Our instructors are student focused. We want to make sure you get what you need as an individual to be successful. Not every student needs the same teaching ouvrir une boutique sur internet either. Jerry Bradshaw, before becoming a dog trainer, was a college professor, so education is the highest calling in his opinion. Breaking down complex tasks and teaching concepts clearly is a priority. All of the instructors at Tarheel are required to teach in this way.  Our trainers keep an intensive schedule to keep students working and dogs advancing throughout the day. Each training day for students is 10 hours long M-F. Instructors work on 4 day shifts. Some M-Th, and some T-F, so students can avail themselves of a maximum amount of training time by coming all week long. Students are also welcome to come to our Tarheel Canine Protection Sports Association Club on Sunday mornings where the trainers work their own competition dogs. Students will rotate throughout the week among the instructors getting some different perspectives, and learning from a variety of experiences.

Puppy training mainly focuses on socialization and basic manners, and thus fits well into a small-group training model. Puppies will learn to be friendly around other puppies and humans, and they will learn familiarity with the leash. Beginner and intermediate obedience classes are usually taught in a group training setting, wherein 5-10 owners and dogs learn basic to medium commands (sit and stay/down/heel). The group setting is recommended because it teaches dogs to ignore other distractions–whether they be dogs, humans or peripheral noises.

I, for one, get my personal dogs from England. They are calm, cooperative and pleasant to live with, and they find all the birds I shoot. I’ve gotten lazy and prefer a dog that has gotten most of the required talents through selective breeding.

My husband and I highly recommend Training Tracks! We initially met Jeff through a local animal shelter and then started in-home training sessions with our first dog for some behavioral problems. Both…

Pet owners who are novices at training can begin a training program with these few simple steps. It takes repetition, time and perseverance for the puppy to predictably and reliably respond to commands in a variety of situations. Consider only classes that use positive training techniques.

Marsha was incredible. I didn’t think my bichon could be cured of his jumping and barking and toileting in the house. After explaining the methods to me we did an intervention and I could see the immediate change in his behavior. Now I can have people visit my home!

It is up to us, (dog guardians) to take the time, and make the effort to spend quality time getting to know our dog companions through education, practice and patience. Knowledge, experience and developing a personal relationship with our dogs through training will build the trust that is needed for success. With a step-by-step approach, people can learn simple positive safe methods to communicate with their dogs in a way in which dogs understand.

Most of the time we keep him in his crate which is large enough for him to stand and can easily stress his legs. Only for giving him food and potty we take him out and sometimes for playing with him. Rest of the time he lives in the crate only and he is comfortable in it.”

RD did amazing work in just a couple of hours with my 1-year-old terrier on jumping up on visitors and going to his bed when told. He has a stubborn streak and just didn’t know that he needs to listen! RD will not tell you you’re raising your dog wrong or that you need to implement all kinds of new things you don’t really want to do. She’ll just give you great ideas for how to improve your relationship with your pup in ways that work for your family. She has been a miracle worker with other dogs I’ve known too. Highly, highly recommend!

The most effective way to train your dog is to use modern, science based positive reinforcement.  If you reward your dog for the behavior you want, your dog comes to understand what  is expected.  Reward based training is effective, humane , fast and fun!  Another result of this type of training is that your  dog  trusts you  and becomes a thinking, self-confident dog who learns to make good choices.  The way you train your dog determines the relationship you have with your dog.  By using the Home Dog Training Positively method, you will acquire both the knowledge and the skill to help your dog become a well behaved member of the family.

The foundation of Tarheel Canine’s Training System is an understanding of behavior and canine temperament which is explained  in Tarheel Canine’s proprietary training manual and Jerry Bradshaw’s  book, Controlled Aggression published by Lulu Press (http://www.lulu.com/content/2317473), both are provided to students with their equipment upon enrollment, as well as lectures which cover all key areas of training in the Tarheel Canine Training System.  Through extensive practical work and application of the theory we then show the student when and where to apply the use of key training equipment. This includes using leashes, training collars, long lines, reward toys, modern electronic training collars (in both low level stimulation and the Tarheel System), application of BSD™ Behavior Shaping Devices for training detector dogs for narcotics and explosives detection, how to use various sleeves and grip training equipment including bite suits for sport, Personal Protection and Police K9 Training.

I have been a fan/customer of Dog School for a few years now, and I was pleased when they started the walking service which really fits our needs.  I have had bad, bad experiences with other dog walkers in Center City in past years so I really was not trusting anyone other than these folks anyway.  This is a first rate operation that is based on the nature and needs of people and dogs alike.  They know what they are doing and they are very detail oriented, while at the same time relaxed and good humored in all their interactions with me.  So appreciate Dog School.

I know nothing of what training you do with him, how much, how often, how you go about it and so on. But obviously you’re not happy with the results you’re getting. The thing is, most labs can be trained ‘by the book’, by which I mean the common or garden methods that you read in books, or websites (like this one.) But not all dogs are the same and some dogs don’t respond as well as others. Also (and please, please don’t take offense as this is not meant that way) it may be that you aren’t using techniques, body language, signals, tone of voice and so on that he can understand or wants to respond to.

The Master Class is our most comprehensive knowledge and skill-building program covering high-level training, behavior, and total career preparation.  You will get multiple skills evaluations with a Mentor throughout this course, thereby earning you a Certified Dog Trainer title upon graduation.

Hey I have a 7 month old male lab retriever, I have tried and tried to teach him obedience but with no luck he just doesn’t do it. He is very energetic as would all puppies be, but he seems to me to have a lack of respect and basically just runs rings round me. Out walking he pulls, he runs after everything! Birds, leaves, people, dogs, any vehicle, heck even if the wind blows the grass he tries to catch it… He’s awful when someone passes, if he sees another dog he goes completely nuts and will stop at nothing to get to them.. To the point of knocking me down or biting for restraining him. I’ve tried averting his attention but that definitely doesn’t work… He knocks over the kids and pulls on their tops. He jumps up and he bits a lot, I thought this was mouthing but any time you put your hand out to pet him he tries to snap it. He has excited urination which has been a challenge to get over but we have managed that (sort of)…before we got him a read a tone of books and researched a lot on training but it’s just not worked… Is it me? I don’t believe harsh punishment works, plenty praise and plenty love and affection but when your bitten or nipped on the legs every time your back is to him, he tears into possessions and just runs a mockery I’m at my wits end! HELP!!!

You can make a start with potty training right from the very first day you bring your puppy home. In fact, it is important that you do this and that you make an effort to avoid ‘accidents’ even in those very early day.

This is an important point. Is it possible to learn to become a dog trainer without attending a school like Animal Behavior College? Yes, it is. However, without the structure or knowledge it becomes more difficult, more time-consuming and far less efficient to choose and read the literally tens of thousands of books and online materials available. Additionally, you won’t get the supervised externship from a pre-screened professional. All of these reasons are why we’ve trained more than 17,000 dog trainers over the last 18 years. You can become one of them! To learn how you can get started today, please call 800-795-3294 or fill out the form.

Don’t forget, the time between bringing your puppy home and him reaching 3 months of age is only 4 or 5 weeks. If you can possibly arrange for you or other members of the family to take a few weeks off work at this point, you will have an easier time of it.

Founded in 1998, Dog School is Philadelphia’s oldest doggie daycare and we’ve been around this long for more than a few good reasons. More than anything though, what really sets us apart is how we care about your dog like they’re our own.
