At Dogs Trust we have a mission; we want every dog to lead a happy life free from the threat from unnecessary destruction. It means that a lot of our work is caring for dogs at our rehoming centres – dogs that need a second chance in life. But it also means addressing the root causes of problems. Every year we receive thousands of calls from people asking us to take their dogs into our rehoming centres, and the biggest single reason they give is because of the dog’s behaviour. So to address this problem, we’ve created Dogs Trust Dog School.
Admission is restricted to those who have satisfactorily completed a Beginner class and received recommendation from the Instructor to attend OR have approval of the Training Director. Dogs will remain in this class until they have received recommendation from the Advanced Beginner Instructor to move on to the Intermediate class.
Our most extensive and popular program, the 24-week Master Trainer Programs is designed to give you all of the knowledge and experience to be a true competitor in the dog training industry. Our Master Dog Trainer Program is only offered during our Winter and Summer semesters and is VA approved.
I have rescued a 1 year old lab with NO training. She jumps, BAD, and she cannot walk on a leash and isn’t housetrained. Any suggestions? I love her personality and she has already adjusted to my children (except for the jumping)! Any suggestions on training an older puppy would be nice.
This can be one of the more difficult commands in dog obedience training. Why? Because the position is a submissive posture. You can help by keeping training positive and relaxed, particularly with fearful or anxious dogs.
Likely the most comprehensive training available, the School for Dog Trainers is offered by Highland Canine Training, LLC. Our School for Dog Trainers will teach you progressive and innovative methods of effectively training both dogs and people to make your dog training career successful.
Ian discusses how we should learn to see the world from our dogs perspective and in doing so, how we can better earn their love and trust. Armed with this love and trust, we will form a better relationship and as a result, effective training becomes just that much more effective and enjoyable for both you and your dog.
June and Colin were fabulous! Loads of information to absorb and utilize. I need to get busy! The initial presentation was easy to follow and well explained to me. I scheduled 4 additional meetings during my Naples stay. So thankful I called them!!
Many people look at a disobedient dog and only see the problem pup. They may act out in destructive behaviors. They may pull their owner down the street by their leash with the enthusiasm of a team of huskies pulling in the Iditarod. Somewhere along the line, there is a communication breakdown.
After you decide on some new skills you’d like to teach your dog, you’ll be ready to start training. To maximize her learning potential and make sure you both enjoy the training experience, keep the following basic tips in mind:
“I liked that they offered a hands-on externship, business management and safety. I also appreciated that I could take much of the program online, which was great for out-of-state convenience.” – Katie Hicks
While dog trainers can earn as little as $7.76 an hour up to as much as $29.59 an hour, Animal Behavior College estimates the average wage at $20 an hour, as of 2010. I have a 6th month male lab & 8yr old. My 6th month does not get the message to go to the door to bark or cry that he needs to go out to potty. I am the one trained to keep putting him out to go. How do you train them to bark to go out? I have not tried a bell yet. Also he will poop in my dining room when he needs to go & sometimes pee. Can’t seem to get it across to him. I tried letting him smell the poop, swat on butt & tell him no he is bad. That was a waste of time, did it the next day. Help
Of course, the formalités création sarl is going to make a heap of mistakes… only he won’t know he’s done wrong unless you tell him. However, harsh punishment is completely inappropriate. Instead, guide your puppy by saying “No!” in a firm voice, or “Uh-oh”, when he makes a mistake. This helps him understand that the decision he just made was not a good one. Then when he gets praise for doing the right thing, he learns to think through situations and select the appropriate action.
Due to the Horrific Storm over in the Phlippin’s and surrounding areas….a couple of the Maranatha dogs (Cadaver trained) had a opportunity to go over and assist in the recovery efforts…to the Left:…is Patella, owned by Jim Houck they made three trips over and was able to assist through www.globaldirt.org
Training curriculae is relative to the amount of work each dog requires, the level of instructor needed and the follow-up each client will need. All programs have a minimum training period, and require follow-up classes. In some cases, depending on the scenario, we may require private lessons in order to ensure the behaviors are addressed in home as well.
I ask because my son is a drummer and it can be quite loud even for me when he rehearses. I certainly don’t want to make our new rescue lab nervous or fearful because the drums are part of living in our household. Thanks!
You’ll also learn how you can get LIVE access to the kind of elite vets and expert trainers normally reserved for only very wealthy dog owners… our experts have appeared on Radio and TV shows such as Dr. Marty Becker’s “Top Vets Talk Pets” and even trained dogs (charging fees of up to $250 per hour) for NBA and NFL super stars, billionaire entrepreneurs and famous singers.
The cost of dog training varies by location, and also depends on whether training is one-on-one or group classes, and whether it is at a facility or in-home. Pet stores and non-specialized trainers cost between $70-150 for a multi-week beginner-training group class. Private training averages $60-70 per session. For dogs with aggression issues, private training costs may increase to $90-100 per session.

He is crazy for food, and become restless at exact time of his food time. Now he is 4 months old and all his initial 3 vaccinations has been done. He weighs 20 Kgs now and is healthy. He becomes hyper active when he sees or meets children. I have to keep a close watch and a tight hold on his leash whenever he is around children.
The puppy has the bladder he has, and you cannot influence that. What you can do is make it easy for him to be clean, by taking him outside to his toilet area very early in the morning, and even in the middle of the night , if that is what he needs.
