Labrador Retrievers respond best to positive, non violent, reward based training methods. All they require are some guidelines and boundaries to be set in order to become well respected and trusted members of society. Your Lab will do his/her best for you when training, there’s no need for harsh “yank n crank” type training methods. They thrive on the physical and mental stimulation which obedience training provides – plus it is time spent with you which is a bonus.

We know learning requires applying what you’ve studied in a real-life work environment. This is why we provide you not only textbooks, but other materials needed to work with animals as well. Materials, such as instructional videos, veterinary assistant scrubs and a 40-piece grooming toolkit, are all included in your tuition.

If you decide to use treats in your training, remember that Labs have a tendency to become overweight. Use the smallest treats possible to reward behavior, and be sure to reduce the amount of food you’re giving at meal times or increase exercise to compensate for the treats.

Two commands which are very vulnerable to distraction are ‘recall’ or the come command,  and ‘heelwork’ or teaching your dog not to pull.  Many dog owners find that their dog’s recall is great until another dog appears over the horizon.

Admission is restricted to those who have satisfactorily completed a Beginner class and received recommendation from the Instructor to attend OR have approval of the Training Director. Dogs will remain in this class until they have received recommendation from the Intermediate Instructor to move on to the Competitive Class or Novice Rally.  Canine Good Citizen tests will be scheduled for the week following the last week of class for an additional fee of $10 for members and $20 for non-members.

You don’t expect a child to act all grown up, eating only what they’re supposed to, playing with only their toys, staying exactly where you ask them to and listening intently to your every word doing exactly as they’re told.

My wife and I have lived in Alaska for over 40 years. We own and maintain a home in Alaska, but now spend more than 180 days outside of the State. We are not trying to qualify for our P.F.D. We want to continue being residents though. What are the requirements to maintain residency in Alaska?

To help your dog know when barking is acceptable, you simply need to teach him that he may bark until he is told to stop. “Stop barking” should be considered as a command for obedience rather than a telling off.

The most common mistake people make is to stop reinforcing the behaviors they like.  It is easy to ignore the obedient dog, to forget to give him a tasty reward from time to time when he flies back to a toot on your whistle.

RD is amazing! Seriously, best dog trainer I’ve ever worked with! And there has been a few. When my girlfriend told me she booked an appointment for our dog troubles I was skeptical, to say the least…. She arrived on time, she introduced herself and got immediately to work. I have a German Shepherd that has aggression issues and a few others. We put our dog in his kennel prior to her arrival. She asked us to exit the room so there were no extra energies (fear from us) present. Within five minutes our dog had silenced his disapproval of her presence in ‘his’ house and she invited us back into the room. To our amazement, our dog was out of his kennel, and leashed by her side. This was shocking! I never would’ve believed it if I wasn’t there as a witness. She diagnosed our dog, showed us how to work him past his issues and take control of our household again. Her rates are affordable, she’s incredibly intelligent and a downright cool person to work with. I highly, highly, highly recommend giving her a chance to earn your business! You won’t regret it. The Labrador is the breed I most commonly work with, and I am alarmed at the trends I see. It has become the general custom to force-fetch train every dog. This corrects any tendency to drop birds, mouth birds or run off to the bushes with birds. It also masks the genetic tendencies toward those behaviors.

I give food twice- once in the morning and one at Lunch. Both time the Female very fast in eating and very eager and it is very excited when it see the food and try to grab from hand. Both understand the names.

By sticking to your training, being consistent and sticking to routines…and that’s key…he will eventually come out of growing pains and adolescence into an adult dog with ingrained training and learning that he will settle into and hopefully be a well mannered, well-behaved joy for you to marvel at and enjoy for the best part or more of another decade.

“As the Supervisor / Trainer for NASA K-9 unit, I came to you when I was searching for Explosive dogs to start our unit.  K9 Sultan and K9 Quick graduated your Explosives Detection School and became the first two dogs for NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.  You did an outstanding job.  K9 Sultan has tremendous drive and is always excited to work. We have purchased four more dogs from you and we couldn’t be happier with all of them. When we purchase http://rentabilisermapassion.org/french/faire-de-largent-en-ligne-gratuitement-au-canada-_les-affaires-grandissent-queensland-pty-ltd/ K9, you’ll be the first person we call. I graduated from the instructor school as well and highly recommend that if you are a supervisor/trainer you get the formal education from Tarheel Canine to keep your unit challenged and running smoothly.”
