….We take the best of the best from our litters of Labrador Puppies….and train them for 8-11 Months…at which time Handlers take the baton and finish them….We applaud all handlers that purchase a Maranatha Started dog for their Dedication …to work disasters and individual Cases.
While their teeth may be sharp, labradors are RETRIEVERS. The light biting is called mouthing. These dogs are instinctly bred to do this, as they require to apply gentle pressure when retrieving game such as birds and ducks. They are création auto entrepreneur sporting dogs.
Although referring to all breeds in general and not purely Labradors, for those of you that love to watch and not read, the series of dog training videos on www.dogstrust.org.uk are well worth a look.
We teach people to become Certified Dog Trainers and dogs to be a loving member of the family. Learn more about how you can become a Dog Trainer and get certified by the best at the Anthony Jerone’s Canine Education Academy.
I have a 3 month old Black lab. When we try to put a leash on him he just wants to bite it, and hold it in his mouth. Is he too young for leash training? We have a couple of acres and he has not been on a leash before. Any tips?
Niki is a Poodle/Bichon mix we adopted from the Humane Society. I immediately scheduled sessions with Pat. After just a few weeks, Niki sleeps willingly in her crate all night without a sound, waits for me to go through the door first, barks less and stops when I say, is polite with my family and visitors, and doesn’t pull on the leash or bark on walks. – Betty, Santa Rosa, CA
But if you live out in the country, kennel your dogs outside and are fine with them just running free for a few months, they will soon catch up with the early starters and leaving them to mature before starting will not mean they cannot succeed in training.
Of course not! Just imagine the house disaster you put yourself into when you let loose an untrained dog. That is right! You need to train your Labrador next after all the cuddling and provisions you provide him. Good news is these dogs are excellent in training in obedience and you will be amazed on how obedient your Labradors are.
“From the moment I stepped off the plane in North Carolina the learning process began, I felt very welcome and I knew this was my kind of place the moment we arrived. From then on the fun began, learning how to decoy for different kinds of dogs (Police, PSA, and Personal Protection), learning how to use the E-Collar for specialized applications, and most importantly developing the work ethic that separates amateurs from professionals. At this point I can safely say attending Tarheel Canine has been the best decision I’ve ever made. Not only did I attain the knowledge, skills, and work ethic to become successful in this industry, I got to meet and learn from people that truly make me a better person.”

RD has been a blessing to our dogs. We have seen multiple trainers and no one was able to help us with the issues we were having with one our two dogs except for RD. With patience, trial and error, an…d trying to work within our means, we were able to find successful tactics to help both our dogs and us have a better quality of life. She reminded us that dogs are not like broken objects you can take to the repair shop for a one stop fix. She can give you the tools that work best for your lifestyle to help you and your dog have a better life, but it’s up to you to implement the tools and bring consistency. We highly recommend RD and are better dog parents for having met her! See More

“Leave it! / Drop it!” The first command is important if you see your dog going for that cigarette butt on the ground. The second command is for when they’re already chewing on it. (Related: How to train your lab to drop and leave items.)
RD was so great to work with! We were having some issues with our 5 yr. old vizsla Dita with eating compulsions as well as setting the right boundaries and expectations for everyday living. RD was super helpful and gave us the tools to amend and modify all the behaviors- including our own!!
The puppy has the bladder he has, and you cannot influence that. What you can do is make it easy for him to be clean, by taking him outside to his toilet area very early in the morning, and even in the middle of the night , if that is what he needs.
Before we find out how to potty train a dog, we should probably find out if is really necessary to have a structured potty training process, or whether dogs will potty train themselves naturally without our help.
Training is a wonderful way to engage the pup’s brain and also to have him come to trust you. In addition, a well-trained dog is better able to go for long walks and run off leash, safe in the knowledge that he will come back to you.
If you notice real aggression in your pup, consult your veterinarian, who will check if there is a medical reason for your pup’s behavior. Your vet may also recommend your pup sees an animal behavior therapist.
Right from the day you bring your Labrador home, make him understand that he needs to relieve himself not inside your house, but somewhere outside. For the initial eight weeks, take him out at regular intervals, especially after meals, before going to bed and when your Lab wakes up in the morning. And once he is successfully trained in housebreaking, don’t forget to reward him with a treat. Dogs simply dig treats!
4. Quiet Space..there is a lounge area that is separate from the large area for dogs to just chill out. I was happy about that because my Bulldog does not know his limits sometimes when he’s romping with the younger ladies. It made me feel more comfortable knowing that if he got too crazy, there was a place for him to catch his breath.

The advantage of ‘mocking up’ a fake scenario, rather than waiting to stumble across real live situations, is that it enables you to ‘set the dog up to win’, and to control the consequences of his actions. You can read more about this strategy in this article: Faking It!

Mike took the time with each member of our family to help us clearly understand. We all learned so much. Both puppies responded almost immediately, it makes so much sense to have us learn to communicate in a way that works for the puppies. A kind and gentle way of training, so its fun for the pups and us.
