End each training session by leaving the dog in a positive frame of mind. To do this, end with a task you know the dog has mastered, such as ‘sit’, so you can shower him with praise and leave him feeling good about himself.
Camp combines behavior conditioning, food-reward training and socialization, in a structured setting. We use food-reward conditioning to engage attention, establish patterns and teach dogs to “DO what’s RIGHT”.
This can be one of the more difficult commands in dog obedience training. Why? Because the position is a submissive posture. You can help by keeping training positive and relaxed, particularly with fearful or anxious dogs.
This is because they may well have been given plenty of experiences in the past where they were highly rewarded for disobedience, usually simply because the owner did not know how to control the consequences of the dog’s behavior.
Hi! We have a Labrador puppy which we got it recently and he will be going 8 weeks this coming April 20, 2015. We have a problem about his biting habit. Can you please help us on what to do to this kind of habit because it’s somewhat disturbing to all of us at home. From the pants we wear, long skirts, and even to our legs, he likes to bite. We have already bought him a toy and bone chew for him to bite instead of other things, but still he kept on biting. Thank you very much in advance for helping.
Imagine your dog being calm, peaceful, happy, friendly and obedient – without treats or a prong collar or an e-collar. Imagine your dog walking peacefully next to or behind you as you walk down a crowded street with people, traffic, and even other dogs and animals passing by. No lunging, pulling or troublemaking. Imagine your dog lying peacefully by your side as you enjoy a meal at an outdoor cafe while strangers pass all around. Yes … your dog!
Treats — Hot dogs sliced into penny-sized thin portions, Bil-Jac (frozen dog food), Rollover (or other sausage shaped rolls available at pet stores) sliced or cubed, chunk or string cheese cubed or sliced into thin portions, cheerios, toys, or anything that will turn your dog on!
If you’d like to enjoy the benefits of a step-by-step guide to follow, that details on video every step a professional trainer takes while raising a puppy from 8 weeks through to 1 year old, there’s a course we recommend.
Of course not! Just imagine the house disaster you put yourself into when you let loose an untrained dog. That is right! You need to train your Labrador next after all the cuddling and provisions you provide him. Good news is these dogs are excellent in training in obedience and you will be amazed on how obedient your Labradors are.
PreSchool-Grade 2—Tinka, a golden retriever, is “a joy dog,/a boy’s dog,/a chews-a-brand-new-toy dog.” She loves her boy and doesn’t like being left at home when he boards a bus on a fall morning. When Mom isn’t looking, the “spring-and-sprint-and-streak dog” races to school, runs through the halls causing mayhem, and ends up finding her boy in his classroom. Although she makes the teacher unhappy by messing up the room, the students are delighted by Tinka’s presence and find that the pup loves a read-aloud. In the end, she’s “a please-come-every-day dog.” Bowers’s vivid acrylic illustrations are full of expression, from the pup peeking through a screen door while waiting to make her move to the smiling children and teacher waving good-bye at the end of the day. Youngsters will like learning with each turn of the page just what makes this dog so special.—Adrienne Wilson, Edith Wheeler Memorial Library, Monroe, CT END –This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
Doggy day care is the best way to make sure your dog stays active while you’re at work. Instead of just taking a bathroom break at lunch, they can spend all day wrestling with friends, chasing balls, and practicing sprints. No couch potatoes here!
Spring of 2015 ….3 of our Pups (3 different litters) were picked up to be future working dogs for the Pennsylvania Game Commission….they are much older now and also trained to actually be working cases…..you can also follow them on the The Game commission Website
Is your dog or puppy in need of Behavior Modification … or is it just a dog being a dog? If it is behavior problems, then what should you do, how do you fix them, is it too late? Dog Behavior Modification, can mean a variety of things. This can include, but is not limited to dog aggression, dog fear and dog anxiety, along with many other things.
Repeat it every day. If your dog tries to sit up or lunges toward your hand, say “No” and take your hand away. Don’t push him into a down position, and encourage every step your dog takes toward the right position. After all, he’s working hard to figure it out!
Both me and my dog meatloaf love dog school! As soon as meatloaf realizes that we are at dog school he jumps out of the car and runs to the door where he is greeted by the amazing staff who take such good care of him! We love seeing their pictures on instagram throughout the day and I know he is so well taken care of! He comes home and is so tired from all the fun he has there! Philly dog school is a lifesaver!

But in all seriousness, training isn’t a one and done thing, it’s an ongoing process. And growing up and during adolescence, dogs go through stages where they seem to forget everything, stages where they kick up against the rules to see what they can get away with, explore and do things they know they shouldn’t, basically all the things that you and I did (and most dogs and animals do) as a part of growing up.
I have a 3 month old Black lab. When we try to put a leash on him he just wants to bite it, and hold it in his mouth. Is he too young for leash training? We have a couple of acres and he has not been on a leash before. Any tips?
Small pieces of food or a favored toy can be used to motivate your puppy to perform most tasks. Provided the reward is sufficiently appealing, the puppy can be prompted to give the desired response by showing the puppy the reward, giving a command, and moving the reward to get the desired response. For example, food held up over the puppy’s nose and moved slowly backwards should get a ‘sit’ response; food drawn down to the floor should get a ‘down’ response; food brought back up should get a ‘stand’ response; food held out at a chambre des metiers micro entreprise should get a ‘come’ response; and food held at your thigh as you walk should get the puppy to ‘heel or ‘follow’. By pairing a command phrase or word with each action, and giving the reward for each appropriate response, the puppy should soon learn the meaning of each command.

Along with my cat, Village gave me a good deal of insight on how to communicate with clients and how to successfully run a kennel. I was also introduced to a myriad of dogs, young, old, trained, untrained, hyper, and super mellow. This exposure to so many dogs really helped me to define what traits I prefer in a dog and in May of 2017, I adopted my first dog (as an adult), Thunder. Thunder is an adult German Shepherd who is goofy and tends to over think things when he’s excited. Adopting him changed my life in more ways than I could explain. I grew up with a twelve pound chihuahua/pug mix, so adopting a 114# GSD was certainly a huge difference. I wasn’t prepared to manage such a large dog and I quickly found out that he is as strong as an ox. Before I knew it, Thunder was bolting out of doors and hauling me around when on a leash. My roommates told me the only way he could continue living with us was if I got him under control. I recalled seeing a Sit Means Sit booth at Village’s annual pet fair back in April and decided to look up the number on Google. I got in contact with Jimmy and we set up a free demo.
