After 1 hour with RD yesterday teaching me how to control my dog we were able to go for a pleasant walk today for the first time. It is not perfect but a massive improvement and I can see that it will continue to improve with time.
Classes with Antoinette turned my 80 lb ball of energy into a gentleman…most of the time anyway. 😉 I’ve really enjoyed being able to tailor the class to focus on whatever issues we’ve been having a…nd learning agility as an outlet for his energy. See More
Happy Tails Dog School uses only positive reinforcement methods for some simple reasons: they are kind and gentle, they produce quick and reliable results that last, and you won’t jeopardize your bond with your dog or risk bringing out aggressive behaviors. I will never ask you to choke, shock, jerk, hit, punish or yell at your dog in any way. (Click here to read Lucy’s shock collar story). You will always feel good about the methods we use, I promise.

The Labrador Retriever was first bred as a fishing dog in Newfoundland. They have been referred to by many other names, like Lesser Newfoundland and St. John’s Dog. Today, it is one of the most sought-after breeds in the US, and the dogs are called Labrador or, more commonly, a Lab. A Labrador is intelligent, playful and fun-loving, but can be a little dogged when it comes to obedience! So, it is recommended that you start training your Lab from an early age, preferably when he is a little more than 12 weeks. The Labrador serves as a great companion dog and is yellow, black or golden in color. It is a breed that is most commonly trained as watch dogs and police dogs, and for the detection of narcotics and explosives. They also serve as guiding eyes for the blind. 1. Currently we are collecting his potty and urine discharge by directly placing a container beneath him as we know by now that when he is ready for discharge. The problem is that we don’t want to make this as a practice and want to find a solution to this. Whenever he is in his crate he do notify us for his nature calls and never dirty his crate except 2-3 times when we didn’t reacted to his call. We want him to also notify us when he is not in his crate and we can take him to bathroom or find a different way. We are also thinking to train him for doing it on a potty pot or a container which can be cleared by us later and will be a one time activity for us. But we are not sure if this will work out. Do you have any idea how others deal with their pets having same situation or living in a flat where the pet has limited access to go out.
The gist of all this is that the average hunter is low in dog-training skills, which is as it should be. The community of dog experts should be promoting the selective breeding of a dog that the average hunter can train and enjoy. We should not be breeding a dog with a bundle of genetically transmitted behavioral tendencies that make him difficult to train into a good working dog. The average hunter should not have to get a Ph.D. in dog training in order to come up with a dog that is pleasant to hunt with and pleasant to live with.

Many people view crating a dog as cruel and it certainly can be if done incorrectly. But after effective crate training, the crate becomes a place they love, an incredibly useful tool for you to use for the management of your dog and a place they can use to get away from things when they wish.
Hold a treat in front of pup’s nose. Slowly raise the treat over and behind his head so that when he follows it, his bottom drops to the ground. Say “Sit” immediately as this happens, and give the reward.

Understand how puppies usually learn about biting. It’s normal for puppies to bite as they develop and grow. Usually, they learn about not biting from other members of their pack, including adult dogs. Puppies learn by playing with other pack mates about when to avoid causing serious damaging through biting. If puppies don’t learn to control or stop biting, the other dogs will punish the puppy more severely, possibly by biting the puppy to cause injury.
Dog School has nothing to hide, either. Each location has a large store front window where you can witness the dogs doing their canine thing, often just being chill and loving each others company. They are all so adorable (but especially Ponyboy!!!!).

Mike was patient, knowledgeable and kind with our two giant, ill-behaved dogs. We just had a baby and he worked with us on many things such as not rushing the door when someone rings the doorbell, avoiding baby toys, and coming when called. He is a lifesaver!Melinda G.January 10 2018
Consequences must be consistent When training your dog, you-and everyone else who interacts with her-should respond the same way to things she does every time she does them. For example, if you sometimes pet your dog when she jumps up to greet you but sometimes yell at her instead, she’s bound to get confused. How can she know when it’s okay to jump up and when it’s not?
Tarheel Canine is a progressive training school, teaching the most advanced methods for pet obedience, behavior modification, Police K9s and working dogs. Our instruction is up to date, and you are exposed to numerous methods and philosophies, so you can make choices about what techniques to bring to the table to train dogs of varying temperaments, and with unique training and behavior problems. We seek to keep enrollment small in each class, so that we can deliver individualized hands on instruction and attention. You will be treated as an apprentice and fully involved in the training and business activities of the school. This includes participating in behavioral interviews with clients, training our client’s dogs, and participating in follow-up lessons and in service training. You assist in seminars when given, and there are numerous opportunities to attend special events like competitive obedience and K-9 sports trials, and special training events held with our former students around the mid-Atlantic and southern states. Our former students are available to speak with you, and in many cases, you can visit their training facilities so you can see how they have made successful careers.
At the end of class we will again ask that you keep your distance from other owners and dogs. We will guide you out of the class one at a time, please remember to keep your distance from the other students as you are leaving the building and returning to your cars.
It seems the problems with the practice of conventional veterinary medicine are going from bad to worse, and now the profit potential has big corporations buying up individual vet practices at a rapid pace.

You can do this by crating him for a few minutes, or by cuddling him in your arms. I recommend the cuddle option for the first few days, that way you can introduce the crate gradually once he has settled into his new home.
Usually if the dog is to live in a family unit, it’s best to start young as having even the smallest amount of control and manners in your puppy is important if you wish to take them places, meeting people.

We will try our best to make sure you see the same coaches each week for your classes, because we think it is important for us to get to know you and your puppy. The coaches work in teams of three, so you should get to know all the team members over your course. Occasionally there may be a change in one coach because of sickness or holidays, but if this is necessary, we will try to ensure that you are introduced to your new coach the week before the change so that they are familiar with you and your dog.
Before you actually go ahead and enroll your dog, make sure that the training school is nationally recognized. Visit the school for a day or two and watch how the trainers train other dogs. Also the trainer should be a certified dog trainer, having at least 5 to 6 years of experience.
Hold a treat in front of the pup’s nose. Keeping the treat very close to the dog, travel the treat down the dog’s brisket to the floor. In an attempt to follow the treat the pup should drop to the ground, at which point say “Down” and give him the treat.
