Submissive dogs and some breeds such as Labradors often open their mouths in a kind of lop-sided “grin”, and indeed, it is a sign of friendliness. But when lips are drawn back tightly to bare the teeth, that’s aggression, make no mistake.

Don’t forget, the time between bringing your puppy home and him reaching 3 months of age is only 4 or 5 weeks. If you can possibly arrange for you or other members of the family to take a few weeks off work at this point, you will have an easier time of it.
I have a 10 month old large breed puppy. (70 lb) Unfortunately during the crucial puppy training period I had shoulder surgery. This led to some unwanted behavior like jumping and pulling on the lea…sh.
Holiday Camp is for clients that need boarding but would like a little training. It is perfect for clients that have previously trained with us. We can refresh your dogs training, and do a little socialization at the same time.
Not only will you be taught by instructors that are knowledgeable in the dog training industry, you will have the opportunity to learn from those who continue to operate a successful, multifaceted dog training business. Our trainers continue to train dogs of all types, from aggressive pet dogs to police, military and service dogs on a daily basis.
There is no such thing as a robotic dog. This means that having a well-trained dog requires consistent reinforcement of commands and good behavior. It is imperative that you, as the new dog owner(s), continue to exercise your new family member daily, as well as routine obedience workouts 3-4 times a week, and always follow up on your commands. Because of the amount of training already done with our dogs, this will be relatively easy for you to accomplish. Without this maintenance of your dog’s training and behavior, the solid foundation that you started with can slip, and regression in training will occur. It is much easier to maintain your dog’s level of training than to retrain a dog once it has regressed. We will give you a solid well-trained puppy/dog, and everything you need to maintain it. On your scheduled pick-up day, you and your family will spend the day at our facility interfacing with your new best friend, learning how to work with and train your dog. Our goal is for you to acquire a high level of comfort and confidence in your skills with our K-9/handler interfacing program, and we will work with you until this is achieved. Upon completion of this program, you will receive a certificate of completion of training for obedience, as well as all your training gear. You will receive a 6 ft leather lead, training collar, nylon choker, and light lines to continue your off-leash work. You will be taking home a high quality pup with everything done for you: crate-trained, current on vaccinations for the next year, and obedience trained; a calm, well-behaved dog ready to be integrated into your family. All you have to do is keep up with your pup’s preventative health care (monthly heartworm and flea/tick treatments, yearly vaccinations) and maintain and strengthen the foundation that we built for you. These pups are sold with Limited AKC registration only. They are not to be bred. We highly recommend getting your pup spayed or neutered between 44 and 50 weeks of age. You can always count on us for any follow-up help or questions you may have. If you would like to fly your puppy back home after interfacing with us in Wisconsin, we recommend United Airlines via Chicago/O’Hare (www.united.com, Petsafe program). Additional costs would apply.
Every dog has a different personality and temperament—our programs are specialized to fit you and your dog’s individual needs with private one-on-one training sessions in your home. This highly effective approach allows us to address problems directly in your dog’s own environment where behavior problems often occur or begin, catching inconsistencies early in the training process. You will not only learn how to train your dog, but also how your dog learns and thinks.
I’ve loads of advice, yes. Everything on this site basically! So, carry on http://rentabilisermapassion.org/comment-faire-croitre-les-affaires-comptables-_la-verite-creative-demarrer-et-construire-une-entreprise-de-conception-rentable/ what you seem to be doing which is reading and learning as much as you can – on this site and many others you can find by Googling – and then putting into practice as much as you can. And of course love and enjoy time with your new family member 🙂
I brought my 8 week old puppy to Training Tracks at the recommendation of my vet. I was a new dog owner, terrified and annoyed and wondering if my hyperactive, mouthy puppy was normal. The folks at TrainingTracks helped me and my dog transform from a newbie pair to a happy team! I was so pleased with our experience in the puppy class that I returned again and again for more advanced training classes, and now my dog is a Canine Good Citizen and works as a therapy dog in my psychotherapy practice.…

