Dogs are pack animals. They are genetically geared to work with others – be it other dogs or humans. However, they need leadership and boundaries if they’re to be truly happy. Part of being a responsible owner is to realize your dog requires more from you than just food, water, and the occasional walk.
Our most extensive and popular program, the 24-week Master Trainer Programs is designed to give you all of the knowledge and experience to be a true competitor in the dog training industry. Our Master Dog Trainer Program is only offered during our Winter and Summer semesters and is VA approved.
One of the biggest threats to the health of your Labrador Retriever Puppy is actually controlled by you. Labradors that are overfed or allowed to become overweight are opened up to a wide range of potential health problems. It’s crucial to keep your Lab active, healthy and fit through a proper diet and daily exercise – they love to chase a ball!

Your puppy needs to learn that people around http://rentabilisermapassion.org/cultiver-des-affaires-com-comment-demarrer-une-entreprise-avicole-rentable-au-nigeria/ particularly small children, can be a bit unpredictable. But he needs to accept that their unpredictable behavior is not threatening. You can help him do this by imitating a child’s behavior. Try stepping quickly towards his bowl — then drop in a treat. Gently bump into him, while he’s eating, or roll toys nearby — anything to cause a distraction, but drop a treat in the bowl to reward him for continuing to eat calmly. Do this every so often, but not at every meal. If your puppy freezes mid-mouthful, growls or glares at you, stop and try again another time. If this continues, it’s best to seek advice from a veterinary behaviorist or certified dog trainer.

Picked up this book on sale from Amazon for my 2 year old niece. She loves this book (albeit not as much as her Hello Kitty tea party book) and is beginning to attempt to read some words! It does keep her attention for a little and I’d like to say she picks it up once or twice a day to look through it.
No matter how accomplished your instructor, always remember that your dog relies on you for his safety and well-being. If you are uncomfortable about doing something you’re told to do, explain your concerns and ask for an alternative approach. In addition, be cautious about who you allow to handle your dog. Many obedience instructors like to demonstrate techniques with dogs in their classes, and most of the time there’s no problem. But if you have any reservations about allowing an instructor to take your dog from you, just say you’d rather not. And if you are uncomfortable about the instructor’s knowledge, attitude, or methods, find a new class. Again, even if you walk away from part of the cost of the class, that’s better than damaging your dog’s trust in you and other people.
When what you’re doing just isn’t working, a trainer can provide fresh eyes to help you find a new solution. For example, if your 2-year-old dog still jumps despite all your efforts, a new trainer may help.

Hey I have a 7 month old male lab retriever, I have tried and tried to teach him obedience but with no luck he just doesn’t do it. He is very energetic as would all puppies be, but he seems to me to have a lack of respect and basically just runs rings round me. Out walking he pulls, he runs after everything! Birds, leaves, people, dogs, any vehicle, heck even if the wind blows the grass he tries to catch it… He’s awful when someone passes, if he sees another dog he goes completely nuts and will stop at nothing to get to them.. To the point of knocking me down or biting for restraining him. I’ve tried averting his attention but that definitely doesn’t work… He knocks over the kids and pulls on their tops. He jumps up and he bits a lot, I thought this was mouthing but any time you put your hand out to pet him he tries to snap it. He has excited urination which has been a challenge to get over but we have managed that (sort of)…before we got him a read a tone of books and researched a lot on training but it’s just not worked… Is it me? I don’t believe harsh punishment works, plenty praise and plenty love and affection but when your bitten or nipped on the legs every time your back is to him, he tears into possessions and just runs a mockery I’m at my wits end! HELP!!!
“This was the best experience. Excellent instructors, well-rounded curriculum, science-based learning. CATCH gave me education on ALL aspects of training and usage of many behavior modification options.”
Puppies want to please. Reward-based training methods are effective because when a puppy does good, he is praised. This makes him keen to repeat the behavior, in order to get more adoration (or a treat or a game with a toy). This is especially true for Labradors, who are very loving dogs that thrive on the approval of their owners.
We believe in positive, gentle training, and we show you how to establish clear, effective communication with your dog. Pet dog training should use positive reinforcement methods. We include exercises and games to promote learning and to make class sessions enjoyable. We incorporate three basic principles in our program: establishing a good relationship between you and your dog, practicing appropriate management techniques, and training behaviors you want your dog to exhibit.
We needed personalized, in-home training for our 2 female dogs who fought with each other and who needed to be prepared for the arrival of a baby. We got help with these issues and so much more. Throu…
They often make a good job of teaching the skill at home and then are very upset when the dog’s obedience falls apart in public. What they are essentially doing is attempting the ‘challenge’ method, but usually without any effective form of punishment.
Because we are a working training facility, the number of dogs coming in from Europe on a monthly basis provides you with an opportunity to see a vast number of dogs, with different strengths and weaknesses. The strengths need amplification, and the weaknesses need training. Varying temperaments, from hard to softer dogs, highly driven and motivated, you learn to critique, classify, and prepare remediation plans many times and then implement the training on these dogs, before you go out on your own. Pet dog training occurs in the same way as the working dogs. Clients drop off dogs for training and do a comprehensive behavioral questionnaire which then is discussed with the students by the trainer so a proper plan of action can be devised. Each dog is started immediately on the Training System plan, training records are kept, and students instructed in both the theory and application of the Tarheel Canine Training System.
Tuition must be paid at the beginning of each week your dog attends school. We recommend that you commit to bringing your dog the same day(s) of each week. This way, we customize our lessons to meet the dogs’ needs. Consistency is the key to success.
