Our Beginner Class is for dogs six months and older. Students learn how to become benevolent leaders of the “pack” and to teach their dogs exercises that will help them to become well-mannered family pets. Beginner Class exercises include: attention, controlled walking in heel position, automatic sit, circle right, circle left, about turn, fast pace, slow pace, fast recalls using a recall chute, walking among a crowd, sit, down, stand, sit-stay, down-stay, stand for examination and an introduction to tricks. A Training Handbook is issued to each student.
The Labrador Retriever is one of the oldest recognized dog breeds. Over the years they have also been known as the Lesser Newfoundland, St. Johns Dog and The Black Water Dog – these days they are simply called a Lab.
I know nothing of what training you do with him, how much, how often, how you go about it and so on. But obviously you’re not happy with the results you’re getting. The thing is, most labs can be trained ‘by the book’, by which I mean the common or garden methods that you read in books, or websites (like this one.) But not all dogs are the same and some dogs don’t respond as well as others. Also (and please, please don’t take offense as this is not meant that way) it may be that you aren’t using techniques, body language, signals, tone of voice and so on that he can understand or wants to respond to.
Because we are a working training facility, the number of dogs coming in from Europe on a monthly basis provides you with an opportunity to see a vast number of dogs, with different strengths and weaknesses. The strengths need amplification, and the weaknesses need training. Varying temperaments, from hard to softer dogs, highly driven and motivated, you learn to critique, classify, and prepare remediation plans many times and then implement the training on these dogs, before you go out on your own. Pet dog training occurs in the same way as the working dogs. Clients drop off dogs for training and do a comprehensive behavioral questionnaire which then is discussed with the students by the trainer so a proper plan of action can be devised. Each dog is started immediately on the Training System plan, training records are kept, and students instructed in both the theory and application of the Tarheel Canine Training System.

One of the most endearing qualities of Labrador Retrievers is that they remain very puppy-like long after they’ve reached adulthood. The downside is that their energy level and tendency to get into mischief continues well into adulthood as well. Therefore, it pays to have behavior management tools handy. Some management tools to keep in mind:
Learning to train and work with Police Dogs is some of the most exciting and interesting work in the industry. Our 12-week Police K9 Trainer Course is available to both civilian and law enforcement / military students. Our Police K9 Trainer Program is offered during each of our semesters and is VA approved.
Picture this: You are excited about bringing home a new Labrador puppy. You set his bed and place him something delicious to grub on. After that, you cuddle him, tickle his furry tummy and let him run loose around the house. But, wait. What happens then after you let him loose?
Like anything, pups learn faster when things are fun. Be sure to keep the tone of the training session happy and fun. http://rentabilisermapassion.org/french/comment-vous-developpez-votre-entreprise-pourquoi-une-entreprise-a-besoin-de-grandir/ your tone of voice and general energy levels to motivate the pup and encourage him along.
Methods of training: Positive Reinforcement, Negative Reinforcement, Negative Punishment and Negative Punishment these technical terms refer to different methods of training. Most dog trainers don’t truly understand these terms and or the methods that are attached to each. Our Dog Training Instructors are required to be versed in all methods of training. Each and every dog is an individual. Attempting to use the same methods for all dogs is akin to using diesel fuel in every motor – that will not work. Matching the method of training to your dog is the single most important decision that must be made both on the onset of training and throughout the entire training process. We are able to assign the correct methods to your dog each time we work with them, this makes training more effective while reducing the amount of work required to accomplish your goals.
By sticking to your training, being consistent and sticking to routines…and that’s key…he will eventually come out of growing pains and adolescence into an adult dog with ingrained training and learning that he will settle into and hopefully be a well mannered, well-behaved joy for you to marvel at and enjoy for the best part or more of another decade.
Once he’s got it, place the less tasty treat on the floor… but don’t completely cover it with your hand. Instead hold it a little bit above the treat. Over time, gradually move your hand farther and farther away until your hand is about 6 inches above.
