You do not necessarily need to train in a set session daily. Rather, integrate these tasks throughout the day. A goal to strive for is at least 15 minutes of training every day. These can be short 5 minute sessions spread throughout the day. Try to have all family members ask your puppy to do these tasks. Remember to try to train in every room of your house. You want your puppy to “sit,” “lie down,” and “stay” everywhere, not just in the training location. Practice in all locations you would like your puppy to behave and feel comfortable and relaxed in the future.
Your dog is taught and rewarded for desirable behavior, increasing his likelihood of repeating it. R+ training is reward-based, not punishment-based. You’ll learn how to gain your dog’s cooperation without choke chains, prong collars, shock collars, or leash corrections. The result is a dog that obeys with enthusiasm, not fear.

Through extensive practical work and application of the theory we then show the student when and where to apply the use of key training equipment. This includes using leashes, training collars, long lines, reward toys, modern electronic training collars (in both low level stimulation and the Tarheel System), application of BSD™ Behavior Shaping Devices for training detector dogs for narcotics and explosives detection, how to use various sleeves and grip training equipment including bite suits for sport, Personal Protection and Police K9 Training.

Matt Misco, 11 and his sister Lily, 6 have a very different lifestyle than most of their peers. Matt’s family believe in letting him roam in a “Free Range” style. The Miscos live off the land and use a wood burning stove for cooking and for heating their home. Because Matt has not had as much exposure to peers and has a whole different frame of references, his peers make him the target of taunting. School is especially challenging for the boy.

We have even heard of dogs being booted from one of those training programs, because they failed to conform … which makes no sense to us considering the trainer of those establishments are supposed to help your dog become obedient. Teaching your dog to reliably follow your commands is almost as important as giving them adequate food, shelter and water. It’s a necessary skill that they must develop for us to live in harmony together.
We will try our best to make sure you see the same coaches each week for your classes, because we think it is important for us to get to know you and your puppy. The coaches work in teams of three, so you should get to know all the team members over your course. Occasionally there may be a change in one coach because of sickness or holidays, but if this is necessary, we will try to ensure that you are introduced to your new coach the week before the change so that they are familiar with you and your dog.
Beyond independent study, dog trainers can further their training by completing a course with a school that educates trainers, or by taking on an apprenticeship with an experienced trainer. The Association of Professional Dog Trainers(APDT) does not endorse any specific schools, but recommends finding a training program that thoroughly explores the history of dog training as well as principles of animal learning and dog behavior. Programs that teach trainers how to design classes, create instructional materials, and work with clients can be beneficial as well.
