Your puppy needs to learn that people around him, particularly small children, can be a bit unpredictable. But he needs to accept that their unpredictable behavior is not threatening. You can help him do this by imitating a child’s behavior. Try stepping quickly towards his bowl — then drop in a treat. Gently bump into him, while he’s eating, or roll toys nearby — anything to cause a distraction, but drop a treat in the bowl to reward him for continuing to eat calmly. Do this every so often, but not at every meal. If your puppy freezes mid-mouthful, growls or glares at you, stop and try again another time. If this continues, it’s best to seek advice from a veterinary behaviorist or certified dog trainer.
Our training classes are aimed at giving création sarl formalités information and skills that you can apply to your puppy’s behaviour in any situation. If you have an existing issue that would require help with please contact your local coach and describe the problems you are having. It may be possible for us to help you in a class setting, or it may be that your coach will recommend a 1-1 session with a trainer or behaviourist. In some cases, the class environment may not be the most suitable for your dog, in which case we will always strive to offer an alternative plan of action!
If your puppy is feeling brave or aggressive, he’ll try to make himself larger by standing tall, with his ears and tail sticking upright. He’ll also push out his chest and raise the hair on his neck and back. He might also growl and wave his tail slowly.
Everyone is so nice and friendly happy and you can tell that they all love animals and what they’re doing. My Reggie is very shy and a bit nervous around new things and people he did great with them. Theses students are getting a top notch education in grooming and it shows.

Set in Copper Creek, Michigan that I couldn’t find on a map (though I found many retailers and other entities with Copper Creek in their name), Sled Dog School engages anyone who loves animals, kids, adventure, and a touch of how will this resolve (or will it?) in a story that includes Matt, his younger sister Lily, a math class assignment, and a heartening outcome. At least in the past, Michigan was major Copper Country, and it feels as if Copper Creek may be in the northern part of the state, possibly in the Upper Peninsula. We get sled dogs teams in a rural residential area, parents raising free range kids, a family living off the grid. An outhouse, no electric, no central heating, and enough snow for dog teams? Yes!
The trick, of course, is to find an excellent class and instructor. The dog training industry isn’t regulated, and anyone can claim to be a trainer or obedience instructor, so it pays to check around before you sign up for a class. It’s bad enough to waste money on a poor class, but your dog is also vulnerable to being frightened or even injured by the wrong person. If possible, observe a class or two before you sign up, and meet or observe your prospective instructor.

Would you be able to book a couple of house visit sessions with a professional dog trainer? I know they aren’t cheap but I think it will really help you. They can come to your house and see your boy in his environment, how he behaves, watch you try to command and guide him to do things and then advise and actually show you how to get the results you’re after. Train your dog and show you how to train your dog. In just two or three sessions you should be able to watch and copy exactly how they go about things to get results with your individual dog…and that’s the important part, with YOUR dog. Because what works with some may not work with others.
Using a long training lead on a rescue dog is often a very good idea. The dog simply trails the lead around on the ground whilst running free outdoors, this gives you some control whilst allowing him some freedom
A puppy will eat what they like, when they like. Go where they can, when they can. Play with and chew on everything in sight whether it’s theirs or not. And they will not be able to listen to and act on your every word.
My daughters and I stop here on the way to school to say hello to the dogs and today a truly lovely thing happened: Brittany at the south street location heard my 4-yr-old talking about her imaginary …dog “Didi” and offered to “look after her” for the day! Not only that, but when she saw us again on the way home (after returning a puppy to its mama) she “returned” this imaginary dog friend to my daughter and told her she’d had a great day! What a sweet young woman!
Most of the time we keep him in his crate which is large enough for him to stand and can easily stress his legs. Only for giving him food and potty we take him out and sometimes for playing with him. Rest of the time he lives in the crate only and he is comfortable in it.”

RD was great. I was really nervous about the awkwardness of having a stranger come in and make my sweet little guy anxious. But she was really nice and a total professional. There was no weirdness at …all beyond the first couple of minutes, and she gave me some super helpful tips to help encourage better behaviors in my dog when we are faced with challenges/distractions while walking. She even used her time to turn our meeting into an impromptu training session and we got in some walking practice on that same day. Thanks so much and we will definitely be scheduling again soon! See More
My experience with Animal Assisted Therapy started in 2009 when I partnered with Colorado State University and HABIC (Human Animal Bond in Colorado) in a graduate level research project. We had one HABIC team work with a student. That student blossomed and I was convinced that I needed to learn more. I spent a significant portion of time on the internet and decided to adopt a dog that could potentially come to work at school. It was 18 months later that Copper first entered our building. I hope the information on this site shortens the entry time for other professionals interested in this modality and provides best practices to those of use who are breaking ground with our own programs.
Also, please note that because of volume, we are unable to respond to individual comments, although we do watch them in order to learn what issues and questions are most common so that we can produce content that fulfills your needs. To be totally honest, I drool over working dogs. I have always been a sucker for Border Collies and I may have been sold on the program just with the first siting of Jimmy’s dog Dolly. Even so, I sat through the demo with awe as Dolly and Tea worked. And then to make it really cemented in my mind that this was what I wanted for Thunder, Jimmy had me put a collar on my boy and we worked him with the start of “come.” I had only had Thunder for a week at this point and he didn’t even know his own name but Jimmy showed me how to get him to focus on me and do what I asked. So we signed up. After a couple of lessons, Jimmy asked me if I was interested in becoming a trainer and working for him. I didn’t have any real experience with dog training, but prior to adopting Thunder, I had been considering learning how to train dogs. It seemed rather perfect that Jimmy should ask me this. I mulled it over for a little while before agreeing, but I’m truly glad that I did. I have continued with Thunder’s training and have applied my knowledge to train my foster dog. I also look forward to training my own demo dog and working with clients to help them have a positive relationship with their own pups.
Hold a treat in front of the pup’s nose. Keeping the treat very close to the dog, travel the treat down the dog’s brisket to the floor. In an attempt to follow the treat the pup should drop to the ground, at which point say “Down” and give him the treat.
I just started using this place as a Doggie Daycare for my 1 yr old English Bulldog named Biggie. I was EXTREMELY apprehensive about putting him in daycare not because he’s crazy..because I’m crazy..crazy about him!
Many other owners have no trouble getting their dog to walk nicely on a lead in the garden, but find themselves dragged of their feet within minutes of leaving the garden gate or whenever a passerby approaches.

Pet owners who are novices at training can begin a training program with these few simple steps. It takes repetition, time and perseverance for the puppy to predictably and reliably respond to commands in a variety of situations. Consider only classes that use positive training techniques.
Reward good behavior. Always praise good behavior with lots of gentle love and cuddles. Use rewards effectively to reinforce good behavior. For example, if your dog successfully responds to your request to drop a toy, say, “yes!,” or “good boy!” Verbal rewards work well when you’re playing and may have your hands full of toys.
Highly recommend Will to train your dog. He has done an amazing job with my 16 month old Great Dane! Moose has totally made a complete turn around to his unruly days! And with Will’s help I’m on my way to accomplishing a dream….Moose will start working on becoming a certified therapy dog as…
Before starting her full-time writing business, Sarah worked with a top pet food company as a consultant to veterinarians conducting weekly classes on canine and feline nutrition for the doctors and staff.
We have also used the dog walking service and loved it. It’s super easy to set up and the walkers were trustworthy, prompt, and never skimped on time. I highly recommend both the daycare and the dog walking!
