The typical Labrador retriever of 30 or 40 years ago was a gentle, calm dog. Today, an unfortunately large number of Labradors are hyperactive and difficult to train. The basic reason for this shift in breeding selection appears to be our field-trial system.

By sticking to your training, being consistent and sticking to routines…and that’s key…he will eventually come out of growing pains and adolescence into an adult dog with ingrained training and learning that he will settle into and hopefully be a well mannered, well-behaved joy for you to marvel at and enjoy for the best part or more of another decade.
There aren’t possibly enough good things to be said about Dog School. I rescued a hot mess of an Australian Cattle Dog who had more energy than any ten dogs could possibly need… and unfortunately almost no training or socialization. Dog School has been an invaluable resource in both saving my own sanity (giving this ball of energy http://rentabilisermapassion.org/french/comment-demarrer-une-entreprise-rentable-a-partir-de-zero-epicor-grandir-des-affaires-pas-de-logiciel/ fun place to be on days when I can’t provide that as much as I’d like- she is always TIRED OUT at the end of the day!) and introducing her to other wonderful dogs that she can safely play with and make friends. I’ve had no worries about her safety- the staff is wonderful about working with her and being attentive to how she’s doing. It’s been about a year and I’m positive that Dog School has been a critical part of the progress she’s made.
Gloria was phenomenal!! She got along great with our puppy Swag and we could tell from the start that Swag loved her! Within 4 short weeks, we have already seen a huge improvement in our puppy’s mannerisms and overall behavior.
We will try our best to make sure you see the same coaches each week for your classes, because we think it is important for us to get to know you and your puppy. The coaches work in teams of three, so you should get to know all the team members over your course. Occasionally there may be a change in one coach because of sickness or holidays, but if this is necessary, we will try to ensure that you are introduced to your new coach the week before the change so that they are familiar with you and your dog.
Labs will eat EVERYTHING. Shoes, paper, couches, including their own poop. In fact, most dog breeds eat their own poop. If you don’t want this happening, I reccomend picking his poop up everytime he goes outside and throwing it out. These dogs are bred to put things in their mouths, and they most certainly will put poop in there too.
He is crazy for food, and become restless at exact time of his food time. Now he is 4 months old and all his initial 3 vaccinations has been done. He weighs 20 Kgs now and is healthy. He becomes hyper active when he sees or meets children. I have to keep a close watch and a tight hold on his leash whenever he is around children.
Cairng for dogs is more than long walks and the occasional brushing. Depending on the breed you have and its size there are a number of specific training and grooming steps you may need to take to provide special care. Different breeds require specific instructions as the response is not uniform from say a Poodle and a Terrier. Theres a lot to learn when teaching a canine basic commands but our range of how-to manuals and guides make teaching your buddy fun, rewarding and most of all successful. Whether you are in the market for a Beagle, Bloodhound, Shih Tzu or Great Dane we have everything youll need to properly raise and care for your dog.
P.S. In the back of the book is a 27-word glossary of dog sledding terms, as well as a labeled diagram of a dog sled team. Keep in mind, too, that the sled dogs apparently are penned or chained when not running, something that may disturb some readers.
I believe that every dog should be properly trained. The decision to train an animal can be one of the best decisions ever made regarding your pet. I believe that whether you train your dog or not, he will learn habits from you and your family. Obedience training ensures that your animal develops the kind of habits that will allow him to live a long healthy life. The right kind of habits will also allow pet and owner to enjoy a healthy, loving bond.

RD does a wonderful job of addressing specific problematic behaviors your dog may be exhibiting. Our rescue dog, Oly, was highly reactive to small dogs in our home. During our first training session… with RD she brought a small dog to our home and gave my partner and I the necessary tips to manage Oly’s behavior and keep the small dog safe and happy. We are relieved to get some support with Oly and look forward to working more with her in the future! See More
Use a water spray bottle in severe cases. In cases where biting is exceptionally strong or persistent, keep a water spray bottle handy. Accompany your firm “NO!” with a squirt of water in puppy’s face to interrupt the behavior. Take care to set the nozzle to spray and not jet. You just want to startle the puppy, not harm him. Be aware that the puppy will associate the water spray with you, and this could make him wary of you at other times.
“It was as if we had a different dog at the end of the session! Rachel was thorough, professional, and personable. Not only was Rachel incredibly organized and thoughtful, she provided a DVD for my children to watch about how to act with dogs. She made us feel comfortable and encouraged!”
RD was absolutely fabulous with my dog Goose (and I). Within an hour of time together she had helped correct unwanted behavior and life was looking soooo much less stressful again! The plus side was that she taught us how to communicate, consider our energy and no treats were needed! We are going to work together again to master a few more challenges.
Practice the commands in lots of different places — in the living room, garden, hall or kitchen, even out on walks — so that he gets used to responding to you in all sorts of situations. You can use the click technique to help with other aspects of your puppy’s training, such as encouraging him to stand still for grooming and getting him used to traveling by car.
There is no formal apprenticeship system in dog training, but opportunities to work with other experienced trainers and a large variety of dogs is essential to your education. Volunteering with shelters and local rescue groups is also extremely helpful to introduce you to a range of canine personalities, breeds etc. When you look for a trainer to mentor with, make sure the that trainer is committed to furthering his or her own education, is open to learning about a variety of methods, and is devoted to humane training methods.
You can see a professional dog trainer raising his puppy and showing every step along the way on video so you know how and when to train your puppy certain skills, and get shown on video exactly HOW to train your puppy too.

The puppy is getting overexcited. Immediately when the puppy starts to bite, stop putting the collar on and walk away. Let him calm down, then try again. You can also add a firm “No”, before you leave, which offers him the chance to calm down first. Leave plenty of time when going out, so you don’t feel pressured into giving in. Eventually, the puppy will learn the fastest way to get his collar on is to be good.
“It’s important to remember that puppies are like little kids. And like little kids, they’re uncoordinated, easily distracted, and gentle,” says Steven Applebaum, president and director of Animal Behavioral College, a school in Northridge, Calif., that trains dog trainers via the Web and externships at shelters throughout the U.S.
Realize the importance of teaching your dog not to bite. If you allow puppy biting, it may get out of control and your puppy will not learn to control his bite. This can lead to serious behavioral issues when your puppy reaches adulthood. If you suspect your puppy is biting out of fear or anger, talk with an animal behavioral therapist, who may be able to help.
Giving in to your puppy’s every need is not a good thing. As your puppy grows, so will his need to assert himself. Puppies often choose mealtimes as a battleground. But giving in to him is a mistake. You need to make sure he knows that you won’t respond to his every demand.
The version of the vaccine must cover the H3N2 strain. If your dog has never had this vaccine, please note that it is administered in 2 doses, 3 – 5 weeks apart. After that, they should get an annual booster.
Hi Kay, It is totally up to you. Most right handed people find it convenient to teach their dog to heel to the left, as it gives them the dominant hand free, but it’s entirely your decision. Best wishes, Lucy.
Your curriculum and education at the training school should include lectures, reading assignments and practical hands-on experience working with a large number and variety of dogs and/or other animals. The instruction should go on for weeks, not days. Remember, your education will continue throughout your career.
