Keep in mind that ditching the “alpha dog” concept doesn’t mean you have to let your dog do anything she likes. It’s fine to be the boss and make the rules-but you can do that without unnecessary conflict. Be a benevolent boss, not a bully. Good leadership isn’t about dominance and power struggles. It’s about controlling your dog’s behavior by controlling her access to things she wants. YOU have the opposable thumbs that open cans of dog food, turn doorknobs and throw tennis balls! Use them to your best advantage. If your dog wants to go out, ask her to sit before you open the door. When she wants dinner, ask her to lie down to earn it. Does she want to go for a walk? If she’s jumping up on you with excitement, wait calmly until she sits. Then clip on the leash and take your walk. Your dog will happily work for everything she loves in life. She can learn to do what you want in order to earn what she wants.

Dog training is always cheaper than a lawsuit … Don’t take a chance … Dayton Dog Trainer can fix your dog!

“Come!” This one is, by far, the most important. If you see your dog running into an unsafe area, you can get them to immediately come back. This is especially important if your dog escapes and is running down the street after something that he shouldn’t. This command should be fool proof. No matter how exciting the stimulation, your dog should always drop whatever they are doing and return to you when called. (Related: Train your lab to come on cue)

My little Yorkie, Mandy, was very difficult to handle. At almost 2 years old she barked incessantly at everything. When family or friends came over she was totally out of control. The best thing that ever happened to me was contacting Tom Mancuso and learning about the Sit Means Sit dog training method. After only one week she was greatly improved. After the 3rd week, unbelievable progress. I would recommend this method to any one with dog training problems.

Both me and my dog meatloaf love dog school! As soon as meatloaf realizes that we are at dog school he jumps out of the car and runs to the door where he is greeted by the amazing staff who take such good care of him! We love seeing their pictures on instagram throughout the day and I know he is so well taken care of! He comes home and is so tired from all the fun he has there! Philly dog school is a lifesaver!
Anybody who is involved in the care of your dog is encouraged to come along to class, including children. Please bear in mind that your coaches will be talking to the class on a group level to teach you valuable key messages about behaviour, so it is important that anybody attending is able to listen quietly (if young children are attending it could be a good idea to bring something to keep them occupied with at these times). Let your coach know if you have any special requirements or will have more than 3 people attending with your dog, so that they can prepare and make sure there is enough space. To make sure you can concentrate on training your puppy, we would ask that you leave any other pets (including other dogs) at home.

One of the most frequent complaints of pet parents is that their dogs “just won’t listen.” But put yourself in your dog’s shoes for a moment. If someone was constantly chattering away in a foreign language that you’d never heard before, how long would you pay attention? Probably not for very long-because you simply wouldn’t be able to understand what the foreign speaker was trying to communicate.
Dogs older than five months can attend basic obedience classes that include hand signals and commands, according to Pawnation.com. Housebreaking, problem jumping and inappropriate barking may also be covered.
The first ten to fifteen minutes of the session are devoted to our trainers learning all about your dog. This is the time for you to discuss specific problems your dog is having. The more our trainers are able to learn, the better they can help.
To be totally honest, I drool over working dogs. I have always been a sucker for Border Collies and I may have been sold on the program just with the first siting of Jimmy’s dog Dolly. Even so, I sat through the demo with awe as Dolly and Tea worked. And then to make it really cemented in my mind that this was what I wanted for Thunder, Jimmy had me put a collar on my boy and we worked him with the start of “come.” I had only had Thunder for a week at this point and he didn’t even know his own name but Jimmy showed me how to get him to focus on me and do what I asked. So we signed up. After a couple of lessons, Jimmy asked me if I was interested in becoming a trainer and working for him. I didn’t have any real experience with dog training, but prior to adopting Thunder, I had been considering learning how to train dogs. It seemed rather perfect that Jimmy should ask me this. I mulled it over for a little while before agreeing, but I’m truly glad that I did. I have continued with Thunder’s training and have applied my knowledge to train my foster dog. I also look forward to training my own demo dog and working with clients to help them have a positive relationship with their own pups.
1. Currently we are collecting his potty and urine discharge by directly placing a container beneath him as we know by now that when he is ready for discharge. The problem is that we don’t want to make this as a practice and want to find a solution to this. Whenever he is in his crate he do notify us for his nature calls and never dirty his crate except 2-3 times when we didn’t reacted to his call. We want him to also notify us when he is not in his crate and we can take him to bathroom or find a different way. We are also thinking to train him for doing it on a potty pot or a container which can be cleared by us later and will be a one time activity for us. But we are not sure if this will work out. Do you have any idea how others deal with their pets having same situation or living in a flat where the pet has limited access to go out.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of animal trainers in the United States will grow by 15 percent between 2012 and 2020, faster than the average growth for all occupations. The BLS expects that demand for animal care services will grow over the next several years, and that job prospects will be good for animal care workers such as dog trainers.
