I work with RD in an animal rescue group, One Tail At A Time PDX. She took in my foster pup who was having some issues, just out of a hoarding situation. She was suppose to meet a potential adopter in a couple days and was have a hard time with initial dog meetings and being in her crate. After RD had her for only 2 DAYS, she was like a different dog. The change was incredible. Her stress in those situations was gone. She interacted with her potential dog sibling perfectly. I believe that those days with RD set her up for a huge success. That family took her in on the spot and have since finalized her adoption. RD gave such great little tips that you don’t even realize could be affecting the pup in such a dramatic way. I was so impressed and am so grateful she is involved in the same organization as me. Rescue dogs AND more importantly rescue adopters will absolutely benefit from her assistance! She sets everyone up for success.
Does the instructor seem to really like dogs, people, and teaching? Does she reward her students with praise and encourage them to do the same with their http://rentabilisermapassion.org/french/des-astuces-pour-developper-votre-activite-a-linternational-facile-daffaires-en-ligne-rentable-pour-commencer/ The last thing you and your dog need is someone who doesn’t enjoy teaching you.

4. Quiet Space..there is a lounge area that is separate from the large area for dogs to just chill out. I was happy about that because my Bulldog does not know his limits sometimes when he’s romping with the younger ladies. It made me feel more comfortable knowing that if he got too crazy, there was a place for him to catch his breath.
This can help keep your dog safe when his curiosity gets the better of him, like if he smells something intriguing but possibly dangerous on the ground! The goal is to teach your pup that he gets something even better for ignoring the other item.
Towards the end of the series, there was to be a ‘Grand Final Best in Show Spectacular’ where they were to perform in front of a live audience. The most popular couple who was not eliminated would have won the ‘Best in Series’. Bootsie scored a perfect score from all three judges; sadly, no such thing happened. After only three episodes, Network Ten placed the show in ‘hiatus’, and it ended up never returning.
i have a 45 days old lab puppy, got him home last week. he is quite active and i am worried about his diet , he has lost about 300gms within a week. he eats only once a day and sometimes twice. i give him the same kibbles the breeder gave him . what can i do to improve his diet?
I enjoy reading your articles, but can you help with our 4yr old lab gun dog, a rescue dog, that is scarred of barking dogs. She will mix with & play with quiet dogs, but runs away when she hears a dog bark. Any ideas of how to stop this?
The author, Deborah Heiligman, has written a fun book. Tinka is the dog in this book, and believe me, Tinka does everything. Tinka is good, Tinka is bad, Tinka is fun, Tinka is sad, Tinka runs, Tinka suns, Tinka is cool, and Tinka goes to school. When you read this book, you will discover exactly what Tinka does, and believe me, Tinka does everything.
I brought my Std Poodle in for grooming and was pleasantly surprised. I normally groom him myself. I had found someone else who did a decent job grooming him (a step up better then me, I’m not a groo…mer I’m a hairstylist lol), she ended up leaving the shop as well as the next one and so on. I’ve paid out a whole bunch of $$ to have him groomed and was mostly disappointed in the end result, just sloppy work no attention to details or requests from me.
Join Tinka, a dandy, sandy Golden Retriever, as she unexpectedly visits her owner at school and helps his class learn to read. Bright illustrations rendered in acrylic paint add to the excitement in this playful back-to-school story about a boy and his “loves-to-hear-a-book” dog.
We would like to thank Morgan for the fun walks and great training she’s had with Archer. Her hard work has helped us raise a more obedient and sociable dog. We especially appreciate her notes. We look forward to those updates—they helps us keep track of progress in his training and know what we should work on at home.
React consistently to bites. Every time your puppy bites, say “NO!” in a firm voice. Then just walk away and ignore the puppy. Social isolation and time outs can be an effective form of punishment for a pack animal. You can also yelp when your puppy bites too hard. It might seem silly but puppies in a litter will cry out if a sibling accidentally bites too hard. Yelping when your puppy lays teeth on your will give feedback to very young puppies about what is acceptable playing and what isn’t.

My family is considering getting either one or two Labrador puppies in the near future while our older lab (Lucky, 13 years of age and healthy) is still around. She is well trained; knows basic commands like sit, stay, come, leave it, crate, etc. Her best aspects training wise is that she does not need to be leashed when taken for walks (we mainly go through the woods away from cars), she is excellent at communicating with minimum vocals that she needs to go outside and relieve herself or is thirsty(by nudging or staring towards the door/ sink). We were hoping that Lucky would be able to assist in the training process and kind of show them the ropes. Do you think that there would be some level of indirect learning passed on from my older dog to the puppies?
They will be eager to please, can learn a surprising amount, it’s fun for both of you and it’s quality time spent together that works to build the love and trust your puppy has for you, building a strong relationship.
Dog trainers may be employed by large pet stores or dog training academies, or they may work independently. If you volunteer at an animal shelter or apprentice with an experienced trainer, you may be able to find job leads through the contacts you make in these positions. If you want to work independently, you will need to advertise your services and network with the animal care community in your area, including shelters and veterinarians.

“Rachel was very patient in explaining techniques. I was amazed to see my 3 year old Lab finally walk with a loose leash. I have wanted to have my dog walk without a prong collar. The voice command Rachel taught me worked. I have already recommended Rachel – my trainer put me at ease when I was anxious about this new experience!”
We’ve only been to the South Street location…When I took Miles there for the first time, I first fell in love with the fact that it’s basically a huge open room, with a large window in the front. There was plenty of space and toys to keep my little guy busy for quite some time, as well as super sweet doggie friends for him to play with for hours and hours!

I have an Australian kelpie who is a very focused herding dog – terrible on a leash, reactive, obsessive and really bad the car. Before meeting RD I had hired two other trainers to work with him and they were both a waste of money – one even told me good luck and that there was nothing he could do to help my dog! During the first session with RD she had him walking on a leash without pulling and riding in a car without freaking out. I was in shock! I thought for sure when I walked him the next day he would revert to his old habitats but it has been two weeks and he is still doing great on leash and major improvement in the car! The second session we worked on leash reactivity and his obsessive behavior in the yard – these are going to take a little longer to work through but I have already seen improvements. RD showed me techniques to use so I feel like I finally have the tools to correct his behavior. She also gave me some pointers for my other dog. I highly recommend working with RD, I wish I had met her years ago! My dog is going to have a much better life after working with RD – I may actually be able to take him hiking this summer!

Yes, private dog training service is widely available. Most trainers will offer a choice of private sessions or group classes. And many dog trainers offer an option of in-home training sessions as a more expensive alternative to training at a dog park or training facility.

Once a puppy has had an accident on the floor you need to remove all trace of it. And this is difficult bearing in mind your puppy’s extraordinary sense of smell so you will need to be thorough and diligent in this.

I have a 3 month old Black lab. When we try to put a leash on him he just wants to bite it, and hold it in his mouth. Is he too young for leash training? We have a couple of acres and he has not been on a leash before. Any tips?
RD has been amazing to work with! She really knows how both the owner and animal need to interact, and we are so pleased with the guidance we have received from her. She will not only come to your hom…e so that your pup is in his/her surroundings, but will take time to show you how to train common commands and break bad habits. She is up front with the information, answers any questions you have, and has patience. She is well deserving of 5 stars See More
As with many of the fast growing larger breeds the Labrador Retriever can be susceptible to hip and elbow dysplasia. Ensure that the parents of your labrador puppy have gained hip and elbow clearances.
