“crate training a lab puppy -dog training equipment”

He is 2 years old and white in colour. How do I train him, what type of food do I feed him, is he an outside dog, can he be a guard dog? and will he be able to get on with my cats? I had a chow chow he was an amazing dog with the most beautiful nature, loving and adorable. I had to put him to sleep because he had very bad arthritis in the spine and he was 14 year old. I still pine for him as I loved him very much. Many Thanks

We begin with an in-home evaluation to assess your dog and their unique situation. This allows our Behavior Consultants to pinpoint the source of behavior problems and work accordingly. Our training philosophy demands that owners gain the knowledge to strengthen the bond with their dog through leadership and training, as well as the theories and methods to understand, solve and prevent behavior problems.

A Master Trainer with 30+ years of experience, who is an expert at teaching dog owners how to handle and care for their dog properly, therefore, enabling each dog owner to reach full potential with their dog.

The first dog training session will take about 2-3 hours. Following the first session you will continue to build the right relationship between you and your dog by practicing for 10-15 minutes a day. This will reinforce your dog’s newly learned behavior.

Love, love The Dog School. I know most the reviewers work from 9-5 and worry about their energetic pup at home. I would also consider it if you are at home or work at home as I do and it is too hot, cold, rainy or you are simply physically unable to give your energetic friend the exercise he craves (I’m 8 months pregnant so that’s me!) . My dog is a 16 month old golden doodle with lots of energy and after spending the day at the dog school yesterday he is still happy and calm from spending 9 hours getting his energy out. You don’t need an appointment either, just drop your pup off when he is driving you nuts and you are set!

Because we are a working training facility, the number of dogs coming in from Europe on a monthly basis provides you with an opportunity to see a vast number of dogs, with different strengths and weaknesses. The strengths need amplification, and the weaknesses need training. Varying temperaments, from hard to softer dogs, highly driven and motivated, you learn to critique, classify, and prepare remediation plans many times and then implement the training on these dogs, before you go out on your own. Pet dog training occurs in the same way as the working dogs. Clients drop off dogs for training and do a comprehensive behavioral questionnaire which then is discussed with the students by the trainer so a proper plan of action can be devised. Each dog is started immediately on the Training System plan, training records are kept, and students instructed in both the theory and application of the Tarheel Canine Training System.

Working with your dog to obeying your commands opens up a line of communication between you and your dog. Consistently communicate with your dog what you want it to do and reward it when he listens to you.

Most trainers also offer packages, where you get a small discount for committing to a package of four or 10 rather than just one lesson. This is a desirable option if you have several behavioral issues that need to be worked on.

So 5 stars for a conveniently located place with convenient hours, super awesome staff and facility…and ESPECIALLY for the crazy, happy, and exhausted puppy that I get to pick up every Wednesday evening- he sleeps like a rock when he gets home. 🙂

Admission is restricted to those who have satisfactorily completed a Beginner class and received recommendation from the Instructor to attend OR have approval of the Training Director. Dogs will remain in this class until they have received recommendation from the Intermediate Instructor to move on to the Competitive Class or Novice Rally.  Canine Good Citizen tests will be scheduled for the week following the last week of class for an additional fee of $10 for members and $20 for non-members.

Also, she looks to me as her main caregiver (literally follows me everywhere)… do you have any tips on ways I could introduce the puppies to her? I’m expecting she will have some initial feelings of resentment towards them and be territorial since she has been the only dog we have had, so I’d like to try aid this transition as best I can. Although in the end I feel like a lot of it will be them feeling each other out. Any other advice you could give on this situation would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!

  1. Camp combines behavior conditioning, food-reward training and socialization, in a structured setting. We use food-reward conditioning to engage attention, establish patterns and teach dogs to “DO what’s RIGHT”.
Labradors love to play and can be quite energetic, both as puppies and adult dogs. They aim to please their owner and surrounding members of the family. They need lots of exercise to continue to be happy and healthy animals. Being intelligent beyond that of most dogs, they are one of the best breeds to have with children in the home. To keep having an obedient Labrador, it’s time to start puppy training. The initial part of Lab puppy training involves getting into the daily swing of things. Knowing where his food and water dishes are is a great place to start. Following that will be learning when he eats, when and where he sleeps, puppy potty training and what toys belong to him, and not you. Also needed is clarity in what is expected of your Labrador, and what is not acceptable. It is very important to use clear and concise commands. Before  dog training starts, you have to consider the training method you intend to use. This method needs to be consistent, so making the decision is one that requires some research. Many professional animal trainers use what’s called positive reinforcement. This philosophy believes that animals are much better behaved and easier to train when they’re earning rewards and praise than if they’re being punished. Punishment and negative reinforcement training has actually been proven to cause aggression and unwanted behaviors. One common tool used in positive reinforcement training is the clicker.  It’s a small hand held device which makes a clicking sound when pressed.  It can be found at most pet supply stores for a couple bucks.  The purpose of the clicker is to mark the correct behavior with a sound.  More info on clicker training. It’s more consistent than a word or phrase from the owner and faster which means it’s easier for your dog to understand when they’ve performed the correct behavior.  Follow the click with a reward, like a tasty treat, and you’re off to a great start.
