Teach children not to shriek, run or flap their hands because this will engage the puppy’s natural prey instincts and add to the problem. Children should remain calm and keep their hands closed and close to their bodies.

Hi! We have a Labrador puppy which we got it recently and he will be going 8 weeks this coming April 20, 2015. We have a problem about his biting habit. Can you please help us on what to do to this kind of habit because it’s somewhat disturbing to all of us at home. From the pants we wear, long skirts, and even to our legs, he likes to bite. We have already bought him a toy and bone chew for him to bite instead of other things, but still he kept on biting. Thank you very much in advance for helping.

At the end of class we will again ask that you keep your distance from other owners and dogs. We will guide you out of the class one at a time, please remember to keep your distance from the other students as you are leaving the building and returning to your cars.

Even small breed puppies can cause damage. Do not ignore puppy biting when you have a small breed dog by thinking that it does not matter because they are small. Large or small, this behavior needs to be stopped early on. This will prevent even more serious biting later on.

We are still digging out here, as I’m sure are many of you, so we’re calling today, Sat. Feb. 10, a SNOW DAY, with all dog training classes and appointments cancelled for the day! Please contact me to make those arrangements and please let me know when you re…ceive http://rentabilisermapassion.org/anik-singal-facebook-academie-commencer-et-diriger-une-entreprise-de-consultation-rentable/ post!

Moreover, Labradors are generally obedient dogs. So, it is imperative that you make use of such good characteristic in a pleasant way. Although Labradors may want to please you always, they can become aggressive when you do not set out proper training and approach.

“It’s important to remember that puppies are like little kids. And like little kids, they’re uncoordinated, easily distracted, and gentle,” says Steven Applebaum,  president and director of Animal Behavioral College, a school in Northridge, Calif., that trains dog trainers via the Web and externships at shelters throughout the U.S.

They often make a good job of teaching the skill at home and then are very upset when the dog’s obedience falls apart in public.  What they are essentially doing is attempting the ‘challenge’  method,  but usually without any effective form of punishment.

Once your dog begins to recognize you as the leader, it is important to let him know what kind of behavior is expected of him. So, pat your pup whenever he does something good and ignore his tantrums. Praise your Lab whenever he obeys your commands and executes them well, or does something to make you happy. This will encourage him and in the long run, he will be more devoted to you. Also, when your dog makes mistakes, you should be patient. Punishing him will take you nowhere and will only result in your Lab turning aggressive.

Our standards and practices are taken from different facilities and training academies across the country.  Those of which we’ve been able to work at and learn from, throughout the last 7 years.  Our philosophy is quite unique, as it is a collection all it’s own and a “library” that we use everyday.  With our extensive background in hands on training and professional study, we are not limited to one way of thinking or teaching.  Applied, are the methods and structured activities in a dog’s life that will benefit them most.

When duck hunting, wait until you have several ducks on the water before you send your pup to retrieve. Unless wind or current is carrying off the ducks, it won’t hurt them to float for a half hour. If you are shooting doves, pick up the short, easy ones yourself. Let your pup sit for 10-15 minutes before he is sent for the difficult retrieves. The exception, of course, is the crippled bird, for which you must send the pup quickly to reduce the odds of escape.

Are the facilities adequate? Is there enough room to accommodate the class safely and comfortably? Is the place reasonably clean? Is the footing good so that you and your dog won’t slip? Is the outdoor potty area reasonably clean?

This place is great. We brought our puppy in last week since I was going away for a conference, and he absolutely loved it. He couldn’t wait to go back on Wednesday. And he came back to us so tired and happy! We are fortunate that our pup loves other dogs and people, but even so, a lot of credit is due to Dog School. They keep safe clean conditions for the dogs and constantly supervise.Their hours and locations are really convenient for us. We feel confident in their team and will gladly return!

What if we lived in a country where it was acceptable to allow our human children to do whatever they wanted with their time? What if they weren’t put into structured learning environments like school or sports? No one gave them any direction. They had no rules, no boundaries, and no limitations. How well do you think those children would do at becoming productive citizens? Would they all be “bad” kids? Of course not! They would be the product of their environment.

