2.  They do take the dogs on walks for potty breaks but the dogs also can go on the floor at daycare.  I was also concerned about my pooch peeing on the floor and thinking he can do that when he comes home.  Definitely not the case.  No issues whatsoever.

Our positive dog training methods are pain-free, treat-free, and clicker-free. We DO NOT use shock collars, spray collars or pronged collars. If you decide to use treats in your training, remember that Labs have a tendency to become overweight. Use the smallest treats possible to reward behavior, and be sure to reduce the amount of food you’re giving at meal times or increase exercise to compensate for the treats.

I bought this book to share with the pre schoolers in my life after we got a golden retriever puppy. The kids really enjoyed Tinka’s story and the colorful pictures that accompany it. Reading the kindle version on my iPad worked out well and it was fantastic I could have a copy across platforms (cell phone, iPad, computer) without lugging a physical book around since “Tinka” has been so popular. We have even read it to the puppy!

Unfortunately, in spite of good intentions, many times the dog will suffer and the owner will lose out on a first class relationship with their dog. Why? Because the owner didn’t take the time to learn how and why the Ohio State K-9 College is superior to other schools.

Getting a new puppy to live with an elderly dog can sometimes be good, sometimes be bad. It’s a lot like asking 80 year old grandparents to live with a toddler: Some will get all cantankerous, short-fused and hate the child, others will get a new lease of life, perk up and ‘feel young again’. Sometimes the elderly dog can retreat a bit and not want anything to do with the puppy, sometimes a ‘parenting instinct’ can kick in and they kind of adopt it. It depends a lot on the elderly dogs personality.

Picked up this book on sale from Amazon for my 2 year old niece. She loves this book (albeit not as much as her Hello Kitty tea party book) and is beginning to attempt to read some words! It does keep her attention for a little and I’d like to say she picks it up once or twice a day to look through it.

“The best decision I could have made for my new career. Within weeks of graduation I was offered a management position at a local dog day care. I also just accepted an internship at a well known dog shelter. I am part of the behavioral team, doing assessments and training for the shelter dogs. These opportunities have endless possibilities. I am looking forward to welcoming new clients soon.” – Jenny H., Master Class Graduate

It sounds like your wife and son are regarded differently by the dog. You need to figure out what it is that’s being done differently, and then correct this. For example, do your wife or son squeal when the dog mouths them (which makes them sound like squeaky toys and is very exciting to the Sprocker). Do you and the older son have deep voices and are firmer with the pup? Who walks the dog? Who feeds the dog? You need a root and branch review of the management of the dog so that everyone plays an equal part and is equally respected by the dog.

Labrador Retrievers are high energy dogs which is what makes them such great pets for active families. But if Labs aren’t given sufficient exercise, they can quickly become bored. This often leads to destructive behavior and other common behavior problems, such as barking, chewing, and digging. Plan on giving your Lab an hour or more of exercise each day. Most Labs love long walks or a game of fetch. These are the perfect way to burn off your Lab’s energy.

Use these training tasks as you integrate the puppy into your life. For example, ask your puppy to “sit” prior to receiving her food, “sit” before you let her in or out the door, and “sit” before you pet her. These are times when your puppy wants something and is more likely to comply. In this way, you are training your dog all the time, throughout the day and also establishing predictable rules and routines for interactions and helping the dog to learn who controls the resources. Training your puppy prior to getting each requested necessity, helps to prevent problems. Having your puppy sit before getting a food or treat prevents begging, while teaching your dog to sit before opening the door can prevent jumping up or running out the door. Be creative. The time you spend training your puppy now will pay off when you have an adult dog. To have a well-trained dog, you need to be committedto reinforcing the training tasks on nearly a daily basis for the first year of your puppy’s life. The more you teach and supervise your puppy, the less opportunity it will have to engage in improper behaviors. Dogs do not train themselves, when left to choose their behavior they will act like dogs.
