The puppy is getting overexcited. Immediately when the puppy starts to bite, stop putting the collar on and walk away. Let him calm down, then try again. You can also add a firm “No”, before you leave, which offers him the chance to calm down first. Leave plenty of time when going out, so you don’t feel pressured into giving in. Eventually, the puppy will learn the fastest way to get his collar on is to be good.

When we brought Weezer home from the shelter, he had an unfortunate habit of nipping hard enough to draw blood. This was unacceptable around my grandchildren (ages 8 months, and 4, 8 and 9 years). The nine year old lives with me, and the others visit frequently, so I called the shelter and made arrangements to return Weezer. However, I’d heard of good results with board and train, and decided to try that before giving up on Weezer. Training Tracks has been wonderful with him—no more bi…

Socializing your dog is a very important part of any training. This helps to increase your dog’s confidence and desensitize them to everyday distractions, teaching them how to behave in public. Once you’ve mastered obedience commands at home, the next step is to apply your training in a social setting, teaching your dog how to behave around many “real life” distractions. A Behavior Consultant is present to help you every step of the way at our ongoing Socializing Groups. Group obedience is an integral part of the training process—we strongly urge our clients to participate in as many sessions as possible.

End each training session by leaving the dog in a positive frame of mind. To do this, end with a task you know the dog has mastered, such as ‘sit’, so you can shower him with praise and leave him feeling good about himself.

Our instructors are student focused. We want to make sure you get what you need as an individual to be successful. Not every student needs the same teaching method either. Jerry Bradshaw, before becoming a dog trainer, was a college professor, so education is the highest calling in his opinion. Breaking down complex tasks and teaching concepts clearly is a priority. All of the instructors at Tarheel are required to teach in this way.  Our trainers keep an intensive schedule to keep students working and dogs advancing throughout the day. Each training day for students is 10 hours long M-F. Instructors work on 4 day shifts. Some M-Th, and some T-F, so students can avail themselves of a maximum amount of training time by coming all week long. Students are also welcome to come to our Tarheel Canine Protection Sports Association Club on Sunday mornings where the trainers work their own competition dogs. Students will rotate throughout the week among the instructors getting some different perspectives, and learning from a variety of experiences.

Another NEW course will  be offered this Fall/Winter; for those that have purchased an Electronic Collar; some dogs just “won’t” come back  around distractions, and for the safety of their dog, they need that extra insurance that when they call their dog, he/she “will” return!!

Many people look at a disobedient dog and only see the problem pup. They may act out in destructive behaviors. They may pull their owner down the street by their leash with the enthusiasm of a team of huskies pulling in the Iditarod. Somewhere along the line, there is a communication breakdown.

If you want to improve communication with your puppy, you can improve upon your own body language. For example, crouching down with arms opened out is a welcome sign while towering over him and staring is a sign of threat.

Many owners choose to teach their Lab more advanced and complicated commands than just those described above. These tricks come in handy when you want to play games or go to competitions with your furry friend.

Our dog training certification program is available in all 50 U.S. states and every Canadian province. We’re able to offer students in these locations hands-on training due to our growing network of pet industry professionals.

Our dog training programs are simple and effective, and focus on just a handful of commands. We teach you to have your dog lie down and stay, to come when called, to go away when told, to follow, to heel, to wait, and to jump. Using this handful of commands, we are able to shape the dog’s behaviors and habits so that being calm and submissive become the dog’s default. Once these are in place, we then focus on more involved or specific training needs. The training is faster and easier because we have already put in place a pattern of obedience and trust on or off leash.

Highly recommend Will to train your dog. He has done an amazing job with my 16 month old Great Dane! Moose has totally made a complete turn around to his unruly days! And with Will’s help I’m on my way to accomplishing a dream….Moose will start working on becoming a certified therapy dog as soon as his obedience training is over. Huge thank you!

I rescued my beautiful girl Abby seven months ago, and thanks to Canine Dimensions my boxer mix puppy is turning into a well-mannered young adult. They helped me work with her leash aggression, play biting, jumping, and all of the other traits that come with such an intelligent and energetic dog. Most importantly they taught me how to have the confidence to handle Abby in all situations. Thank you!

Nosework is a new sport where dogs are trained to find certain odors in four different elements – interiors, exteriors, vehicles and containers.  Sniffing is one of the greatest joys in a dog’s life, yet we rarely allow them to do it.  This class is a great confidence builder for dogs; offers an outlet for older and retired dogs; and provides mental stimulation for ALL dogs. Dogs will become proficient on their first target odor, and will learn how to be “odor obedient” even in the face of distractions.  The class is run seminar style where all dogs are crated when it is not their turn to work so owners will need to bring their dogs crate.

It is up to us, (dog guardians) to take the time, and make the effort to spend quality time getting to know our dog companions through education, practice and patience. Knowledge, experience and developing a personal relationship with our dogs through training will build the trust that is needed for success. Does the instructor seem to really like dogs, people, and teaching? Does she reward her students with praise and encourage them to do the same with their dogs? The last thing you and your dog need is someone who doesn’t enjoy teaching you.

There is no such thing as a robotic dog. This means that having a well-trained dog requires consistent reinforcement of commands and good behavior. It is imperative that you, as the new dog owner(s), continue to exercise your new family member daily, as well as routine obedience workouts 3-4 times a week, and always follow up on your commands. Because of the amount of training already done with our dogs, this will be relatively easy for you to accomplish. Without this maintenance of your dog’s training and behavior, the solid foundation that you started with can slip, and regression in training will occur. It is much easier to maintain your dog’s level of training than to retrain a dog once it has regressed. We will give you a solid well-trained puppy/dog, and everything you need to maintain it. On your scheduled pick-up day, you and your family will spend the day at our facility interfacing with your new best friend, learning how to work with and train your dog. Our goal is for you to acquire a high level of comfort and confidence in your skills with our K-9/handler interfacing program, and we will work with you until this is achieved. Upon completion ouvrir une entreprise individuelle this program, you will receive a certificate of completion of training for obedience, as well as all your training gear. You will receive a 6 ft leather lead, training collar, nylon choker, and light lines to continue your off-leash work. You will be taking home a high quality pup with everything done for you: crate-trained, current on vaccinations for the next year, and obedience trained; a calm, well-behaved dog ready to be integrated into your family. You can always count on us for any follow-up help or questions you may have.