Some days we have conflicting schedules that would leave our little guy by himself for 4 or 5 hours. We knew we needed to find him a doggie day care that he could play at while we were busy. Miles does not do well in the crate, so we needed some place that didn’t do any “crate/quiet time”. After talking with some of the fur-mommies and fur-daddies at our local dog park about their recommendations, we were excited to give Dog School a try.
Secondly, is the crate the right size? if too large a dog may use one end as a toilet and the other to sleep in. It needs to be just big enough to stand without hitting her head, turn around in easily and lay down paws stretched out…but no bigger.
“In the initial session of approximately 1 1/2 hours: a.Rachel educated us on the underlying causes of our dogs unwanted behavior (aggressive greeting of guests to our home, fighting to be first out the door, excessive barking and ignoring our calls to come); and b.worked with us and our dogs leaving us with clear direction and tools to address the issues. I personally have had success beyond expectation with the tools she provided my husband and I to direct the desired behavior of our Miniature Schnauzer adolescent dog and Yorkshire Terrier puppy. We and our dogs are appreciative for her attention. I recommend her services without reserve!”
The foundation of Tarheel Canine’s Training System is an understanding of behavior and canine temperament which is explained in Tarheel Canine’s proprietary training manual and Jerry Bradshaw’s book, Controlled Aggression published by Lulu Press (http://www.lulu.com/content/2317473), both are provided to students with their equipment upon enrollment, as well as lectures which cover all key areas of training in the Tarheel Canine Training System. Through extensive practical work and application of the theory we then show the student when and where to apply the use of key training equipment. This includes using leashes, training collars, long lines, reward toys, modern electronic training collars (in both low level stimulation and the Tarheel System), application of BSD™ Behavior Shaping Devices for training detector dogs for narcotics and explosives detection, how to use various sleeves and grip training equipment including bite suits for sport, Personal Protection and Police K9 Training.
Pet owners who are novices at training can begin a training program with these few simple steps. It takes repetition, time and perseverance for the puppy to predictably and reliably respond to commands in a variety of situations. Consider only classes that use positive training techniques.
In our Basic Obedience Class, we will teach your dog voice and hand commands. You begin with two – once a week 1/2 hour private sessions. Next, you and your dog attend two – once a week – small group classes and then you join a large group class which meets once a week for 3 months.
Raising a well-trained dog is not hard but it does require time and patience so make sure you are ready for this undertaking. We offer solid, useful and helpful tips on every aspect of handling dogs from housebreaking puppies and basic obedience to cairng for older dogs and treating various coats. Recently the pet industry has exploded with products and services that range from simple leashes and collars to dog spas and high end fashion accessories that can make any owner dizzy with information and advice. We eliminate the clutter and confusion by providing straight forward, honest and practical tips on how to raise a well behaved, obedient and healthy dog.
Jumping up, pulling on the lead, biting, mouthing, nipping, inappropriate toileting, aggression towards dogs, food aggression, aggression towards family members, pack aggression, stranger aggression, fear aggression, inattentiveness (dogs that won’t listen), poor recall (dogs that won’t come back when called), destructive behaviors, chasing cats, squirrels, horses and livestock, over exuberance, nuisance barking, crying, yelping, howling, separation anxiety, digging, escaping, chewing, hyperactivity, item obsession, phobias or general disobedience.
Musings about dogs and a look inside the world of dog day care, from humans who spend more time with puppies than people. Of course, we let some of the dogs write guest posts every now and then, so you get their perspective too. It’s only fair.
Giving in to your puppy’s every need is not a good thing. As your puppy grows, so will his need to assert himself. Puppies often choose mealtimes as a battleground. But giving in to him is a mistake. You need to make sure he knows that you won’t respond to his every demand.
Another great benefit is that they never ever crate the dogs for “nap” time. I don’t know about you, but my dog can nap plenty at home. When I take him to dog school, I know he is going to have 100% fun for 100% of the day!
If I could persuade the average gundog owner to do one thing better as a trainer, it would be to spotlight obedience and emphasize the non-retrieve. The non-retrieve is when the pup sees a bird or dummy fall but doesn’t get to retrieve it. The trainer or another dog retrieves it while the pup watches.

Please bring the following to each class: your dog’s bed/blanket, a selection of your dog’s favourite treats and one or two of his/her favourite toys. If your dog requires any medication or has a specialised diet, please bring these to class – it’s also important to get in touch with your coach to let them know about this before the class as well.
But if you live out in the country, kennel your dogs outside and are fine with them just running free for a few months, they will soon catch up with the early starters and leaving them to mature before starting will not mean they cannot succeed in training.
As a first time dog owner with a high-energy puppy, I had/have A LOT to learn – Mel has been an invaluable resource in getting both pup and owner on the right track! We did both private sessions and the Basic Obedience class and can’t wait to do another class in the future! Not only did we learn basic commands, but I was able to find a way to deal with my pup’s crazy energy that used to come out in lots of jumping/puppy nipping/attention-seeking as well as how to help teach him impulse-control (…
