RD is amazing! We had two sessions at my home and after the first one, my 10 month old rescue pup was no longer afraid to get in and ride in the car, or go on walks. She taught me how to speak dog and… be the alpha so my pup can feel confident and secure with me. We are still working on separation anxiety, but comment démarrer une petite entreprise of RDs advice has been successful so far. She is definitely a dog whisperer. I’d recommend her to anyone! Your puppy’s adult teeth will start to erupt around four months (16 weeks or so) of age. For this reason, you should manage puppy biting before this age since adult teeth will cause more harm to human skin.[11]

My two yellow labs have been patients now for one year with Dr. Tony Meyers and Ginger. I want people to know how great this office is not only during the first visit but every single time you visit. One of my dogs has diabetes and is insulin dependent twice a day. It was a huge adjustment for m…

I rescued my beautiful girl Abby seven months ago, and thanks to Canine Dimensions my boxer mix puppy is turning into a well-mannered young adult. They helped me work with her leash aggression, play biting, jumping, and all of the other traits that come with such an intelligent and energetic dog. Most importantly they taught me how to have the confidence to handle Abby in all situations. Thank you!

So 5 stars for a conveniently located place with convenient hours, super awesome staff and facility…and ESPECIALLY for the crazy, happy, and exhausted puppy that I get to pick up every Wednesday evening- he sleeps like a rock when he gets home. 🙂

No! Don’t give up! At 10 months old he isn’t even yet a teenager and you wouldn’t give up on a 9 or 10 year old boy! I have an 11yo son: He still runs into things, eats the things I say he shouldn’t from the worktops and runs away from my side when we’re out and about too! haha.

The author, Deborah Heiligman, has written a fun book. Tinka is the dog in this book, and believe me, Tinka does everything. Tinka is good, Tinka is bad, Tinka is fun, Tinka is sad, Tinka runs, Tinka suns, Tinka is cool, and Tinka goes to school. When you read this book, you will discover exactly what Tinka does, and believe me, Tinka does everything.

Summer comes and it is so hot we can’t do some of the outside activities with our dog that we usually do.  We don’t have our dog training classes during the summer months here due to the heat.  No one wants to be out in the heat, and certainly our dogs who wear fur…

React consistently to bites. Every time your puppy bites, say “NO!” in a firm voice. Then just walk away and ignore the puppy. Social isolation and time outs can be an effective form of punishment for a pack animal.[1] You can also yelp when your puppy bites too hard. It might seem silly but puppies in a litter will cry out if a sibling accidentally bites too hard. Yelping when your puppy lays teeth on your will give feedback to very young puppies about what is acceptable playing and what isn’t.[2]

Once your dog begins to recognize you as the leader, it is important to let him know what kind of behavior is expected of him. So, pat your pup whenever he does something good and ignore his tantrums. Praise your Lab whenever he obeys your commands and executes them well, or does something to make you happy. This will encourage him and in the long run, he will be more devoted to you. Also, when your dog makes mistakes, you should be patient. Punishing him will take you nowhere and will only result in your Lab turning aggressive.

To communicate clearly and consistently with your dog, you need to understand how she learns. Dogs learn through the immediate consequences of their behavior. The nature of those consequences determines how they’ll behave in the future. Dogs, like other animals (people included), work to get good things and avoid bad things in life. If a behavior results in something rewarding-like food, a good belly rub, playtime with dog buddies or a game of fetch with her pet parent-your dog will do that behavior more often. On the other hand, if a behavior results in an unpleasant consequence-like being ignored or losing things she finds rewarding-she’ll do that behavior less often.

Doggy Day School includes small group play sessions which are supervised by a trained staff to make sure your fur kid gets safe, beneficial socialization. Play groups are modified, if necessary to make sure the fur kids have positive interactions.

Work on only one part of a skill at a time Many of the skills we want our dogs to learn are complex. For instance, if you want to train a solid sit-stay, you’ll need to work on teaching your dog that she should stay in a sitting position until you release her (duration), she should stay while you move away from her (distance), and she should stay while distracting things are going on around her (distraction). You’ll probably both get frustrated if you try to teach her all of these things at the same time. Instead, start with just one part of the skill and, when your dog has mastered that, add another part. For example, you can work on duration first. When your dog can sit-stay for a few minutes in a quiet place with no distractions while you stand right next to her, start training her to stay while you move away from her. While you focus on that new part of the skill, go back to asking your dog to stay for just a few seconds again. When your dog can stay while you move around the room, slowly build up the duration of the stay again. Then you can add the next part-training in a more distracting environment. Again, when you make the skill harder by adding distraction, make the other parts-duration and distance-easier for a little while. If you work on all the parts of a complex skill separately before putting them together, you’ll set your dog up to succeed.

Spring of 2015 ….3 of our Pups (3 different litters) were picked up to be future working dogs for the Pennsylvania Game Commission….they are much older now and also trained to actually be working cases…..you can also follow them on the The Game commission Website

Another option is to have a certified team of handler and dog, work with the school professional and the student(s).  In this model, the dog and handler typically come to the school as volunteers to work with a specific student under the guidance of a school professional.  After that session they leave the building. The dog and handler may work at several sites in a typical week of volunteering.  I have added this model to my school counseling program for the 2017-2018 school year.   I have several requests for animal-assisted interventions but am limited by Copper’s schedule.   BF Kitchen is very fortunate to have therapy dog team Christine (handler) and Leila (golden retriever) visit our school each week.

As a person who makes regular visits to the gym and makes efforts to take long hikes with my 2 labs to get them some exercise, I can’t say enough good things about the boot camps and training that Hustle-n-Heel is providing. It really is a great workout, very entertaining, and quite motivating. …

If you are going to teach your dog to recall away from children,  you will need to ‘rope in’  some children to help you.   If you are going to teach your dog to walk to heel past other dogs,  again you will need to get help from a friend or friends with other dogs.

Nosework is a new sport where dogs are trained to find certain odors in four different elements – interiors, exteriors, vehicles and containers.  Sniffing is one of the greatest joys in a dog’s life, yet we rarely allow them to do it.  This class is a great confidence builder for dogs; offers an outlet for older and retired dogs; and provides mental stimulation for ALL dogs. Dogs will become proficient on their first target odor, and will learn how to be “odor obedient” even in the face of distractions.  The class is run seminar style where all dogs are crated when it is not their turn to work so owners will need to bring their dogs crate.

The electric collar is a great training tool in the hands of a good trainer. However, there is an astronomically greater number of electric collars than there are good trainers. The truth is, in order to train a dog with the electric collar, you must be able to train him without it.

Trainers are eligible for the CCPDT’s dog trainer “knowledge assessed” certification if they can show that they have at least 300 hours of experience as a dog trainer, and that 75 percent of those hours were spent leading classes as a head trainer. Once a trainer meets eligibility requirements, he or she can take a certification exam.

Jimmy is a great instructor and helped our rescue dog and our family immensely. Roscoe (our furry family member) is a nervous dog who had issues with “guarding his people” and not walking well on a lead. Jimmy spent time with our entire family getting to know us and worked with each of us individually…

It’s very important to keep training tasks simple, setting your puppy up to succeed while avoiding failure. This means going very slowly and not expecting too much. Having many small wins is very encouraging. Many failures are frustrating and stressful and can kill a puppy’s enthusiasm for training and learning.
