I cannot say enough great things about Dog School. My husband and I have very hectic schedules and a very energetic dog so this place is a lifesaver. Before dog school, we didn’t think that our dog Abbey was capable of being tired out-even after multiple long trips to the dog park. We could not have been more wrong-Abbey is all smiles and can hardly stay awake when we get her home.

Some days we have conflicting schedules that would leave our little guy by himself for 4 or 5 hours. We knew we needed to find him a doggie day care that he could play at while we were busy. Miles does not do well in the crate, so we needed some place that didn’t do any “crate/quiet time”. After talking with some of the fur-mommies and fur-daddies at our local dog park about their recommendations, we were excited to give Dog School a try.

I just rescued my 9-11 week old black lab. My friend found her in a box with her litter and she was the last one. She barkes really loud when i try to confine her to a potty place but she wont go if shes confined. she hasnt had her shots yet and i dont want to take any chances with getting her sick. i have an app scheduled tomorrow but i would bennefit from some assistance for potty training because i rent a house and shes had so many accidents already.

“The best decision I could have made for my new career. Within weeks of graduation I was offered a management position at a local dog day care. I also just accepted an internship at a well known dog shelter. I am part of the behavioral team, doing assessments and training for the shelter dogs. These opportunities have endless possibilities. I am looking forward to welcoming new clients soon.” – Jenny H., Master Class Graduate

2. He still bites while playing or cuddling and I am worried, as, soon, we will be having our baby. My lab should not hurt the baby or get jealous. How to make him friendly and train him how to be around a baby.

No Labrador obedience training is complete and successful without positive reinforcements. These are the praises, kind words and treats you give your Labs if he does the right thing. While you teach your dog how to sit or stand, commend him with a good praise like “Good dog”, along with a tap on his head and a treat. This will encourage him to do more training and to do the right thing every time the same command is implemented.

If you have training concerns, don’t hesitate to look for a trainer. Though it can be costly, training helps you effectively communicate with your dog and build a solid relationship for the rest of his life.

Working with your dog to obeying your commands opens up a line of communication between you and your dog. Consistently communicate with your dog what you want it to do and reward it when he listens to you.

Remember that, early in training, your puppy does not know the meaning of the word. Therefore you could just as easily teach your puppy to sit with the word bananas (or sit in any other language) as you could with the word sit. The key is to associate the word, in this case “sit,” with the action of placing the hind end on the floor.

Every client faces unique challenges of dog ownership, and every dog faces challenges of being “owned”.  Paradigm Dog School will teach you to properly communicate, handle your dog in a positive way, teach basic and advanced obedience commands, and fix the toughest K9 behavior issues. You will learn creative ways to use the most up to date scientific based conditioning methods. You will learn how to achieve superior communication even in high stress and excitable situations. Opening the door for you to no longer rely on expensive treats, or equipment to misdirect, bribe or force your dog to perform or behave. Call today for a consult and start the path to the most successful relationship with your pet,

Some dogs trained this way can appear quite ‘cowed’  and nervous.  Nowadays this kind of treatment of dogs is not popular and the challenge method is beginning to fall into disrepute due to the harsh punishments that can be involved.

RD is AMAZING.  We adopted our Pitbull James Bond from a local rescue agency. He’s a sweet but sorta stubborn dog, and was pretty obnoxious on walks and when we have company over.  Since working with RD and having her train us on how to deal and understand James Bond, things have dramatically improved. I can’t recommend her enough.

Conversely, when you engage in the practice of immediately sending your pup on every fall, you are training him in self-reliance. When he’s launched on the splash, he knows exactly where that bird is and will quickly pick it up. After he’s found several hundred birds all by himself, it is going to become difficult to convince him that he needs help from you in the form of hand signals.

Actually, although an easy-going breed the Labrador can develop bad habits such as barking, chewing, or digging, just like any dog. The key to avoiding this is providing plenty of exercises and also mental stimulation. Luckily, obedience training can help you with both of these.

Zen Dog Training can help with: Excessive barking, begging, play biting, jumping-up, table surfing, destructive behaviors, chewing, digging and separation anxiety, demand behaviors, house training, puppy training.

The most common mistake people make is to stop reinforcing the behaviors they like.  It is easy to ignore the obedient dog, to forget to give him a tasty reward from time to time when he flies back to a toot on your whistle.

