Many Labrador Retrievers are happiest and the most well-behaved when they have a job to do. Consider getting involved with a dog sport or training you Lab as a pet therapy dog. Keeping your Lab busy and active is sure to keep one of those famous Lab smiles on his face.

Any retrieving dog is bred to put everything possible it can in their mouth. And they love picking up rocks. Each time you catch your dog with a rock in its mouth, you can teach it “Drop”, which will come in handy with a multitude of things later. Also, don’t worry to much about him getting sick. Unless it’s a giant rock, or something toxic, dogs bellys are really acidic and can break down pretty much anything. And if they don’t you’re more than likely to just see it in their poop.

We have also used the dog walking service and loved it. It’s super easy to set up and the walkers were trustworthy, prompt, and never skimped on time. I highly recommend both the daycare and the dog walking!

In order to keep your Lab happy, it is important to channel its stamina and high energy levels into lots of fun activities. So, you can come up with innovative ways for your Labrador to have fun. Labradors love to play and they’ll be more than willing to indulge in various activities including swimming. Yes! Labradors love water and teaching your Lab how to swim, can be an enjoyable experience for both, you and your pup.

Now that I’ve experienced other dog daycares I love Dog School even more.  In our new home, Austin TX, many of the dog daycares used crates for a large portion of the day.  I loved the fact that she could run around free at Dog School all day if she wanted to.  We miss this place!!!

Tuition must be paid at the beginning of each week your dog attends school. We recommend that you commit to bringing your dog the same day(s) of each week. This way, we customize our lessons to meet the dogs’ needs. Consistency is the key to success.

I. Love. Dog School. Our pup, Ponyboy, has been with Dog School for almost a year, beginning at the Pine Street location and now at this location. And there is no doubt that Dog School’s services, and general awesomeness, have immeasurably enhanced our family’s life.

– Please note we DO NOT address aggression related issues in-home. If your dog is aggressive you will need to bring them in for an evaluation. Our insurance policy does not allow us to enter your home if your dog shows agression. If an instructor encounters aggression during an in-home lesson, they are required to stop and leave, and you will be billed for the full amount of the lesson.

Training Tracks did wonders for our energetic blue heeler mix. She went from a timid, excitable puppy to a well-behaved dog with confidence. Mel and Jeff taught us how to bring out the best in our dog. We had no idea how much potential she had! As owners, we were taught how to solve behavior problems by breaking down training into mini-steps. Our dog absolutely loved the classes, and we’re not sure who learned more, she or us!

Hi Pippa. Have a 5 minth old lab. Read all tge awesome posts. Pup was introduced to “his spot” on day one. We take him out very frequently, as he “rings bell” on bk door. Sometimes WAY to often, ie twice in half hour, to wee. Even often, he aways does go wee. Sometines, regardless of how frequent, he starts going on way to the “spot “. 1st, my husband feels hes being spiteful, because “he knows where his spot is”, is he? 2nd, how can we stop him from going “on the way”, and wait to get to the spot.

Hello!  My name is Julie Davis, manager of the Columbia, SC office of Dog Training in Your Home!  I’ve been with the company since 2004, and have loved every minute of it! Being able to help so many families reach their dog training goals with our in home dog training programs in Columbia SC has been a fantastic experience.  Whether it is a new puppy that needs housebreaking, play biting issues, helping the kids interact well, a shy dog become more confident, or aggression issues, it is so rewarding when we can help a dog adjust.  You can’t beat the feeling of saving a dog from going to or going back to a shelter.

Does the instructor have experience teaching obedience classes? Long experience isn’t necessarily a sign of knowledge or good teaching skills, but your instructor should have some experience either teaching a class or assisting another instructor.

1. During initial meet and greet you drop off your dog and stay with them while they meet other dogs and check out the space.  I was very nervous because all the dogs were much bigger than him but they were very friendly.  Since there wasn’t any type of psychological test to prove my dog isn’t batshit crazy, I inquired how they know if other dogs aren’t batshit crazy.  Safety first people!  Basically, they can tell almost immediately if a dog isn’t going to work out by body language etc and they keep an eye on the dogs the entire time which put me at ease.  It also makes sense that it would not be in their best interest to keep a dog that is unpredictable.

My husband and I highly recommend Training Tracks! We initially met Jeff through a local animal shelter and then started in-home training sessions with our first dog for some behavioral problems. Both…

Responsible dog owners have control, and in having control they and their dog actually have more freedom. You can take your canine companion more places. The dog gets a much richer life accompanying you on wonderful adventures because they know how to behave in public.

This means starting with a well behaved ‘assistant dog’  sitting quietly on a lead,  and progressing in gradual stages to recalling your dog away whilst he is actually playing or interacting in some other way,  with another dog.

They often make a good job of teaching the skill at home and then are very upset when the dog’s obedience falls apart in public.  What they are essentially doing is attempting the ‘challenge’  method,  but usually without any effective form of punishment.

Summer comes and it is so hot we can’t do some of the outside activities with our dog that we usually do.  We don’t have our dog training classes during the summer months here due to the heat.  No one wants to be out in the heat, and certainly our dogs who wear fur…

Reward good behavior. Always praise good behavior with lots of gentle love and cuddles. Use rewards effectively to reinforce good behavior. For example, if your dog successfully responds to your request to drop a toy, say, “yes!,” or “good boy!” Verbal rewards work well when you’re playing and may have your hands full of toys.[8]

During doggy daycare at Dog School, pets play in harmony with as few restrictions as possible. Dogs are never forced to sleep in crates unless they want to. Little dogs can play with big dogs if they like. The staff—all trained in pet first aid and CPR—attentively watches over the laissez-faire playground, tending to each animal’s needs and taking dogs on walks alone or in pairs.
