This is without doubt the best training course I’ve found online and I believe an invaluable tool for new owners to learn how to train their dog, being taught by a renowned professional at a fraction of the cost of hiring one yourself.
Hi I have a 4 month old lab who every time I put a leash on him he refuses to move. If he even sees me get the leash he runs to the nearest corner to evade me. I have had him for a month and no amount of praise or treats gets him to move. I am at my wits end. If I drop the leash he will pick it up and follow me but the minute I pick it up he sits down. And I thought I was the stubborn one. He will walk with me without the leash fine. But there are leash laws where I live. Any advice?
We are experienced dog trainers and have trained hundreds of dogs successfully in the Orlando area. Mike and Judy have owned dogs for their entire life. Mike began training dogs while he volunteered for a Golden Retriever Rescue in the early 1980’s when he acquired a very fearful and aggressive 9 month old golden retriever, Chelsea. Chelsea set Mike on a path of training his own dogs and eventually applied his skills to prepare other foster dogs for their forever homes. Judy manages The Orlando branch of Gold Coast Greyhound Adoptions, a non-profit greyhound adoption group. Under Judy’s leadership Gold Coast Greyhounds has fostered and placed over 2300 greyhounds since 2003. ” We discovered Bark Busters at just the right time. We had been answering dog behavioral questions for new adopters right from the start.” Experience, dedication and love for dogs made Bark Busters an obvious career choice.
This site was created and maintained as a place to network and share information about Therapy Dogs that work in schools. I am a school counselor at B.F.Kitchen Elementary, a small public school in Loveland, Colorado. I have been working with Copper, my registered Therapy Dog, in my school since October 2011. During that time, I’ve been able to document the positive impact of having Copper interact with students, staff and families. Working with a dog in school has numerous applications and reaches an extremely diverse group of students.
Dental disease is one of the most common medical conditions seen by veterinarians. Approximately two-thirds of cats over three years of age have some degree of dental disease. The most common problems are due to periodontal disease, gingivitis and cervical neck lesions, also called oral resorptive lesions.
Some dogs really love to eat food, and some when they see undigested food, they’ll eat it. It isn’t bad for them but just nobody wants to eat their poop, and with dogs as an exception. Don’t worry, he’ll live 🙂
Creating an environment for success is a key component for any training. Having a trainer in your home ensures the training really fits your dog’s personality as well as your goals. This is especially important with larger families, more difficult dogs or people with special training goals (agility, therapy dog, off-leash obedience).
My experience with Animal Assisted Therapy started in 2009 when I partnered with Colorado State University and HABIC (Human Animal Bond in Colorado) in a graduate level research project. We had one HABIC team work with a student. That student blossomed and I was convinced that I needed to learn more. I spent a significant portion of time on the internet and decided to adopt a dog that could potentially come to work at school. It was 18 months later that Copper first entered our building. I hope the information on this site shortens the entry time for other professionals interested in this modality and provides best practices to those of use who are breaking ground with our own programs.

My method of training Labrador Retrievers includes teaching specific words in specific ways so that your dog not only learns the words but also develops the respectful attitude that makes him happy to obey you. Teach your dog words and he will understand what you say. Teach those words in the right ways and he will actually DO what you say. [read more]
I toke and will remain to take my Cocker Spaniel. She twists and squirms around, like puppys do, but she is the love of my life. They toke excellent care, making sure she wasn’t too excited, gave her …an excellent bath, trimmed her perfectly, at other locations they didn’t have the patients to trim her face which in turn caused ear infections, at TEXAS ALLBREED grooming, they got everything trimmed and also saved those long eye lashes. I am so happy with the results!! See More

Many dog trainers are self-employed, or work for a small business, often owned by a head trainer. Sometimes other pet-related businesses hire dog trainers, such as vets, shelters, groomers, and pet stores. Sometimes trainers are hired by local city or county recreation departments, 4H clubs, or other community groups.

The most effective way to train your dog is to use modern, science based positive reinforcement. If you reward your dog for the behavior you want, your dog comes to understand what is expected. Reward based training is effective, humane , fast and fun! Another result of this type of training is that your dog trusts you and becomes a thinking, self-confident dog who learns to make good choices. The way you train your dog determines the relationship you have with your dog. By using the Home Dog Training Positively method, you will acquire both the knowledge and the skill to help your dog become a well behaved member of the family.
I have a 3 month old labrador puppy. When in the kitchen he pokes his nose whenever the fridge is opened. One day when I opened the fridge he jumped up and licked up a cake which was kept in the bottom row.
My little Yorkie, Mandy, was very difficult to handle. At almost 2 years old she barked incessantly at everything. When family or friends came over she was totally out of control. The best thing that ever happened to me was contacting Tom Mancuso and learning about the Sit Means Sit dog training method. After only one week she was greatly improved. After the 3rd week, unbelievable progress. I would recommend this method to any one with dog training problems.

Puppies may start to mouth people for reasons such as feeling excited. Some owners confuse this behaviour with their puppy ‘biting’ and dont know what to do to stop it. Our dog training experts show you the best way to stop this unwanted behaviour.
At first you are going to let the puppy see the food in your hand so that you will have her attention and can use it to guide her into position. As your puppy begins to comply more readily, you can start to hide the food in your hand, but give the command and repeat the motion or signal that she has learned to follow. Soon the puppy will come to expect the treat each time she performs the task. Then, signal and give the command, but when she performs the task, reward only with praise and give the puppy an affectionate pat. Next, you can begin to vary the frequency, giving praise with “good dog” and perhaps patting each time, but giving the food randomly, perhaps every 3 or 4 times. In time, the puppy should respond to either the hand signal or the command.

Most local dog trainers offer not only groups classes but also in home dog training for owners who don’t have time for a group class or have more behavioral training needs than a class may offer. However, cost of this type of training is obviously higher.
For successful training, practice the following basic training steps with your puppy every day. Keep training sessions short. Your puppy will see everything as a game, so keep him stimulated by changing what he’s learning. Do each command for about five minutes and come back to it whenever you can.
This means you should introduce him to as many new people and places as possible during his early months of life. Keep each new meeting and experience positive and upbeat. Doing this will reinforce your Lab’s natural tendency to be friendly and accepting of everyone.
A non-refundable Application Fee of $50.00 is required with your application, and upon acceptance, a refundable $500 tuition deposit is required to hold your spot in class. These fees will be applied to the full tuition cost. An additional $300.00 training equipment package is required.
