Labradors have a very special and unique temperament, one that sets them apart from all other breeds. It’s the reason they are so highly regarded as a family companion dog, some would say they are the perfect all-round family dog.
We can drop him off as early as 7:30 and pick him up as late as 7. This is convenient for us for our crazy work schedules but also gives Ponyboy a good amount of time to get the wiggles out and be a kid. Ponyboy lives the life all day (Dog School posts pics on Facebook and Twitter throughout the day) and he comes home tuckered out. We are grateful that he is 1) getting plenty of exercise in school fooling around with others dogs and his favorite toy, the big purple ball, 2) is taken on a midday walk and 3) clocking sufficient networking time with other dogs…how else is he going to climb the social and professional ladder? And there is the added benefit that, even on days we do not take Ponyboy to the dog park, he is not bored and has completely stopped any destructive behavior in the house since starting at Dog School.
This fun and interactive workshop is suitable for all levels – puppy owners who are just starting out can learn the basics in a safe, secure and supervised environment, whilst owners whose dogs have already had some practice will be able to try loose lead walking out in with some extra distractions and get tips from the team!
If you comfort your puppy whenever he whines, it may actually make things worse. It will make your puppy think he’s being praised for whining, and get him into the habit of repeating it for your affection.
Since 1982, Holzinger Kennels has developed an award winning, World class training program that can be fully customized to your hunting and obedience needs. We train all breeds on game bird retrieval, including Pointers, Flushers, Labs and Retrievers.
Just these five simple commands can help keep your dog safer and improve your communication with him. It’s well worth the investment of your time and effort. Remember, the process takes time, so only start a dog obedience training session if you’re in the right mindset to practice calm-assertive energy and patience.

For nearly four years, I learned not only how to handle dogs, but also a good deal of information about how to care for a dog throughout their entire life. I then took that knowledge and expanded it after being hired as a full time employee at Village Veterinary Medical Center in Farragut. I also expanded my furry family by adopting an owner surrendered, mostly blind Cornish Rex cat that I named Wisp. I sometimes think she’s a dog in a cat body because she fetches and definetly understands what it means when I change my tone of voice or use body language with her.
“We believe strongly in the mission of Bark Busters: “to prevent needless return or euthanasia of dogs for dog behavioral issues. We love the concepts behind educating dogs and their owners and come with a skill set suited to work effectively with people and dogs.”
Ruth has a background in domestic animal rescue, helping to rehabilitate and train dogs so that they could find their forever homes. Working with rescue dogs has given Ruth the opportunity to learn a lot about different breeds and the many different personalities our canine friends have. Ruth started off Dog School life as a volunteer for the Dorset team and was quickly snapped up when the opportunity arose for Senior Coach.
There is a normal, natural fear period that begins around 14 to 16 weeks. During this period, a puppy may become wary and suspicious of new people, species or experiences. This is a normal adaptive process. Watch your puppy closely for signs of fear (cowering, urinating, and refusal of food treats). Avoid pushing or overwhelming your puppy during this developmental stage.
They did not let my 13 month join as despite having the core vaccines, she does not have LEPTO 4 vaccine – my vet is perfectly happy with this. My last girl died 9 days after this vaccine so I was no…t letting my new girl have it. Dog School have refused us join advanced classes because she has not had LEPTO 4. Really upset 🙁 When my dog started puppy classes else where, they were perfectly happy that she hadn’t had this particular vaccine. See More
Our four year old german shepherd was very dominant towards other dogs due, mostly, to some bad experiences at the dog park. With Bryan’s training, (for us and her), we can hike and she can be around …other dogs again. He also taught us how to get her used to horses, goats, cats etc. She is now in Cascadia Canine doggie day care and doing great. Bryan is an excellent trainer that we highly recommend. See More
We’ve only been to the South Street location…When I took Miles there for the first time, I first fell in love with the fact that it’s basically a huge open room, with a large window in the front. There was plenty comme ouvrir une entreprise space and toys to keep my little guy busy for quite some time, as well as super sweet doggie friends for him to play with for hours and hours!
I married my college sweetheart in 2013 and we have since collected a couple cats, a dog, and two horses on our small farm. I continued my animal-based education at The University of Tennessee and earned an Animal Science degree in 2015. In the spring of 2017, I fostered and finish-trained a service dog for a disabled veteran as a volunteer. Shortly after, our roommate adopted a large German Shepherd who had no manners, but a sweet personality. With me being occupied because of the service dog training, my roommate contacted Sit Means Sit for help in dealing with her big guy. Jimmy Archuleta came out to the house to do a demonstration. We signed up and throughout the process I was continually impressed with how quickly and efficiently the training progressed. I have had a blast with the program and look forward to helping many others with their pups!

RD has been amazing to work with! She really knows how both the owner and animal need to interact, and we are so pleased with the guidance we have received from her. She will not only come to your hom…e so that your pup is in his/her surroundings, but will take time to show you how to train common commands and break bad habits. She is up front with the information, answers any questions you have, and has patience. She is well deserving of 5 stars See More
Labs become very attached to their human family. They love nothing more than spending time with their family – exploring, swimming, hiking or retrieving a ball. For this reason some Labs can experience separation anxiety and may become destructive if left alone and bored for long periods.
We probably need to look back to England for solutions. They still have the same field trials they had 80 years ago, still selectively breed for major traits and still get rid of dogs that lack a cooperative nature and predisposition toward trainability.
I. Love. Dog School. Our pup, Ponyboy, has been with Dog School for almost a year, beginning at the Pine Street location and now at this location. And there is no doubt that Dog School’s services, and general awesomeness, have immeasurably enhanced our family’s life.

I really liked that on the first day they have you come early so that your dog can get used to the space and people in a one on one setting, rather than being overwhelmed by entering a space that is already full of dogs. They also gave us a call midday to tell us how Abbey was doing, which was very reassuring. The instagram updates are also a huge bonus for dog parents.
Group Classes, Private Lessons, and In-Kennel Training II: In this course students will be instructed in both group and private lesson instruction, and in-kennel training techniques. Students will learn:
Training your Labrador to walk nicely on a leash isn’t the easiest thing to do but it’s one of the most beneficial, making walks so much easier and far more enjoyable. The following articles give guidance on how you can achieve this:
Hii i have a labra he’s just 40 days old. I am absolutely clueless about raising him.since i have searched everywhere but all i found was related to 8 weekss or more…. He’s great but since he was taken away very early so i just wanna know how to help him out.
Yes, private dog training service is widely available. Most trainers will offer a choice of private sessions or group classes. And many dog trainers offer an option of in-home training sessions as a more expensive alternative to training at a dog park or training facility.
We got help with walking behavior with our Brittany, who was a serious force to be reckoned with on a leash! RD has patience and a wealth of tips and info to help us communicate to him what we want ou…t of him, and it’s almost magical to watch him respond and fall in line with the new expectations, like he wanted them all along. We just didn’t know how to tell him. Would recommend In Home Dog Training to anyone who wants to see what their dog is really capable of! See More
The cost of dog obedience training varies; group classes are less expensive than private sessions with professional trainers. Pet owners should ask about what kinds of services are included in the cost before spending money.
You can also do more research online and through your city’s dog training club. “Clubs are great because they have lots of instructors, making it a good way to identify the best one for your family,” Reid says.
