After you decide on some new skills you’d like to teach your dog, you’ll be ready to start training. To maximize her learning potential and make sure you both enjoy the training experience, keep the following basic tips in mind:
Also, she looks to me as her main caregiver (literally follows me everywhere)… do you have any tips on ways I could introduce the puppies to her? I’m expecting she will have some initial feelings of resentment towards them and be territorial since she has been the only dog we have had, so I’d like to try aid this transition as best I can. Although in the end I feel like a lot of it will be them feeling each other out. Any other advice you could give on this situation would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!
Training curriculae is relative to the amount of work each dog requires, the level of instructor needed and the follow-up each client will need. All programs have a minimum training period, and require follow-up classes. In some cases, depending on the scenario, we may require private lessons in order to ensure the behaviors are addressed in home as well.
That’s why we now offer a walking service and overnight boarding. We want to be there for your dog (and you) 24/7, whatever and whenever your needs are. We’ve always felt like we were a second family to the dogs who come to school, and now we can be.
Your puppy will learn very quickly and respond to love and affection as well as rewards. Obedience training will help build a lasting bond between the two of you and you’ll be rewarded with a happy, well-trained dog.
Does the instructor seem to really like dogs, people, and teaching? Does she reward her students with praise and encourage them to do the same with their dogs? The last thing you and your dog need is someone who doesn’t enjoy teaching you.
It is up to us, (dog guardians) to take the time, and make the effort to spend quality time getting to know our dog companions through education, practice and patience. Knowledge, experience and developing a personal relationship with our dogs through training will build the trust that is needed for success. With a step-by-step approach, people can learn simple positive safe methods to communicate with their dogs in a way in which dogs understand.
Applebaum suggests attending obedience class every year or two — three years, at the most — and practicing school lessons at home. “It’s a positive activity, and a great way to bond with your dog,” he says.
Your dog lives with a family, in a home. This is where he misbehaves most often so this is where dog behavior training is most effective. Dogs learn by association. Bark Busters teaches your dog to listen in the home environment. If he does not listen at home, he will not listen outside your territory.
Little and often is best. You should hold formal training session for 10 – 15 minutes twice a day. However, training should not be limited to only during these times. Take the opportunities that arise during the day to enforce his learning. Examples include expecting the pup to sit before his meal or before his collar and leash are put on.
I give food twice- once in the morning and one at Lunch. Both time the Female very fast in eating and very eager and it is very excited when it see the food and try to grab from hand. Both understand the names.

Unfortunately, in spite of good intentions, many times the dog will suffer and the owner will lose out on a first class relationship with their dog. Why? Because the owner didn’t take the time to learn how and why the Ohio State K-9 College is superior to other schools.
“The best decision I could have made for my new career. Within weeks of graduation I was offered a management position at a local dog day care. I also just accepted an internship at a well known dog shelter. I am part of the behavioral team, doing assessments and training for the shelter dogs. These opportunities have endless possibilities. I am looking forward to welcoming new clients soon.” – Jenny H., Master Class Graduate

The owners are rad. They are young Philly entrepreneurs who are sincere about providing a positive environment for dogs whose parent(s) works. They get our domesticated dogs too, i.e. that they are pack animals that nevertheless need their belly’s rubbed.
They did not let my 13 month join as despite having the core vaccines, she does not have LEPTO 4 vaccine – my vet is perfectly happy with this. My last girl died 9 days after this vaccine so I was no…t letting my new girl have it. Dog School have refused us join advanced classes because she has not had LEPTO 4. Really upset 🙁 When my dog started puppy classes else where, they were perfectly happy that she hadn’t had this particular vaccine. See More
Founded in 1998, Dog School is Philadelphia’s oldest doggie daycare and we’ve been around this long for more than a few good reasons. More than anything though, what really sets us apart is how we care about your dog like they’re our own.
Our program is best described as intimate. Our student to instructor ratio is literally no more than 3 to 1. Everyone gets to work dogs, and nobody just watches. Training with the instructors is informal and interactive. Questions about method and alternatives are encouraged. Many other schools are large and impersonal, and the bulk of your time is spent only training your own dogs. In this business you will be training the dogs of strangers or dogs for police work that have no handler to bond to. You have to have the skills to extract behaviors from all different temperaments and breeds to be successful. Our students are successful in the Pet Training Industry as well as in the Police K9, working dog and sport worlds.
I bought this book– the kindle edition– for my kindergarden aged grandson. He is learning to read and the short, rhyming sentences are fun for him. It kept his attention all the way to the end. He loved the story and the pictures. His two year old sister sat and listened as we read it. At the end, she said “do school dog again, please!” That’s very rare for her .I just wish I’d bought the paper edition rather than have it on my tablet–It looks as though it will be a favorite for a very long time!

Cairng for dogs is more than long walks and the occasional brushing. Depending on the breed you have and its size there are a number of specific training and grooming steps you may need to take to provide special care. Different breeds require specific instructions as the response is not uniform from say a Poodle and a Terrier. Theres a lot to learn when teaching a canine basic commands but our range of how-to manuals and guides make teaching your buddy fun, rewarding and most of all successful. Whether you are in the market for a Beagle, Bloodhound, Shih Tzu or Great Dane we have everything youll need to properly raise and care for your dog.
Some trainers suggest playing tug-of-war with your puppy. The puppy learns that the game is fun, but is also controlled by you, the human at the other end of the toy. The fun will stop if the rules of the game aren’t honored, keeping everyone safe.

RD is amazing! Seriously, best dog trainer I’ve ever worked with! And there has been a few. When my girlfriend told me she booked an appointment for our dog troubles I was skeptical, to say the least…. She arrived on time, she introduced herself and got immediately to work. I have a German Shepherd that has aggression issues and a few others. We put our dog in his kennel prior to her arrival. She asked us to exit the room so there were no extra energies (fear from us) present. Within five minutes our dog had silenced his disapproval of her presence in ‘his’ house and she invited us back into the room. To our amazement, our dog was out of his kennel, and leashed by her side. This was shocking! I never would’ve believed it if I wasn’t there as a witness. She diagnosed our dog, showed us how to work him past his issues and take control of our household again. Her rates are affordable, she’s incredibly intelligent and a downright cool person to work with. I highly, highly, highly recommend giving her a chance to earn your business! You won’t regret it. Dogs have their own set of behavioral problems. Lack of discipline may badly affect your dog’s behavior and turn your beloved pet into a disobedient, aggressive or unruly dog. As a dog owner you should be aware of these problems and train your dog accordingly.