It sounds like your wife and son are regarded differently by the dog. You need to figure out what it is that’s being done differently, and then correct this. For example, do your wife or son squeal when the dog mouths them (which makes them sound like squeaky toys and is very exciting to the Sprocker). Do you and the older son have deep voices and are firmer with the pup? Who walks the dog? Who feeds the dog? You need a root and branch review of the management of the dog so that everyone plays an equal part and is equally respected by the dog.

There are many reasons why dogs display inappropriate behaviors. Understanding the source of the problems and making the appropriate changes is the key to turning them around. We address all contributing factors, showing you how to avoid and redirect unwanted behaviors such as:

Heart of Texas Dog Training offers in-home dog behavior training to the entire Dallas / Fort Worth area, including Uptown, Frisco, North Fort Worth, Keller, Mansfield, Burleson, and the mid-cities area.

Use real rewards Be sure to reward your dog with things she truly finds rewarding. Some dogs will happily work for dry kibble when training in your living room but ignore it if you’re training in the park. Because the park’s a more distracting environment, paying attention there is a harder job for your dog. Pay her accordingly by using a reward worth working for, like small pieces of chicken or cheese, or a chance to run off-leash at the dog park with her buddies. Also keep in mind that what your dog considers rewarding at any given time may change. If she’s just eaten a big meal, a scratch behind the ears or a game of tug might be most rewarding. If she hasn’t eaten in a while, she’ll probably work enthusiastically for tasty treats.

Sit Means Sit was a godsend for us. We have four big rescue dogs – 55 to 80 lbs, all mixed breeds, and all 6 years old or younger. Overall, they have always been pretty good dogs, but we’d allowed them to develop some unpleasant habits – bolting out the doors and gates, crazy barking at roaming dogs and visitors, jumping up to greet people, not coming when called, and Rani had a bite problem, guarding food, toys, her bed, and her crate. Within the first visit, we were able to keep all 4 dogs seated calmly on the rug in the entranceway, waiting for permission to exit. I was able for the first time to reach into Rani’s bed and crate and take things from her without having to worry about getting nipped. That alone was a miracle in my book. On the second lesson, we were able to take all 4 dogs off-leash out in the unfenced front yard for the first time ever. Over time, we’ve learned how to use the Sit Means Sit system to teach the dogs just about any command we want, and have them obey! We tell people the collars and remotes are ‘hearing aids,’ which is exactly what they are for us. The thing to remember about Sit Means Sit — it’s a tool to allow responsible, involved and patient owners to better communicate with their dogs. It’s up to me and my husband to work the system and use the skills and tools that Sit Means Sit provided us. The greatest gift Sit Means Sit gave me was the confidence to work with the dogs. I know they’ll listen now, I just have to teach them what the words mean and what ‘right’ looks like.

Play safely while you supervise training. Never play roughly with a puppy that bites. Rough play will only encourage this behavior and strongly establish it in the puppy’s mind. Never use your hands as toys. You should also closely watch children playing around or with the puppy. Kids are not equipped to train a puppy and injuries can happen.

I’ve had people respond to this question in several different ways.  There has been the enthusiastic crowd who is excited at the possibility of having a dog in the school.  There is the cautious group that is concerned about allergies, insurance and injuries.  The skeptics respond with a look that says, “You just want to bring your dog to school with you, don’t you?”  The fearful give you a pleading look and wide eyes.   There is a substantial amount of work and knowledge that needs to be in place before bringing a dog into a school. This website is dedicated to providing a foundation for professionals who want to start their own programs and a place for established programs to share best practices and the tried and true tools that support that work.

The dog is taught to ‘sit’ in fairly undemanding conditions  (a quiet back yard for example)  then taken into much more distracting and tempting conditions where his obedience is deliberately ‘challenged’.

Your dog might not be angry at all! Puppies like to play fight by nipping and jumping at one another. Sometimes, this behavior continues into adulthood. It’s possible that your dog considers children to be puppies. If your dog bites too hard, tell him not bite; if it gets too serious, put stop playing with him for a few minutes. Lastly, it might be a good idea to tell the children to respect the dog and not to tease him.