You haven’t just taught Gulliver, you have taught us as well. Thanks to Mat and the PRO K-9 team, we’ve learned the right and wrong way to handle different situations that have really made a difference. We are eager to continue his service dog training. Thank you so much for all the time and effort you’ve devoted to us!

Just read all you can, learn all you can and get going! Start with simple sit, down and stay training, add duration, distance and distractions, progress slowly from there with any new tricks you’d like to add. Have a read of the articles in the training section (linked to in the menu at top of the page) and also check out some other sites. Youtube can also be a great resource, try searching for ‘Kikopup’ on there, she has a wealth of great video tutorials you could learn from.

Mike was patient, knowledgeable and kind with our two giant, ill-behaved dogs. We just had a baby and he worked with us on many things such as not rushing the door when someone rings the doorbell, avoiding baby toys, and coming when called. He is a lifesaver!Melinda G.January 10 2018

Help your puppy socialize as much as possible. Let your puppy meet other dogs and lots of people in a positive environment. Introduce him to all sorts of new experiences while he is still very young.[10] Enroll the puppy obedience training classes early on and reinforce his place within the family structure.

It’s that extra-credit project that finally allows Matt to show the type of things he’s good at, such as dog sledding. Moreover, it’s that extra-credit project that shows Matt there are friends out in the world to be made outside of school, and successfully doing what one loves is what creates confidence and happiness. This children’s book is a wonderful read that quietly teaches life lessons, as well as educates young readers about the many fascinating facets of dog sledding.

I give my advice about taking puppy to the vet toward the end of the article, section 13 in the clickable table of contents. Basically, you ‘could’ take your puppy to the vet on the way home, but it’s best not to. (S)he will already be quite stressed and overwhelmed with everything going on without adding a visit to the vet to it. Also, the first examination will be more accurate when your puppy’s had some days to settle in and you’ve gathered some info to answer the vest questions after watching your puppy a few days. So I would wait if you can.

My method of training Labrador Retrievers includes teaching specific words in specific ways so that your dog not only learns the words but also develops the respectful attitude that makes him happy to obey you. Teach your dog words and he will understand what you say. Teach those words in the right ways and he will actually DO what you say. [read more]

But people, just like dogs, can be unpredictable. And sometimes the bravest thing a person can do is admit they need help. Like Terry Lynn Johnson’s popular Ice Dogs, Sled Dog School is about overcoming adversity, finding your strengths, and your friends, and following your passions.

Creating an environment for success is a key component for any training. Having a trainer in your home ensures the training really fits your dog’s personality as well as your goals. This is especially important with larger families, more difficult dogs or people with special training goals (agility, therapy dog, off-leash obedience).

Another option is to have a certified team of handler and dog, work with the school professional and the student(s).  In this model, the dog and handler typically come to the school as volunteers to work with a specific student under the guidance of a school professional.  After that session they leave the building. The dog and handler may work at several sites in a typical week of volunteering.  I have added this model to my school counseling program for the 2017-2018 school year.   I have several requests for animal-assisted interventions but am limited by Copper’s schedule.   BF Kitchen is very fortunate to have therapy dog team Christine (handler) and Leila (golden retriever) visit our school each week.

Yes, private dog training service is widely available. Most trainers will offer a choice of private sessions or group classes. And many dog trainers offer an option of in-home training sessions as a more expensive alternative to training at a dog park or training facility.

The Bark Busters worldwide home dog training support guarantee is unique in the industry. It is designed to help owners resolve their dog’s behavior and obedience problems and to provide customers with the satisfaction of ongoing support and peace of mind from their Bark Busters trainer.

I cannot say enough great things about Dog School. My husband and I have very hectic schedules and a very energetic dog so this place is a lifesaver. Before dog school, we didn’t think that our dog Abbey was capable of being tired out-even after multiple long trips to the dog park. We could not have been more wrong-Abbey is all smiles and can hardly stay awake when we get her home.
