“basic obedience classes +golden retriever puppy training”

I. Love. Dog School. Our pup, Ponyboy, has been with Dog School for almost a year, beginning at the Pine Street location and now at this location. And there is no doubt that Dog School’s services, and general awesomeness, have immeasurably enhanced our family’s life.

Although she’s not a puppy, if you follow the advice given above then you should see an improvement. You might also want to consider have a session with a professional behaviorist to see if they can suggest anything specific that might help. Best wishes, Lucy.

RD came highly recommended from a fellow golden retriever owner who raved about her experience! RD had a way with my dog, an instant respect was formed. She is kind, knowledgeable and very patient which was very important to me as I love my dog like a child! We worked on sit, stay, kitchen manners and techniques for walking and the come command. Prices are very reasonable and lessons easy to follow. Looking forward to her next visit. Would highly recommend and have several times already and everyone has been just as happy!

SNAKECHECK: If you would like to check your dog AFTER being trained, you are welcome to do a SNAKECHECK by walking your dog past one of the desert habitat snake cages. SNAKECHECKS can only be done on Friday mornings, and do not involve dressing (equipment) or training of your dog. Cost of a SNAKECHECK is $50. This fee is to cover your beingescorted by a staff member. If your dog fails the check, and you wish to have them trained at the same time, there will be an additional charge of $50. This is to cover us having to dress (place equipment on your dog) and then run them a second time.

Dog training is a tremendously rewarding career. One should remember first of all that, for the most part, training is a “service” profession and that one is usually working with people who happen to have dogs. In other words, you are working with animals but you are primarily working with people.

We probably need to look back to England for solutions. They still have the same field trials they had 80 years ago, still selectively breed for major traits and still get rid of dogs that lack a cooperative nature and predisposition toward trainability.

If you plan to train your Labrador puppy (or older dog!) yourself at home, I’d recommend you follow this comprehensive Labrador training tool – Dog Training Membership Site. It’s a fantastic community to be involved in.

I HAVE A 7 MONTH OLD CAVACHON (CROSS KING CHARLES SPANIEL AND BICHON FRISE). HE IS FINE AT HOME BUT WHEN WE ARE OUT AND WANT TO LET HIM OF THE LEAD IT IS STARTING TO BECOME A NIGHTMARE. IF HE SEES A BIRD HE RUNS OFF AND THERE IS NO WAY OF GETTING HIM BACK! MUCH THE SAME WITH ANOTHER DOG, PERSON, BUTTERFLY, ANYTHING THAT MOVES! ITS LIKE HE IS IN HIS OWN LITTLE WORLD AND WE DONT EXIST. I’M AT THE POINT NOW WHERE I CANNOT LET HIM OFF THE LEAD AS I AM AFRAID OF LOSING HIM, CAN YOU HELP?

This training made the world of difference with our skittish rescue dog, Gemma. She’s gained great confidence and even a year later, her training is still on point. Our friends are always impressed with how well behaved our dog is, and it’s made her agility training progress faster. Our lives with our canine companion is much more enriching.

The whole process is incredibly well run-the ability to buy passes and make reservations online could not be more convenient. They have long hours to accommodate all work schedules and we have never had a situation where they did not have space for Abbey even on short notice.

Secondly, is the crate the right size? if too large a dog may use one end as a toilet and the other to sleep in. It needs to be just big enough to stand without hitting her head, turn around in easily and lay down paws stretched out…but no bigger.

If your toddler was repeatedly sticking her fingers into open electrical outlets, what would you do? Would you sit her down and try to explain why that’s not a good idea? Would you smack her every time she did it? Nope, you’d probably buy some outlet covers. Voilà! Problem solved. Prevention is sometimes the best solution. When training a dog, the easiest way to deal with a behavior problem might be to simply prevent the undesired behavior from happening. If your dog raids the kitchen trash can, you could spend weeks training a perfect down-stay in another room-or you could move the trash can to a place where your dog can’t get to it. Prevention is also important if you’re trying to train your dog to do one thing instead of another. For example, if you want to house train your dog, she’ll learn fastest if you use a crate to prevent her from making mistakes inside while you focus on training her to eliminate outside.

RD was absolutely fabulous with my dog Goose (and I). Within an hour of time together she had helped correct unwanted behavior and life was looking soooo much less stressful again! The plus side was that she taught us how to communicate, consider our energy and no treats were needed!  We are going to work together again to master a few more challenges.

We would like to formally welcome you, to a new First Class approach in pet care and training service.  This school has been designed to create a greater feeling of purpose for our pups (with our structured ability to challenge and reward) and more peace of mind for our parents (with our persistence of keeping in touch.)  We look forward to a great time in class with your dogs.  Contact us for more information on enrollment.

Don’t forget, the time between bringing your puppy home and him reaching 3 months of age is only 4 or 5 weeks. If you can possibly arrange for you or other members of the family to take a few weeks off work at this point, you will have an easier time of it.

Consider putting her in a crate when you leave the house. If you don’t like crates, then consider a playpen. To train her to stop, when she bites you, pull her away and firmly say no. Don’t scare or punish her though. Just make sure she knows it is not okay.

If you decide to use treats in your training, remember that Labs have a tendency to become overweight. Use the smallest treats possible to reward behavior, and be sure to reduce the amount of food you’re giving at meal times or increase exercise to compensate for the treats.

First, teach ‘sit’ or ‘down’. Then work on having the dog stay in this position for a few seconds before giving the reward. As he waits say “Stay”. Gradually increase the time he stays sitting, until he can do this for a full minute. Then take one step away and then return to his side and reward him. Slowly build up the distance separating you in order to strengthen the stay.

  1. While dog trainers can earn as little as $7.76 an hour up to as much as $29.59 an hour, Animal Behavior College estimates the average wage at $20 an hour, as of 2010. However, some trainers earn upward of $150 an hour – especially those with a great deal of experience and in certain areas of the country.
Yes! Please feel free to contact your coach between classes if you would like further support or have any questions. The best way of getting in touch is via email so that your coach has the time to give your response their full attention. Your coach will advise you on the best course of action. They should be able to provide you with some basic advice that you can put in place straight away and may recommend a 1-1 session if you require more in depth behavioural or training support.
As a retired teacher and school librarian, I love this book. It has good and easy rhyming schemes for the young reader, a challenged reader, and anyone. I have used it many times before. One of my grandchildren is 3 years old and is usually not as interested in books as his older brother, but “Cool Dog, School Dog” was a hit for the 3 year old. Thank You.