Nosework is a new sport where dogs are trained to find certain odors in four different elements – interiors, exteriors, vehicles and containers.  Sniffing is one of the greatest joys in a dog’s life, yet we rarely allow them to do it.  This class is a great confidence builder for dogs; offers an outlet for older and retired dogs; and provides mental stimulation for ALL dogs. Dogs will become proficient on their first target odor, and will learn how to be “odor obedient” even in the face of distractions.  The class is run seminar style where all dogs are crated when it is not their turn to work so owners will need to bring their dogs crate.

I cannot say enough great things about Dog School. My husband and I have very lancer son entreprise schedules and a very energetic dog so this place is a lifesaver. Before dog school, we didn’t think that our dog Abbey was capable of being tired out-even after multiple long trips to the dog park. We could not have been more wrong-Abbey is all smiles and can hardly stay awake when we get her home.

At first training begin in designated sessions throughout the day, with a variety of family members. All rewards should be saved for these training sessions. Over time however, you should begin to ask your puppy to perform the tasks at other times.

We have had two in home sessions with RD now, working on basic puppy training for our 3 month old, as well as some issues without 12 y/o. She is awesome! The dogs love her and she gets results. She re…ally understands how the dog thinks, and uses that to her advantage. Also, a big part of dog training is owner training, and she’s done a great job of training me and my husband. Thanks RD! Imagine your dog being calm, peaceful, happy, friendly and obedient – without treats or a prong collar or an e-collar. Imagine your dog walking peacefully next to or behind you as you walk down a crowded street with people, traffic, and even other dogs and animals passing by. No lunging, pulling or troublemaking. Imagine your dog lying peacefully by your side as you enjoy a meal at an outdoor cafe while strangers pass all around. Yes … your dog!

The Labrador Retriever is one of the oldest recognized dog breeds. Over the years they have also been known as the Lesser Newfoundland, St. Johns Dog and The Black Water Dog – these days they are simply called a Lab.

Most of the time we keep him in his crate which is large enough for him to stand and can easily stress his legs. Only for giving him food and potty we take him out and sometimes for playing with him till he gets exhausted and want to rest. Rest of the time he lives in the crate only and he is comfortable in it.”

There are no licensure requirements, but dog trainers can pursue voluntary certifications to show potential clients and employers that they have reached a certain level of knowledge and training. The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) is one such certifying organization, and it is generally considered the authority in the field.

We train the hyperactive dog to be under control and be a gentleman. The electric collar is quite popular for this. Put a hyperactive dog in the hands of a good trainer with an electric collar and that dog will make an excellent gun dog or field-trial dog, but his puppies probably will inherit the same hyperactivity. His puppies will be just as difficult to train as the sire was.

RD is one of the most amazing animal trainers I have ever met, when she walks in the front door my two cats and puppy act like they are hypnotized. We are learning so much about how our 7 mos old corg…i puppy thinks and how to teach her to be a good citizen. I cannot recommend RD highly enough! See More

Usually if the dog is to live in a family unit, it’s best to start young as having even the smallest amount of control and manners in your puppy is important if you wish to take them places, meeting people.

“…originated from “old school” training where heavy collar corrections were used and therefore it was preferred that a dog be at least old enough to withstand wearing the collar and dealing with the pressure of collar corrections and punishment during training sessions.”

If a dog doesn’t meet expectations at the end of a training course, it is as likely to be related to the training course or the pet owner as the dog. A recommended next step would be to carefully research more training methods and local trainers to find a program that is better suited to your dog. Another one is to consider whether lack of commitment, inconsistent at-home practice,  or an inconsistent discipline/reward system may have undermined the training program.

You can see a professional dog trainer raising his puppy and showing every step along the way on video so you know how and when to train your puppy certain skills, and get shown on video exactly HOW to train your puppy too.

If you’d like to enjoy the benefits of a step-by-step guide to follow, that details on video every step a professional trainer takes while raising a puppy from 8 weeks through to 1 year old, there’s a course we recommend.

There are a few different models that are used when having a dog work in a school setting.   The majority of this website was built using the model where the school professional is also the handler and the animal works primarily out of the same building.   Copper has additional training beyond basic therapy dog courses that is specific to working in a public school.  He works at the school 3 days a week.  I like this model because I can educate all the people in the building about behavior expectations when Copper is working. I also know the students that Copper works with.  There is more information about this under the How to Get Started tab.

