Lessons end with the trainer assigning customized homework based on your dog’s areas of concern. You’ll also be able to ask questions about anything and everything related to your dog. You can even contact your trainer after the session for no extra charge.
Sit Means Sit was a godsend for us. We have four big rescue dogs – 55 to 80 lbs, all mixed breeds, and all 6 years old or younger. Overall, they have always been pretty good dogs, but we’d allowed them to develop some unpleasant habits – bolting out the doors and gates, crazy barking at roaming dogs and visitors, jumping up to greet people, not coming when called, and Rani had a bite problem, guarding food, toys, her bed, and her crate. Within the first visit, we were able to keep all 4 dogs seated calmly on the rug in the entranceway, waiting for permission to exit. I was able for the first time to reach into Rani’s bed and crate and take things from her without having to worry about getting nipped. That alone was a miracle in my book. On the second lesson, we were able to take all 4 dogs off-leash out in the unfenced front yard for the first time ever. Over time, we’ve learned how to use the Sit Means Sit system to teach the dogs just about any command we want, and have them obey! We tell people the collars and remotes are ‘hearing aids,’ which is exactly what they are for us. The thing to remember about Sit Means Sit — it’s a tool to allow responsible, involved and patient owners to better communicate with their dogs. It’s up to me and my husband to work the system and use the skills and tools that Sit Means Sit provided us. The greatest gift Sit Means Sit gave me was the confidence to work with the dogs. I know they’ll listen now, I just have to teach them what the words mean and what ‘right’ looks like.
Zen Dog Training can help with: Excessive barking, begging, play biting, jumping-up, table surfing, destructive behaviors, chewing, digging and separation anxiety, demand behaviors, house training, puppy training.
I have rescued a 1 year old lab with NO training. She jumps, BAD, and she cannot walk on a leash and isn’t housetrained. Any suggestions? I love her personality and she has already adjusted to my children (except for the jumping)! Any suggestions on training an older puppy would be nice.
This is as prevalent in young, green dogs as breaking is in older hunting dogs. Both problems stem from a lack of obedience. If a dog is well trained to heel, sit, stay and come, he’ll do nearly anything you want. The problem lies in the definition of “well trained.”
The most effective way to ‘proof’ your dog’s training is to introduce each distraction in stages beginning with the least powerful level of any given distraction, and culminating in the most powerful level of that same distractions.
Training classes for young puppies are also an excellent way to socialize your new puppy to a variety of people, dogs, and other stimuli in a controlled environment. In addition, you will learn how to prevent problems before they can begin, or deal with them as they emerge, rather than having to find a way to correct problems that have already developed. Your puppy might also make some new friends of the same age. You could then visit these friends (or vice versa) with your puppy for social play and exercise sessions. Since the primary socialization period for dogs ends by 3 months of age, puppy socialization classes are most valuable for puppies 8 weeks of age and older. If all puppies in the class have had initial vaccinations, are healthy and parasite free, the health risks are low and the potential benefits are enormous. Discuss the location of classes in your area and when to start them with your veterinarian.

Dave met with my family and I to hold a demonstration which showed us how to get more control with our dog in 15 minutes than the other two trainers had showed us in months. Following the demonstration I attended lots of group classes and never looked at another system after that. More about me, I am 49 years young and have a beautiful wife, 3 awesome kids, one of who is currently attending The University Of Tennessee, The second one is attending Denver University and the third is completing his junior year in high school. We have 4 dogs and 6 Guinea pigs. That’s right; we have a zoo.
Tickets are FREE and places can be reserved through Eventbrite, or by contacting Dog School using the details below. Please book a place for each person attending so we have know numbers and can arrange seating.
Karen did an amazing job with Oreo, she gave clear easy instructions to follow. I was amazed to see Oreo not jumping up on people or barking when the doorbell rang. I am very pleased with session and will recommend Bark Busters to all my friends and family
Dog owners who take the time to train their dogs aren’t named as defendants in lawsuits because their dog bit someone. They aren’t paying medical bills of someone who crashed their car swerving to avoiding their dog in the street.

3. I was concerned about dogs beating the shit out of my dog..he’s a lover not a fighter! He just got bitch slapped by a 12 week old pug at the dog park..man she was sassy. Anyway, I was concerned because some dogs don’t like his smushed face/colorful bow ties and go after him. I haven’t found any nicks, scabs, or black eyes so that’s always a good sign!
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of animal trainers in the United States will grow by 15 percent between 2012 and 2020, faster than the average growth for all occupations. The BLS expects that demand for animal care services will grow over the next several years, and that job prospects will be good for animal care workers such as dog trainers.

I’m that kind of person who likes to be prepared. Before our new member of the family arrived I have read all smart books about how to train the dog. I thought I’m the dog whisperer! Easy right? But t…hen reality comes and I’m facing this four legs and tail with head full of information- and nothing turns out like i thought it would! I was lucky to meet RD- professional, loving what she’s doing and most of all patient (not only toward dogs but their owners too) dog trainer. Few hours together and I could see positive changes in my dog and me! There is still lots of work but we are getting there! See More

The foundation of Tarheel Canine’s Training System is an understanding of behavior and canine temperament which is explained in Tarheel Canine’s proprietary training manual and Jerry Bradshaw’s book, Controlled Aggression published by Lulu Press (http://www.lulu.com/content/2317473), both are provided to students with their equipment upon enrollment, as well as lectures which cover all key areas of training in the Tarheel Canine Training System. Through extensive practical work and application of the theory we then show the student when and where to apply the use of key training equipment. This includes using leashes, training collars, long lines, reward toys, modern electronic training collars (in both low level stimulation and the Tarheel System), application of BSD™ Behavior Shaping Devices for training detector dogs for narcotics and explosives detection, how to use various sleeves and grip training equipment including bite suits for sport, Personal Protection and Police K9 Training.

RD really understands dogs and their humans’ behavior. She’s so possitive and relaxed, gives amazing feedback and really helped me personally learn how to better communicate with my very large pitbull we adopted from the pound. My main challenge was keeping my dog calm on the leash and focused on me. I’ve had two sessions so far, and after the first one we experienced amazing improvement. So exciting! So grateful!
Usually if the dog is to live in a family unit, it’s best to start young as having even the smallest amount of control and manners in your puppy is important if you wish to take them places, meeting people.
Local community centers, dog daycare operations and some pet stores offer group classes that may range from $50 to $125 for four to eight weeks of one-hour sessions. Classes for puppies might cost less than those for adult dogs.

Is it good training, or is it just down to luck? Perhaps we first need to decide exactly what we mean when we talk about obedience or an obedient dog. Let’s start by defining what makes an obedient Labrador.
