We take a young dog and give him hundreds of retrieves with no restraint. For the first thousand retrieves, we encourage the dog to take off at will after the falling dummy. Then, after we have him well trained to break, we change the rules and decide comment creer societe make him steady—which requires a certain amount of punishment to counteract the breaking behavior we have just trained.

We probably need to look back to England for solutions. They still have the same field trials they had 80 years ago, still selectively breed for major traits and still get rid of dogs that lack a cooperative nature and predisposition toward trainability.

It is important to be consistent when training your Labrador. This implies that you should stick to one word commands and follow the same set of hand signals while training. Also follow a routine for the purpose. For example, you can train him for an hour a day, three days a week. This makes it easy for him to grasp things quickly and respond to your commands. Also, it is essential to make the learning process fun for your Lab by taking breaks in between training, and by rewarding obedience from your pup, with his favorite treat.

Nosework is a new sport where dogs are trained to find certain odors in four different elements – interiors, exteriors, vehicles and containers.  Sniffing is one of the greatest joys in a dog’s life, yet we rarely allow them to do it.  This class is a great confidence builder for dogs; offers an outlet for older and retired dogs; and provides mental stimulation for ALL dogs. Dogs will become proficient on their first target odor, and will learn how to be “odor obedient” even in the face of distractions.  The class is run seminar style where all dogs are crated when it is not their turn to work so owners will need to bring their dogs crate.