Use these training tasks as you integrate the puppy into your life. For example, ask your puppy to “sit” prior to receiving her food, “sit” before you let her in or out the door, and “sit” before you pet her. These are times when your puppy wants something and is more likely to comply. In this way, you are training your dog all the time, throughout the day and also establishing predictable rules and routines for interactions and helping the dog to learn who controls the resources. Training your puppy prior to getting each requested necessity, helps to prevent problems. Having your puppy sit before getting a food or treat prevents begging, while teaching your dog to sit before opening the door can prevent jumping up or running out the door. Be creative. The time you spend training your puppy now will pay off when you have an adult dog. To have a well-trained dog, you need to be committedto reinforcing the training tasks on nearly a daily basis for the first year of your puppy’s life. The more you teach and supervise your puppy, the less opportunity it will have to engage in improper behaviors. Dogs do not train themselves, when left to choose their behavior they will act like dogs.

Good obedience training is more than just a series of ‘tricks’. It should be a practical, convenient, happy way of life. There’s no need to accept bad behaviors. Our dog trainer will show you how to solve these problems (and more) and how to train your dog effectively, humanely and respectfully while building a loving, trusting, cooperative bond with your pet. You’ll see an improvement in your dog’s behavior from the very first lesson. Positive, noticeable results are guaranteed.*

Obedience training should always be fun both for you and the dog. The ideal method is to use rewards in order to motivate the dog to behave. This also teaches him to think through problems to come up the appropriate behavior, rather than reacting out of fear of punishment.

The practice of delayed retrieving also pays dividends by making it easier for your pup to learn hand signals and blind retrieves. If you have four or five dead ducks on the water that have been there a while, your pup is not going to remember exactly where they are. He knows they are there and will eagerly cast off in their general direction, but his certainty will waver and he will be prone to seeking help from you.

All the basic dog obedience training commands such as sit, down, stay and heel will be enthusiastically and easily learned by your Lab puppy. Anybody who has had the pleasure of living with a Labrador puppy will acknowledge the importance of these two puppy training commands – Training your Labrador to walk nicely on a loose leash and also to stop jumping up on people. This is because of their size, strength and excitable nature – the good thing is they are quick learners.

Responsible dog owners have control, and in having control they and their dog actually have more freedom. You can take your canine companion more places. The dog gets a much richer life accompanying you on wonderful adventures because they know how to behave in public.

A good dog training class is a worthwhile investment in the future of your life with your dog. The time and money you spend on a class or two are a small fraction of what you will spend over your dog’s lifetime, and they will no doubt save you time, money, and more than a little frustration over the years. A class environment provides for some of the socialization your dog needs and teaches him to respond to you even with exciting distractions all around. A good instructor will help you become a more effective trainer and will point out mistakes that you don’t even know you’re making.

Mel Bussey and Jeff Silverman of Training Tracks Canine Learning Station provide the expertise that helps you understand why your canine companion does what he does. You will learn what motivates you…

Bark Busters dog training methods are based on how dogs naturally learn; because of this, quick results in your dog’s behavior are possible. We don’t use harsh dog training techniques, like shock collars, prong collars, physical domination or bribe with food to extort good dog behavior (which requires lots of time and repetition learning). Natural dynamics of pack law (dogs naturally learn by association) are employed to build a relationship of trust and safety with your dog. Our dog behavior training helps move you toward the ultimate goal of voice control and dog obedience based on respect for you, the dog owner.

Founded in 1998, Dog School is Philadelphia’s oldest doggie daycare and we’ve been around this long for more than a few good reasons. More than anything though, what really sets us apart is how we care about your dog like they’re our own.

A puppy will eat what they like, when they like. Go where dossier creation sasu can, when they can. Play with and chew on everything in sight whether it’s theirs or not. And they will not be able to listen to and act on your every word.

Imagine teaching your dog basic skills: sit, down, come, stay, and loose leash walking in a beautiful and fun setting.  Wouldn’t you like to have a well-mannered dog as a member of your family?  Most people would, but whether we like to admit it or not, most of our canine friends are in need of help when it comes to learning what we consider to be appropriate behavior. They do not always understand “our” rules and expectations, and they do not always understand what we are asking them to do. This lack of communication can cause frustration for both you and your pet, and this can unfortunately lead to bigger problems in the future. Providing training in order to give your dog the gift of understanding is the mission at Colonial Dog School. Only positive training methods are used because your best friend deserves it!

