. The puppy learns that the game is fun, but is also controlled by you, the human at the other end of the toy. The fun will stop if the rules of the game aren’t honored, keeping everyone safe.[6][7]

It sounds like your wife and son are regarded differently by the dog. You need to figure out what it is that’s being done differently, and then correct this. For example, do your wife or son squeal when the dog mouths them (which makes them sound like squeaky toys and is very exciting to the Sprocker). Do you and the older son have deep voices and are firmer with the pup? Who walks the dog? Who feeds the dog? You need a root and branch review of the management of the dog so that everyone plays an equal part and is equally respected by the dog.

We offer one-week workshops that give you an incredible opportunity to train many different dogs all day, every day. We provide the dogs and the pro instructors, you provide the passion! These intensive programs teach you how to build or refine rock-solid skills as you practice professional techniques with a coach at your side. Workshops can be taken standalone or in combination with any full-length course for a total learning experience that is unmatched. When the Master Class is taken in combination with a hands-on Dog Trainer Workshop we call this the Platinum Package and there is a special discount for enrolling in both at the same time. Remember, workshops can also be taken by themselves as an amazing learning experience. Visit the dog trainer workshops page to learn more or call and ask us how you can add this experience to your total course package.

The puppy is getting overexcited. Immediately when the puppy starts to bite, stop putting the collar on and walk away. Let him calm down, then try again. You can also add a firm “No”, before you leave, which offers him the chance to calm down first. Leave plenty of time when going out, so you don’t feel pressured into giving in. Eventually, the puppy will learn the fastest way to get his collar on is to be good.

Also, please note that because of volume, we are unable to respond to individual comments, although we do watch them in order to learn what issues and questions are most common so that we can produce content that fulfills your needs. You are welcome to share your own dog tips and behavior solutions among yourselves, however. Thank you for reading our articles and sharing your thoughts with the pack!

Many people view crating a dog as cruel and it certainly can be if done incorrectly. But after effective crate training, the crate becomes a place they love, an incredibly useful tool for you to use for the management of your dog and a place they can use to get away from things when they wish.

Small pieces of food or a favored toy can be used to motivate your puppy to perform most tasks. Provided the reward is sufficiently appealing, the puppy can be prompted to give the desired response by showing the puppy the reward, giving a command, and moving the reward to get the desired response. For example, food held up over the puppy’s nose and moved slowly backwards should get a ‘sit’ response; food drawn down to the floor should get a ‘down’ response; food brought back up should get a ‘stand’ response; food held out at a distance should get a ‘come’ response; and food held at your thigh as you walk should get the puppy to ‘heel or ‘follow’. By pairing a command phrase or word with each action, and giving the reward for each appropriate response, the puppy should soon learn the meaning of each command.
