PreSchool-Grade 2—Tinka, a golden retriever, is “a joy dog,/a boy’s dog,/a chews-a-brand-new-toy dog.” She loves her boy and doesn’t like being left at home when he boards a bus on a fall morning. When Mom isn’t looking, the “spring-and-sprint-and-streak dog” races to school, runs through the halls causing mayhem, and ends up finding her boy in his classroom. Although she makes the teacher unhappy by messing up the room, the students are delighted by Tinka’s presence and find that the pup loves a read-aloud. In the end, she’s “a please-come-every-day dog.” Bowers’s vivid acrylic illustrations are full of expression, from the pup peeking through a screen door while waiting to make her move to the smiling children and teacher waving good-bye at the end of the day. Youngsters will like learning with each turn of the page just what makes this dog so special.—Adrienne Wilson, Edith Wheeler Memorial Library, Monroe, CT END –This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I can only suggest you please speak to a vet immediately and ask them their advice so you can provide the right care.

My husband and I highly recommend Training Tracks! We initially met Jeff through a local animal shelter and then started in-home training sessions with our first dog for some behavioral problems. Both Jeff and Mel are incredible trainers and are very personable. Their positive-reinforcement approach is very rewarding for both the person and the dog. When we got our second dog we continued with basic training classes at the West Chester location and were very happy with those as well. I would rec…

Training curriculae is relative to the amount of work each dog requires, the level of instructor needed and the follow-up each client will need. All programs have a minimum training period, and require follow-up classes. In some cases, depending on the scenario, we may require private lessons in order to ensure the behaviors are addressed in home as well.

A puppy will eat what they like, when they like. Go where they can, when they can. Play with and chew on everything in sight whether it’s theirs or not. And they will not be able to listen to and act on your every word.

Mike was very open to answering questions, Roxey acted much better immediately after training. I am thankful that this is not food motivated training because that doesn’t work for us. Mike is very knowledgeable, which is important for my husband and I. He is great with follow up also. If I have friends that want training I will recommend Bark Busters because I think they are dog friendly, some companies bribe dogs or use aggressive human behavior to scare dogs into submission, I love that Bark Busters uses doggy education.

It sounds like your wife and son are regarded differently by the dog. You need to figure out what it is that’s being done differently, and then correct this. For example, do your wife or son squeal when the dog mouths them (which makes them sound like squeaky toys and is very exciting to the Sprocker). Do you and the older son have deep voices and are firmer with the pup? Who walks the dog? Who feeds the dog? You need a root and branch review of the management of the dog so that everyone plays an equal part and is equally respected by the dog.

The version of the vaccine must cover the H3N2 strain.  If your dog has never had this vaccine, please note that it is administered in 2 doses, 3 – 5 weeks apart.  After that, they should get an annual booster.

  1. When duck hunting, wait until you have several ducks on the water before you send your pup to retrieve. Unless wind or current is carrying off the ducks, it won’t hurt them to float for a half hour. If you are shooting doves, pick up the short, easy ones yourself. Let your pup sit for 10-15 minutes before he is sent for the difficult retrieves. The exception, of course, is the crippled bird, for which you must send the pup quickly to reduce the odds of escape.