The puppy is getting overexcited. Immediately when the puppy starts to bite, stop putting the collar on and walk away. Let him calm down, then try again. You can also add a firm “No”, before you leave, which offers him the chance to calm down first. Leave plenty of time when going out, so you don’t feel pressured into giving in. Eventually, the puppy will learn the fastest way to get his collar on is to be good.

Mike took the time with each member of our family to help us clearly understand. We all learned so much. Both puppies responded almost immediately, it makes so much sense to have us learn to communicate in a way that works for the puppies. A kind and gentle way of training, so its fun for the pups and us.

Dogs Trust recognise the need for affordable behavioural and training support in the community. We believe that Dog School will help raise awareness of dog behaviour, strengthen the bond between owners and their dogs and help to address and prevent the development of unwanted or problematic behaviours. We are hopeful that this service will improve the welfare of dogs in the UK, both by providing owners with support in the home environment and by reducing the number of dogs being relinquished for behavioural reasons.

My dog LOVES dog school! It is easy to get her there and pick her up at any time, the people are so friendly, they pay attention to her and have noticed things I missed, the price is great, my dog loves the socialization and she is happily exhausted when I pick her up. I think it has taken my sweet, happy dog and made her sweeter and happier!

We offer fun and friendly classes for puppies, adults and rescue dogs in your local area. All classes are aimed at teaching your dog skills that are useful in everyday life. We want you to have a strong and healthy bond with your dog and enjoy each other’s company.

The versatility and intelligence of the Lab has seen the breed utilized in many different “jobs”. The Labrador is treasured and has proven invaluable in duties such as – police work, search and rescue, as a guide dog for the blind, drug detection, service dogs, watch dog work and much more…

The young pup looks to you for guidance. Never punish him either physically or with a harsh scolding as this will make him fearful of you. Old-fashioned training methods relied on dominating the dog, but we now know dogs trained this way obeyed out of fear rather than thinking through what’s wanted and obeying to please you.

Take the dog that lies down at a quiet word or signal from his owner, and remains there without moving, even when his owner walks out of sight or moves around, and even when children or dogs run past.

Of course, the puppy is going to make a heap of mistakes… only he won’t know he’s done wrong unless you tell him. However, harsh punishment is completely inappropriate. Instead, guide your puppy by saying “No!” in a firm voice, or “Uh-oh”, when he makes a mistake. This helps him understand that the decision he just made was not a good one. Then when he gets praise for doing the right thing, he learns to think through situations and select the appropriate action.

“aggressive dog +dog training secret”

Giving in to your puppy’s every need is not a good thing. As your puppy grows, so will his need to assert himself. Puppies often choose mealtimes as a battleground. But giving in to him is a mistake. You need to make sure he knows that you won’t respond to his every demand.

Be patient Training your dog will take time and effort-but it can be a great deal of fun for you and for her. And your hard work will pay off. With patience and persistence, you and your dog can accomplish great things.

Dog School has nothing to hide, either. Each location has a large store front window where you can witness the dogs doing their canine thing, often just being chill and loving each others company. They are all so adorable (but especially Ponyboy!!!!).

You haven’t just taught Gulliver, you have taught us as well. Thanks to Mat and the PRO K-9 team, we’ve learned the right and wrong way to handle different situations that have really made a difference. We are eager to continue his service dog training. Thank you so much for all the time and effort you’ve devoted to us!

One of the most endearing qualities of creer une societe en ligne Retrievers is that they remain very puppy-like long after they’ve reached adulthood. The downside is that their energy level and tendency to get into mischief continues well into adulthood as well. Therefore, it pays to have behavior management tools handy. Some management tools to keep in mind:

Again, perfectly normal behavior and especially for a Lab, it’s just a stage we have to go through with puppies, they all explore the world with their mouths initially. All you can do is puppy proof your home as best you can, and supervise him and redirect his chewing onto suitable toys until he grows out of it.

