We loved seeing the educational training videos shot live, watching David work magic in a matter of moments with two of our shelter dogs. All positive training! Highly recommend as in 5 stars!Gisella M.
Some types of proofing can be carried out in training classes, but many classes take place indoors and as such are of limited value for proofing. Much better for many types of proofing are gundog training classes which take place outdoors and involve other dogs, and people in a real life environment.
If your toddler was repeatedly sticking her fingers into open electrical outlets, what would you do? Would you sit her down and try to explain why that’s not a good idea? Would you smack her every time she did it? Nope, you’d probably buy some outlet covers. Voilà! Problem solved. Prevention is sometimes the best solution. When training a dog, the easiest way to deal with a behavior problem might be to simply prevent the undesired behavior from happening. If your dog raids the kitchen trash can, you could spend weeks training a perfect down-stay in another room-or you could move the trash can to a place where your dog can’t get to it. Prevention is also important if you’re trying to train your dog to do one thing instead of another. For example, if you want to house train your dog, she’ll learn fastest if you use a crate to prevent her from making mistakes inside while you focus on training her to eliminate outside.
Snow day today! Due to impending inclement weather conditions, all classes and appointments are cancelled for Saturday, Dec. 11, 2017. We will resume regular schedule on Monday. Be safe and keep yourselves and those furry family members nice and warm!
All dogs are not the same, so we vary our approach based on each dog’s personality and temperament and what will work for that dog. We also vary the dog behavior training to suit the family’s specific needs and lifestyle, the dog’s environment and what YOU do or don’t want from your dog.
Blanka is studying for a Diploma in Advanced Canine Behaviour with the British College of Canine Studies. She is passionate about animal welfare and her experience of working in an animal re-homing centre has shown her how too many dogs need re-homing due to avoidable issues. She volunteered for the Dogs Trust Dogs Schools in Bristol and Dorset before joining the Dorset team as Coach, and is enthusiastic about sharing how the right approach can make a positive difference to the life of dogs and their families.
Our training classes are aimed at giving you information and skills that you can apply to your puppy’s behaviour in any situation. If you have an existing issue that would require help with please contact your local coach and describe the problems you are having. It may be possible for us to help you in a class setting, or it may be that your coach will recommend a 1-1 session with a trainer or behaviourist. We will aim to give you the advice that we believe will be of the greatest benefit to you and your dog. In some cases, the class environment may not be the most suitable for your dog, in which case we will always strive to offer an alternative plan of action!
While your Labrador may have learned to sit beautifully in your kitchen, when you try and show off his new skill in your neighbour’s kitchen or whilst waiting outside school for your kids to emerge, your dog will probably stand there wagging his tail and looking stupid.
Once your dog begins to recognize you as the leader, it is important to let him know what kind of behavior is expected of him. So, pat your pup whenever he does something good and ignore his tantrums. Praise your Lab whenever he obeys your commands and executes them well, or does something to make you happy. This will encourage him and in the long run, he will be more devoted to you. Also, when your dog makes mistakes, you should be patient. Punishing him will take you nowhere and will only result in your Lab turning aggressive.
I have a 3 year old Australian Shepherd rescue who is true to his breed- very hyper and smart. We were having issues with his anxiety (he won’t let the vet touch him) and his energy (aggressively herds other dogs at parks much to their annoyance). Within a minute of meeting my dog, RD notice he was itching his ears, so she went over and cleaned them. I was speechless, as our dog barely lets me or my boyfriend touch his ears, let alone strangers. RD has an amazing natural ability with dogs and you can see their immediate respect of her.

While dog trainers can earn as little as $7.76 an hour up to as much as $29.59 an hour, Animal Behavior College estimates the average wage at $20 an hour, as of 2010. However, some trainers earn upward of $150 an hour – especially those with a great deal of experience and in certain areas of the country.
Dayton Dog Trainer is Dayton’s premier, in-home dog trainer! We offer many dog training services in all of Montgomery County and surrounding areas. No matter your location … our trainers will travel anywhere in the world. As you will find … most of the training centers out there, want you to come to them. Not only do we offer group classes, but we also come to you for in-home dog obedience training and behavior issues, including aggression. We have even heard of dogs being booted from one of those training programs, because they failed to conform … which makes no sense to us considering the trainer of those establishments are supposed to help your dog become obedient. We receive many calls from clients who have already been through a training program, that didn’t work out.
The responsibility to be a good canine citizen does not lie at the feet of the dog. It rests on the shoulders of their owners. Almost 100% of the time a dog creates havoc in someone’s life – unless that dog has some neurological impairment – the underlying cause of behavioral problems is their owner’s lack of participation in their training, socialization, and exercise requirements.
All we can say is “Thank God for Mike”! He has turned Zoey around with the training techniques and in turn calmed our household down. We could not be more pleased with how the training has turned out, we actually saw a difference after the first session. I would highly recommend Mike to anyone who is in desperate need of the training.
This board & train program is our most popular option, and is focused on training your dog for you, and then teaching you how to follow through. We have been offering this for 20 years, and thousands of dogs have succussfully completed this program.
Once he’s got it, place the less tasty treat on the floor… but don’t completely cover it with your hand. Instead hold it a little bit above the treat. Over time, gradually move your hand farther and farther away until your hand is about 6 inches above.

Many other owners have no trouble getting their dog to walk nicely on a lead in the garden, but find themselves dragged of their feet within minutes of leaving the garden gate or whenever a passerby approaches.
