The dog is taught to ‘sit’ in fairly undemanding conditions  (a quiet back yard for example)  then taken into much more distracting and tempting conditions where his obedience is deliberately ‘challenged’.

Many people can’t imagine life without dogs. We admire and adore them for their loyalty, unconditional affection, playful exuberance and zest for life. Nevertheless, dogs and people are very different animals. Although officially “man’s best friend,” dogs have some innocent but irksome tendencies-like jumping up to greet, barking, digging and chewing-that can make it downright difficult to live with them! To make the most of your relationship with your dog, you need to teach her some important skills that will help her live harmoniously in a human household.

Since 1997, Canine Dimensions certified in-home dog trainers have been helping “out of control” dogs become polite and well mannered. We train your dog in your home, for fast results. We are recommended by veterinarians, animal shelters, breeders, rescues and by both of the nation’s top dog training associations – the Association of Professional Dog Trainers and the International Association of Canine Professionals.

Imagine teaching your dog basic skills: sit, down, come, stay, and loose leash walking in a beautiful and fun setting. We will address problem behaviors like jumping up, leash pulling, and play biting to make your dog a good family member. Our positive, reward-based program is a great bonding experience for you and your dog under the lovely shady trees at Plantation Heritage Park. We incorporate games and fun contests during class, too! Join us on Saturday mornings for more fun than humans should be allowed! Class times, required registration forms, and more information are available at Oh Behave.

The young pup looks to you for guidance. Never punish him either physically or with a harsh scolding as this will make him fearful of you. Old-fashioned training methods relied on dominating the dog, but we now know dogs trained this way obeyed out of fear rather than thinking through what’s wanted and obeying to please you.

Raising a well-trained dog is not hard but it does require time and patience so make sure you are ready for this undertaking. We offer solid, useful and helpful tips on every aspect of handling dogs from housebreaking puppies and basic obedience to cairng for older dogs and treating various coats. To proof training you must ‘set up’ relevant situations where you can control the outcome of your dog’s behaviour.  To proof your dog’s recall in the presence of ‘other dogs’  you will need to teach him to obey your recall whilst other dogs are present in controlled conditions.

The American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen (AKC CGC) certification is recognized as a high standard of dog behavior and is an excellent way to prepare for therapy dog training. This training class prepares you and your dog to take the AKC CGC test as well as improve on behaviors already learned.

Your puppy needs to learn that people around him, particularly small children, can be a bit unpredictable. But he needs to accept that their unpredictable behavior is not threatening. You can help him do this by imitating a child’s behavior. Try stepping quickly towards his bowl — then drop in a treat. Gently bump into him, while he’s eating, or roll toys nearby — anything to cause a distraction, but drop a treat in the bowl to reward him for continuing to eat calmly. Do this every so often, but not at every meal. If your puppy freezes mid-mouthful, growls or glares at you, stop and try again another time. If this continues, it’s best to seek advice from a veterinary behaviorist or certified dog trainer.

The curriculum for the Dog Obedience Instructor Training Program is broken down into 11 stages that cover topics ranging from basic study of canines to business building tips. Each stage equips you with the knowledge and dog training skills necessary to advance to the externship portion of the dog training program. In stage 10, you can apply everything you’ve learned throughout your dog training course in a real-life setting.

Start by saying “Come”, whenever the pup happens to cross the room towards you. Give him a reward. Also, make a game of running away from the pup, which will trigger him to chase after you. As he runs to you say “Come” and reward him when he gets there.

First, teach ‘sit’ or ‘down’. Then work on having the dog stay in this position for a few seconds before giving the reward. As he waits say “Stay”. Gradually increase the time he stays sitting, until he can do this for a full minute. Then take one step away and then return to his side and reward him. Slowly build up the distance separating you in order to strengthen the stay.

Hi I have a ten month chocolate lab. He is totally thick, house trained yes, will sit in front of food until told he may have it but as far as anything else he has no idea. He forgets to stop when running and hits wall or anything that gets in way, will not heal at all on lead, always looking for food on work tops including cooker of which he can turn on the gas so we have to turn gas off at mains if leaving him. Tried to get him to give pour now for months but still has no idea. Should I give in and actsept him as he is. He is after all grill with kids.???

She was professional, affordable and generous of her time and wisdom. Dita is a better dog, and we are better parents because of RD’s guidance. I would recommend her to anyone! She is incredibly  easy to work with and great at what she does.

Does the instructor communicate well? Does she listen carefully and respond clearly? Does she offer help when someone has trouble getting a dog to respond? Can she get her own dog and the dogs in her class to do what she wants without resorting to extreme measures?

Does Lucky love the company of other dogs? Does she enjoy play with young dogs and puppies? If yes then I’d say go for it. If not, it might be a better idea to hold off. Is there a way you can test this by having her spend time with another puppy? This could be a good idea.

Once your dog consistently moves away from the first treat and gives you eye contact when you say the command, you’re ready to take it up a notch. For this, use two different treats — one that’s just all right and one that’s a particularly good smelling and tasty favorite for your pup.

RD has been a huge help in just the first couple of times meeting with her! Our dog, Dempsey, has needed to work on over-excitedly greeting people as well as with leash pulling and frustration. We’ve …already seen some major improvements and have been given the tools to continue on this positive trend. RD is great at being a calm, helpful presence as she explains what is going through your dogs mind and how to use this to your advantage. We still need to work on the homework that she gives us at the end of each session, but I know we will continue to see improvements week to week both in training sessions as well as in daily life. I cannot say enough great things about Dog School. My husband and I have very hectic schedules and a very energetic dog so this place is a lifesaver. Before dog school, we didn’t think that our dog Abbey was capable of being tired out-even after multiple long trips to the dog park. We could not have been more wrong-Abbey is all smiles and can hardly stay awake when we get her home.

Pet owners can ask to sit in on a dog obedience training session to see if it’s right for their dogs. When they feel comfortable with the trainer and notice other pet owners enjoying the training class, they will have a better idea of how their money will be spent.

Dog owners who take the time to train their dogs aren’t named as defendants in lawsuits because their dog bit someone. They aren’t paying medical bills of someone who crashed their car swerving to avoiding their dog in the street.

Excellent course at Dogs Trust, Nevendon, Essex, that Alfie the Brave balked at attending. But the instructors were fabulous. Kind, patient, and explaining everything clearly. Thanks a million. Worth …every penny and then some xx See More

Picture this: You are excited about bringing home a new Labrador puppy. You set his bed and place him something delicious to grub on. After that, you cuddle him, tickle his furry tummy and let him run loose around the house. But, wait. What happens then after you let him loose?

Everyone is so nice and friendly happy and you can tell that they all love animals and what they’re doing. My Reggie is very shy and a bit nervous around new things and people he did great with them. Theses students are getting a top notch education in grooming and it shows.

Even small breed puppies can cause damage. Do not ignore puppy biting when you have a small breed dog by thinking that it does not matter because they are small. Large or small, this behavior needs to be stopped early on. This will prevent even more serious biting later on.

Most of the time we keep him in his crate which is large enough for him to stand and can easily stress his legs. Only for giving him food and potty we take him out and sometimes for playing with him. Rest of the time he lives in the crate only and he is comfortable in it.”

After 1 hour with RD yesterday teaching me how to control my dog we were able to go for a pleasant walk today for the first time. It is not perfect but a massive improvement and I can see that it will continue to improve with time.