They will be eager to please, can learn a surprising amount, it’s fun for both of you and it’s quality time spent together that works to build the love and trust your puppy has for you, building a strong relationship.

He is recommended by veterinarians and shelters throughout the Dallas area, and has earned a reputation for training and rehabilitating so-called “difficult” dogs including those with behavior problems such as fear and aggression.

Start the training by letting your dog bark two or three times, praise him for sounding the alarm, then say “Stop barking” and hold out a treat in front of him. Your dog will stop immediately if only due to the fact that he can’t sniff the treat while barking. After a few seconds of quiet, give him the reward. Gradually increase the time from when the barking stops to the giving of the reward.

The most important part of training your dog is teaching her that it pays to do things you like. But your dog also needs to learn that it doesn’t pay to do things you don’t like. Fortunately, discouraging unwanted behavior doesn’t have to involve pain or intimidation. You just need to make sure that behavior you dislike doesn’t get rewarded. Most of the time, dog motivations aren’t mysterious. They simply do what works! Dogs jump up on people, for example, because people pay attention to them as a result. They can learn not to jump up if we ignore them when they jump up instead. It can be as simple as turning away or staring at the sky when your dog jumps up to greet or play with you. As soon as she sits, you can give her the attention she craves. If you stick to this plan, your dog will learn two things at once. Doing something you like (sitting) reliably works to earn what she wants (attention), and doing things you don’t like (jumping up) always results in the loss of what she wants.

Research is an important part of Dogs Trust’s work – it helps us ensure that are policies and practices are based in evidence, and we are doing the best we can for the dogs in our care. The research funded by Dogs Trust also has wider benefits for canine welfare. Click below to find out more!

Quinntastic Dog provides top-quality, effective training not only for puppies, but also their owners (along with the entire family). You can count on us to help you develop a wonderful relationship with your new family member.

I am writing this letter to let you know what a great trainer you have in Tom Mancuso here in the Kansas City area. He has worked with our dog Trapper for 2 sessions now and has done wonders with him. We felt that our dog would never listen to us and be to excited to have company over. Never in my life would I have thought that my dog could do what he is doing now with such little time of training. Mr. Mancuso has been very professional and courteous on every appointment and seems to genuinely care about the progress of Trappers training. I have told everyone that I know who owns a dog about Sit Means Sit and will continue to do so. Keep up the great work.

If your toddler was repeatedly sticking her fingers into open electrical outlets, what would you do? Would you sit her down and try to explain why that’s not a good idea? Would you smack her every time she did it? Nope, you’d probably buy some outlet covers. Voilà! Problem solved. Prevention is sometimes the best solution. When training a dog, the easiest way to deal with a behavior problem might be to simply prevent the undesired behavior from happening. If your dog raids the kitchen trash can, you could spend weeks training a perfect down-stay in another room-or you could move the trash can to a place where your dog can’t get to it. Prevention is also important if you’re trying to train your dog to do one thing instead of another. For example, if you want to house train your dog, she’ll learn fastest if you use a crate to prevent her from making mistakes inside while you focus on training her to eliminate outside.

The Bark Busters worldwide home dog training support guarantee is unique in the industry. It is designed to help owners resolve their dog’s behavior and obedience problems and to provide customers with the satisfaction of ongoing support and peace of mind from their Bark Busters trainer.

The mission and origins of Bark Busters were developed to prevent the euthanasia and surrender of dogs to animal shelters because of behavior problems. As volunteers in a Greyhound adoption program we have seen many dogs returned because the owners did not understand the training needs of their pet. By joining the Bark Busters pack, we can provide proven pet training methods and restore happiness to their homes. And these results apply to mature dog training, puppy training, rescue dog training, greyhound training, or virtually any breed, any issue.

Mental Stimulation: Just like sending a kid to school, training helps your Lab get much-needed mental mojo. Without it, you may notice the destructive signs of boredom. However, with daily training, they will get mental stimulation so they don’t feel the need to rearrange your furniture or redecorate your house with pillow feathers.

