There are several common methods of dog training, including classical conditioning, operant-conditioning training (encompassing positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement training), dominance-based training, clicker training, and electronic training. Classical conditioning dates back to Pavlov – it means learning through association. If one thing consistently leads to another, a dog will associate the first with the second. The long-term result is to create habitual behaviors. Operant conditioning can be split into two sub-categories: positive reinforcement, where a dog is rewarded for good behavior, and negative, where a dog experiences consequences for bad behavior. The long-term result creates a dynamic where a dog will try new environments or behaviors due to owner prompts. Clicker training is a very popular sub-category of operant conditioning, where a dog is first trained with treats and corresponding “click” noise, and then gradually weaned to do the same processes for fewer treats but the same amount of clicks. Dominance-based training is a controversial method that is modeled around the “Alpha dog” hierarchy model, where one creature leads a pack. However, though dominance training has many naysayers, it is the precursor of the iconic “Dog Whisperer” method popularized by Cesar Millan.

The owners are rad. They are young Philly entrepreneurs who are sincere about providing a positive environment for dogs whose parent(s) works. They get our domesticated dogs too, i.e.  that they are pack animals that nevertheless need their belly’s rubbed.

In 2011, animal trainers averaged $30,510 a year. Because certain industries – namely motion pictures – pay higher salaries for their trainers, median wage is often used to predict earning potential. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, half of all trainers earned $25,980 a year or less. Both figures, however, fail to differentiate one type of trainer from the next. A dog trainer is paid a much different scale than a horse trainer, for example.

I bought this book– the kindle edition– for creation entreprise individuelle kindergarden aged grandson. He is learning to read and the short, rhyming sentences are fun for him. It kept his attention all the way to the end. He loved the story and the pictures. His two year old sister sat and listened as we read it. At the end, she said “do school dog again, please!” That’s very rare for her .I just wish I’d bought the paper edition rather than have it on my tablet–It looks as though it will be a favorite for a very long time!

RD has been a huge help in just the first couple of times meeting with her! Our dog, Dempsey, has needed to work on over-excitedly greeting people as well as with leash pulling and frustration. We’ve …already seen some major improvements and have been given the tools to continue on this positive trend. RD is great at being a calm, helpful presence as she explains what is going through your dogs mind and how to use this to your advantage. We still need to work on the homework that she gives us at the end of each session, but I know we will continue to see improvements week to week both in training sessions as well as in daily life. It’s very important to keep any training ‘game based’ and very short, just 1 to 3 minutes max. They have short attention spans and you don’t want to teach them to dislike training by making it hard and stressful.

Work on only one part of a skill at a time Many of the skills we want our dogs to learn are complex. For instance, if you want to train a solid sit-stay, you’ll need to work on teaching your dog that she should stay in a sitting position until you release her (duration), she should stay while you move away from her (distance), and she should stay while distracting things are going on around her (distraction). You’ll probably both get frustrated if you try to teach her all of these things at the same time. Instead, start with just one part of the skill and, when your dog has mastered that, add another part. For example, you can work on duration first. When your dog can sit-stay for a few minutes in a quiet place with no distractions while you stand right next to her, start training her to stay while you move away from her. While you focus on that new part of the skill, go back to asking your dog to stay for just a few seconds again. When your dog can stay while you move around the room, slowly build up the duration of the stay again. Then you can add the next part-training in a more distracting environment. Again, when you make the skill harder by adding distraction, make the other parts-duration and distance-easier for a little while. If you work on all the parts of a complex skill separately before putting them together, you’ll set your dog up to succeed.

Regarding food, try to get the same food your breeder uses so your puppy doesn’t have to go through change which often ends in digestive upset for a few days. The food your breeder uses, or a food you source, will have instructions on how much to feed your puppy and how often. You’ll read advice on how often and what times to feed a puppy in the house training article I already linked to.

In fact, training and exercise is a fun activity for a Labrador. You can play catch, swim in the water and train him to sit, stand, stay and roll over.

The truth is that many ‘professional dog trainers’ don’t know much more about training dogs than you do … otherwise they would be proudly showing you the results of their work. When you have problems with your dog, you need to get those problems solved so you can move on with your life. You want a trainer that can show you how to get it done right. A trainer who can show you how to get it done quickly, and with competence as well as compassion. With effective and respectful training. Someone with experience solving the problem you are having with your dog. This is especially true if you are in need of aggressive dog training. Testimonials are great, and pictures of playing puppies are cute. But they don’t prove competence. Results do.