Along with my cat, Village gave me a good deal of insight on how to communicate with clients and how to successfully run a kennel. I was also introduced to a myriad of dogs, young, old, trained, untrained, hyper, and super mellow. This exposure to so many dogs really helped me to define what traits I prefer in a dog and in May of 2017, I adopted my first dog (as an adult), Thunder. Thunder is an adult German Shepherd who is goofy and tends to over think things when he’s excited. Adopting him changed my life in more ways than I could explain. I grew up with a twelve pound chihuahua/pug mix, so adopting a 114# GSD was certainly a huge difference. I wasn’t prepared to manage such a large dog and I quickly found out that he is as strong as an ox. Before I knew it, Thunder was bolting out of doors and hauling me around when on a leash. My roommates told me the only way he could continue living with us was if I got him under control. I recalled seeing a Sit Means Sit booth at Village’s annual pet fair back in April and decided to look up the number on Google. I got in contact with Jimmy and we set up a free demo.

To be totally honest, I drool over working dogs. I have always been a sucker for Border Collies and I may have been sold on the program just with the first siting of Jimmy’s dog Dolly. Even so, I sat through the demo with awe as Dolly and Tea worked. And then to make it really cemented in my mind that this was what I wanted for Thunder, Jimmy had me put a collar on my boy and we worked him with the start of “come.” I had only had Thunder for a week at this point and he didn’t even know his own name but Jimmy showed me how to get him to focus on me and do what I asked. So we signed up. After a couple of lessons, Jimmy asked me if I was interested in becoming a trainer and working for him. I didn’t have any real experience with dog training, but prior to adopting Thunder, I had been considering learning how to train dogs. It seemed rather perfect that Jimmy should ask me this. I mulled it over for a little while before agreeing, but I’m truly glad that I did. I have continued with Thunder’s training and have applied my knowledge to train my foster dog. I also look forward to training my own demo dog and working with clients to help them have a positive relationship with their own pups.

I married my college sweetheart in 2013 and we have since collected a couple cats, a dog, and two horses on our small farm. I continued my animal-based education at The University of Tennessee and earned an Animal Science degree in 2015. In the spring of 2017, I fostered and finish-trained a service dog for a disabled veteran as a volunteer. Shortly after, our roommate adopted a large German Shepherd who had no manners, but a sweet personality. With me being occupied because of the service dog training, my roommate contacted Sit Means Sit for help in dealing with her big guy. Jimmy Archuleta came out to the house to do a demonstration. We signed up and throughout the process I was continually impressed with how quickly and efficiently the training progressed. I have had a blast with the program and look forward to helping many others with their pups!

I’m that kind of person who likes to be prepared. Before our new member of the family arrived I have read all smart books about how to train the dog. I thought I’m the dog whisperer! Easy right? But t…hen reality comes and I’m facing this four legs and tail with head full of information- and nothing turns out like i thought it would! I was lucky to meet RD- professional, loving what she’s doing and most of all patient (not only toward dogs but their owners too) dog trainer. You do not necessarily need to train in a set session daily. Rather, integrate these tasks throughout the day. A goal to strive for is at least 15 minutes of training every day. These can be short 5 minute sessions spread throughout the day. Try to have all family members ask your puppy to do these tasks. Remember to try to train in every room of your house. You want your puppy to “sit,” “lie down,” and “stay” everywhere, not just in the training location. Practice in all locations you would like your puppy to behave and feel comfortable and relaxed in the future.

The advantage of ‘mocking up’  a fake scenario, rather than waiting to stumble across real live situations,  is that  it enables you to ‘set the dog up to win’, and to control the consequences of his actions.   You can read more about this strategy in this article: Faking It!

Also, she looks to me as her main caregiver (literally follows me everywhere)… do you have any tips on ways I could introduce the puppies to her? I’m expecting she will have some initial feelings of resentment towards them and be territorial since she has been the only dog we have had, so I’d like to try aid this transition as best I can. Although in the end I feel like a lot of it will be them feeling each other out. Any other advice you could give on this situation would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!

Hello!  My name is Julie Davis, manager of the Columbia, SC office of Dog Training in Your Home!  I’ve been with the company since 2004, and have loved every minute of it! Being able to help so many families reach their dog training goals with our in home dog training programs in Columbia SC has been a fantastic experience.  Whether it is a new puppy that needs housebreaking, play biting issues, helping the kids interact well, a shy dog become more confident, or aggression issues, it is so rewarding when we can help a dog adjust.  You can’t beat the feeling of saving a dog from going to or going back to a shelter.

Matt is not big on books and unfortunately had a dearth of literary learning. He is a visual learner, a hands-on learner who works best by actually doing a task. Luckily he has a really good teacher who thinks of ways to meet each student’s needs equitably. One such example of this is when Matt’s teacher assigns him to starting a business and keeping records of profit and loss. A satisfactory assignment will mean an extra math credit for gun-shy math Matt.

You should NOT have to carry a bag of treats, or a remote control to be able to hang out with your dog without the dog getting into trouble or being annoying. For that to happen, you need to develop a trusting, respectful relationship with your dog. We can show you how.

Training is a wonderful way to engage the pup’s brain and also to have him come to trust you. In addition, a well-trained dog is better able to go for long walks and run off leash, safe in the knowledge that he will come back to you.

The first ten to fifteen minutes of the session are devoted to our trainers learning all about your dog. This is the time for you to discuss specific problems your dog is having. The more our trainers are able to learn, the better they can help.

i have a 45 days old lab puppy, got him home last week. he is quite active and i am worried about his diet , he has lost about 300gms within a week. he eats only once a day and sometimes twice. i give him the same kibbles the breeder gave him . what can i do to improve his diet?

I brought my Std Poodle in for grooming and was pleasantly surprised. I normally groom him myself. I had found someone else who did a decent job grooming him (a step up better then me, I’m not a groo…mer I’m a hairstylist lol), she ended up leaving the shop as well as the next one and so on. I’ve paid out a whole bunch of $$ to have him groomed and was mostly disappointed in the end result, just sloppy work no attention to details or requests from me.

First of all, thank you very much for creating this equally helpful and accommodating website. I’m planning to get a puppy (Golden retriever) on February the 10th (2 months would have elapsed since he was born) and I have a few questions. Can I get him to a vet for a quick checkup while bringing him home? (The ride isn’t that long; 15 minutes max.) And should I put him in crate from the very first night? And if I do, at what intervals should I get him out in the night to go potty? What if he did it inside the crate during the night? I understood that night crating is different from day crating. So should can I start crate training him during the very next day?

Our staff isn’t just there for your dog during the day—they’ll take them home at night too! With our in-home boarding, your pup will be treated like family while you’re away. And, they’ll go to daycare all day instead of being cooped up in a kennel.

If the pup continually makes mistakes, then either you aren’t communicating clearly with the dog or he is tired and has lost concentration. Either way, stop and reassess the situation. If necessary, bring the session to an end (on a positive note) and try again later.

It’s more the fact ‘as soon as you get them home’ and 8 weeks happens to be the age at which it’s recommended a puppy is taken from it’s mother and litter-mates to go to a new home. So owners don’t get their puppies before this age.

4.  Quiet Space..there is a lounge area that is separate from the large area for dogs to just chill out.  I was happy about that because my Bulldog does not know his limits sometimes when he’s romping with the younger ladies.  It made me feel more comfortable knowing that if he got too crazy, there was a place for him to catch his breath.

Redirect your puppy’s attention using teething toys. When he has calmed down, gently talk to him and stroke him. Keep your hand away from his mouth. Start playing again and avoid getting the puppy excited. This time, use toys instead of your hands to get your puppy engaged. Start playing fetch, so that you are tossing toys away from you and using the puppy’s prey drive for positive fun. Playing with toys can be used as a training reward or break and keeps your hands away from the puppy’s teeth.[5]

RD is amazing! Seriously, best dog trainer I’ve ever worked with! And there has been a few. When my girlfriend told me she booked an appointment for our dog troubles I was skeptical, to say the least…. She arrived on time, she introduced herself and got immediately to work. I have a German Shepherd that has aggression issues and a few others. We put our dog in his kennel prior to her arrival. She asked us to exit the room so there were no extra energies (fear from us) present. Within five minutes our dog had silenced his disapproval of her presence in ‘his’ house and she invited us back into the room. To our amazement, our dog was out of his kennel, and leashed by her side. This was shocking! I never would’ve believed it if I wasn’t there as a witness. She diagnosed our dog, showed us how to work him past his issues and take control of our household again. Her rates are affordable, she’s incredibly intelligent and a downright cool person to work with. I highly, highly, highly recommend giving her a chance to earn your business! You won’t regret it.
